One of the most remarkable things about Trump’s Presidency is how he let establishment Republicans completely talk him out of one of the most powerful parts of his 2016 message – his economic populism. He was speaking Republican heresy in the primaries – he was going to expand entitlement programs, pump trillions of dollars into infrastructure spending, ensure health care coverage for every American. It separated him from the Republican pack and helped him with working Americans who felt that finally here was a Republican who was going to help them even if it meant spending some money.
Sure, a lot of it was pipe dreams but he could have pursued some smaller-bore initiatives to show that he was fighting to address the economic insecurities of Americans. Instead, he turned control of his economic agenda over to extremists fiscal conservatives like Russ Vought and Grover Norquist.
Likewise, on the stimulus checks, his instincts are right. But he never pressed it because Senate Republicans didn’t want to vote for a bill that cost more than $1 billion. If, before the election, Trump had simply said, “Fuck you, Mitch,” cut a deal with Nancy Pelosi that sent $1,200 checks to every American, and dared Senate Republicans to vote against it, he may well be genuinely preparing for his second term rather than planning for a Potemkin White House in Mar-a-Lago.
This is Grand Master level takedown shit going on in this decision yo. He’s gonna award all the attorneys’ fees… ALL of them. This is gonna cost the AZ GOP some money. And maybe some lawyers their licenses.
This guy is so full of shit. But he sounds like he believes what he’s saying, delusional as it is, and that’s enough for 70 million followers to be convinced. Deprogramming former cult members is going to take some time.
I don’t see it this way. Donnie doesn’t give a fuck about being or staying on the Republicans’ good side. And he doesn’t care about giving Nancy and the Dems a win. He has millions of fans who would do anything for him. Nothing else matters. Nothing else exists.
My take is that trump has just lobbed the ball into Mitch’s court. And the ball (if you’ll excuse the mixed sports metaphor) is that trick splat ball that the Harlem Globetrotters use. It landed like a pile of right in front of Mitch. Now he has to use the pooper scooper to deal with it, and Mitch does care about Republican good will and never wants Nancy to win anything ever.
Same. He and his followers always talk about how he’s the great negotiator, and always fighting for them. This should feed them for months. It also helps reinforce for them that Mitch was in on the election fraud, and was never on their side (unless they live in Kentucky, of course).
He also said he could work across the aisle very well, especially with Chuck and Nancy. The “dealmaker.” Of course, it’s all a sham, but a lot people would have liked that.
I don’t think so. I think he appended “and the next administration may be ME” strictly to keep alive the fiction that he still has a prayer. He’ll never give that up because that would cut into his revenue stream.
He is a strange man indeed. I saw part of a 38 minute video from a couple days ago in which he continues the rant about voter fraud. He seemed earnest in his belief. Or at least as earnest as Hitler was when he proclaimed Germans as the master race. He may ultimately be a coward, but as long as he has access to the nuclear codes he is potentially very dangerous.
I just read through the ruling and those were the actual sections to explain the ruling. I think everyone, especially judges, are getting tired of having to explain why elections are final and you can’t change them with no evidence, especially-doubly so way too late.
I laughed that those terms were used. “Way too late”
Whelp, Trump just vetoed the defense authorization bill. I guess we’ll see how much swing he still has with Congressional Republicans on the motion to override.
So in Trumpworld the Confederates, the ones trying to break up the United States, were fighting for the nation’s founding principles? I can’t say I’m surprised, but still… bleccch.
