Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

I saw that as well; that there are people who are threatening to resign. My question for them is “what are you waiting for?” Trump can not be threatened and will not change his behavior. What he has done can not be excused. Resign now. Or, if you feel that leaving would give Trump free reign to be even worse, stop obeying Trump until he fires you.

I would add that Mitch sees the nation’s voting patterns shifting inexorably leftward in the decades to come and is terrified of setting terrible precedents that a Democratic Congress and White House could use against a minority GOP in the future. The Supreme Court shenanigans were the Turtle’s last stand at conservative obstructionism; Republicans have a numbers problem going forward and every Republican leader knows this.

They are the ones that are custom fit for “bone spurs”.

What I heard on NPR a little while ago (from a correspondent) was they shouldn’t resign, because then they can’t invoke the 25th amendment. They need to stay in their jobs and DO their jobs-- get DJT out of office. If they resign they’re just cowardly rats leaving a sinking ship.

I don’t think they’ll do it. I think the whole country needs to hold its breath and wait for Jan 20.

Sure, I can see that. What I’ve been hearing is that Trump’s weaselly statement promising an orderly transition of power was done to mollify people (don’t know if they were cabinet level or not) who were threatening to resign. That’s what I object to. The time has come to stand up to Trump (as the NPR correspondent suggests) or to leave him. The time to bargain with him is over.

I just read they closed his twitter account for the duration!

(Nope, it was his Facebook! Maybe twitter will follow suit!)

Hope not - if he tweets a couple more tirades, it may inspire Congress/Cabinet to get off their asses and remove the SOB.

Senator Schumer calls for trump to be removed by means of 25th Amendment.

The same thing that happened to their championing limited government (large governments are okay so long as they’re aimed at somebody they don’t like) and government handouts (okay so long as they’re to corporations, not real people).

While I suspect the misspelling of “rein” was a typo rather than a deliberate pun, it does work rather well in this context.

Yeah I saw that. Do you believe it?

The guy who resigned was Mick Mulvaney, President Trump’s former chief of staff, who resigned as special U.S. envoy to Northern Ireland. Who isnt authorized to do anything about the 25th.

I bet that statement was made against Trump’s wishes.

I don’t know if we’ll ever get to hear from Trump again, but I know what’s happening inside his deranged malignant narcissist brain.
He’s reconstructing the narrative. It always takes him a day or three after a big shift. It takes him time to reposition former friends as enemies, and to position new enemies.

In a few days, he’ll be renewed and full of vigor, ready to take on the rigged election and the new enemies of the people, those traitors in Congress. I’m sure, if he has a platform, that he would call on his supporters to stop the inauguration by any means necessary.

The open question is if anyone will give him an audience? Facebook and Twitter have wised up. Will Tucker and Hannity put him on to push for government overthrow? What about Lou Dobbs and Maria over at FBN?

It like after the election, when he seemed defeated and some people actually thought he would accept his loss. But I saw those moments as places where Trump’s new reality hadn’t been fully constructed, and I knew that he’d dig in harder than ever, and I knew he’d never admit his loss.

And I’m still holding to my position that he would never exit the White House voluntarily. I think that may not sound as crazy as everyone but me thought it sounded 2 months ago.

I guess that’s now the only option for Trump to be removed from power early, since the lazy, cowardly fucks of both the House and the Senate have left town without any action on impeachment. And unless their presence back in D.C. is required by the 25th Amendment (not bloomin’ likely), they won’t be back until the 20th.

ETA: That Schumer wants the 25th Amendment rather than impeachment is just another of those “we’d like X to happen, but we want someone else to make it happen” moments that the Dems so often seem to find themselves in.

Well, the Secret Service having to propel him out the door on the morning of the 20th is one of those things I’d love to see, but would have hardly dared hope for. But maybe, just maybe…

I posted this on Nov 8th and I think it’s aged pretty well.

It was that or the 25th amendment, so he did that. They also wanted him to demand arrests of the rioters and agree to stop challenging the election. Best they could get was “smooth transition”.

I am seriously starting to think he will attempt to barricade himself in the WH residence on January 20. Like everything else, he will make a hash of it. Once the Secret Service easily push their way past the overturned TV trays and piles of McDonalds wrappers he’s assembled into a makeshift barricade, they’ll gently lift him from the pillow fort he’s hiding in and place him just outside the guard gate on Independence Avenue. Ranting and raving, he’ll be mistaken for a homeless person and taken to the DC General mental health ward. And one day we’ll ask ourselves, “What ever happened to that Donald Trump?”

And others will ask, “Who cares?”
