In one of the judicial smackdowns of Trump’s clowns an (sic) was added to highlight that idiocy.
It would be fascinating if, yesterday and today, Congress certified that Joe Biden would become President…then certified he would NOT become the NEXT President — rather, that Mike Pence would be number 46 (for two weeks), THEN Biden would be number 47.
I seriously think there’s about a 1 in 4 chance this could actually happen, either via Article 25 (takes about a day and a half if done as fast as possible), or impeachment and removal (half a day if done as fast as possible). Resigning would take thirty seconds, but Trump would never do that.
I assume you mean the 25th Amendment? For anyone who’s interested, a legal scholar who wrote a book about Section 4 of the 25th amendment has a handy flowchart that explains how it works:
It’s worth noting that, under this system, any removal of Trump under Section 4 could effectively be permanent, even if Trump contests the removal, because if the VP and a majority of the cabinet votes that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, he is removed immediately, and congress can deliberate for up to 21 days about the issue, during which time the VP serves as Acting President. We’re only 13 days from inauguration.
Including the enablers who continued the charade of voter fraud after being attacked by a raging mob stirred up by Dear Leader.
Sure, but there’s nothing they could do to change anything. Basically, if Pelosi and McConnell wanted to, they could just prevent the issue from coming to a vote before inauguration day and run out the clock, leaving Pence as Acting President until noon on January 20.
These are the senators who voted against certifying some Electoral College results
These are the senators who voted to object to some of the results of the election (and the states they objected to):
- Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
- Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
- Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
- Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
- Mississippi Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (Arizona, Pennsylvania)
- Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy (Arizona)
- Florida Sen. Rick Scott (Pennsylvania)
- Wyoming Sen. Cynthia Lummis (Pennsylvania)
The House ultimately voted to reject an objection to throw out Pennsylvania’s Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden, but over half of the House Republicans backed the effort. The challenge failed by a vote of 282-138.
The GOP House minority leader, Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California, and his deputy, Steve Scalise, were among those seeking to overturn the results.
…
How are these clowns allowed to object to the votes from another state?
(Rhetorical) What happened to the GOP and their championing of States’ Rights?
Merely in the interest of fighting ignorance, I’ll note that Sen. Ron Johnson (of my state of Wisconsin) changed his mind at the last minute, and voted to uphold the electoral college results.
This absolves him of nothing. He has as much blood on his hands as Hawley or the other criminal traitors.
I live in Tennessee. I believe Tennessee was the only state that had both senators say that they would contest the votes. And it turns out that both of them didn’t.
I don’t think they will remove him, but I hope they find a way to SHUT HIM UP for the next 13 days. Take away his phone or other device.
First off, I don’t support their decision to object - it’s based on total garbage.
But why shouldn’t they be allowed to vote one way or another on an issue on the floor? If they can’t object, what’s the point of having a vote in the first place. If the entire PA Senate and House delegation conspired with their state legislature to submit fraudulent EC votes, I’d sure as hell want my Senators to object to their inclusion. Wouldn’t you?
He should be sedated on the medical advice of his doctor, and kept in a quite room for the next two weeks.
I say he HAS been sedated. Otherwise, where is he? Surely the folks at FOX have tried to get in touch for a comment now that his tweets have been silenced. Where is he?
Kind of buried in all the chaos is that in the wee hours of the morning Trump said there would be peaceful transition now.
Clearly, people in his inner circle are telling him they’re done with him, and I suspect at least one cabinet level peon straight up threatened him with the 25th Amendment.
Yes, I think they can tell him, “Do you want to be removed? No? Then shut up and you can stay in for a few more days.”
He should be taken to Walter reed for a 72 hour mental health check. During that time they can get the 25th going and run out the clock until jan 20.
It’s believed that was from Dan Scavino, one of DumpsterFire’s actual lawyers.
A tweet from an aide’s account, saying this. Which apparently Trump “reluctantly agreed to”, according to CNN sources, only after multiple resignations (with promise of more to come), and only after being told that Republicans were seriously discussing which would be better - removal via the 25th or removal via impeachment.
Every time Trump has been reluctantly convinced by his aides to make some sort of conciliatory statement – such as after Charlottesville – he’s set fire to the sentiment expressed as soon as he gets the next opportunity to open his mouth. Once (if?) he gets his Twitter back he’ll be right back to “stop the steal” conspiracy delusions.
Our beloved, overworked, underpaid SDMB moderators should be hired by Twitter and Facebook to help them detect and remove Trump sock accounts.
