Even as he becomes background noise he will help maintain a deep schism in the Republican party that will last as long as he does. It wont make much difference in strong Blue or Red areas, but in “Purple” areas that schism can make the difference between a GOP win and a Dem win. That old adage “Democrats fall in love. Republicans fall in line” is about to be pressure-tested.
IMHO if the GOP was smart about this, they would take Pelosi’s impeachment as an opportunity to put Trump in the rear-view and bury his “movement” ASAP. Otherwise they may be spending the next couple of election cycles wandering in the wilderness.
You people know that isn’t going to happen, right? They will regroup and that will be that. Democrats are always their own worst enemy in that they are unable to work as a cohesive mass to get anything done. We will lose seats at the midterm, losing control of the Senate at least. No way in the world can the Democrats keep it together long enough to actually increase their hold, even though 2022 would be the year to do it.
Indeed. I feel I’ve been hearing some variant of “Republicans are one election cycle away from becoming irrelevant” for probably close to two decades now, and I don’t feel it’s any closer to being true now as it was then.
“Vice President Mike Pence has called his soon-to-be successor Kamala Harris to offer his congratulations, according to two people familiar with the conversation. It’s the first known contact between the elected members of the outgoing and incoming administrations. President Donald Trump has not reached out to President-elect Joe Biden and has repeatedly questioned the legitimacy of Biden’s win.”
Five days before the inauguration. Fuck You, Pence, you piece of shit.
My fervent wish for 2024 – and any election cycle thereafter – is just that I never have to see or hear from the Orange Fuck ever again. I’m in favor of anything that helps achieve that, including a Pence run. Once the Orange Fuck is out of the picture, we can talk about the least evil options for (R) candidates. Pence would certainly be among the least desirable and potentially most destructive. But politically sidelining the Orange Fuck and any member of his family has to be the #1 priority.
Honestly, they don’t even like Pence in Indiana where he used to be the governor. The only reason anyone knows Pence’s homophobic name is because Trump chose him as VP. Let Pence try a nationwide run. As I mentioned, they don’t even like him in Indiana.
I remember Pence gaining his 15 minutes of fame by pushing through one of those RFRA bills that protected Indiana bakeries from gay marriage. He posed with some people that were more odious than the usual religious right suspects and it drew national attention.
The thing I remember most was that some pizza joint in Indiana got really vocal about not wanting to be forced to make pizzas for gay weddings and crowdfunded almost a million bucks. That’s some real grassroots grift right there.
I can get behind this. Pence has his faults, but has shown in the past few days that he could be Presidential, unlike the CFSG (or should that be Orange-utang?). He’s not perfect, but he will likely attempt a run, based on the fact that he didn’t listen to the CFSG when he was ordered to overturn the results of a valid election. No, he couldn’t, in spite of what the CFSG said, and he stuck to tradition. This will resonate with RINOs, not Trumpists.
I have a feeling that Trump will mount a 2024 campaign, but not as a Republican. He’ll hold rallies, and have his press office get messages out there in response to Biden initiatives, and so on; but he will ultimately run as an independent, since real Republicans have had enough of this jackass. Trumpists will get on board immediately, but regular Republicans won’t, and Trump will end up like Ross Perot and John Anderson: not in office.
I doubt he’ll run again, this ending will sting for a long time, he won’t want to risk another serving I suspect.
But he’s got big plans for Ivanka, and she’s got her eyes on a political career. She reckons her resume is now golden, part of the West Wing inner circle for four years, security clearance, experience on the international stage, deep pockets, etc, etc.
He WILL be able to rally conservatives to install the FIRST female US president. They’ll all feel so up to date and modern, convinced they ARE forward thinkers, NOT regressive troglodytes.
She’s the threat, I suspect. She’s going to try and attend the inauguration so as to look like NOT a sore loser, with an eye to the future. She’s had a taste of it and she likes it, I think!
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump will leave Washington next Wednesday morning just before President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration to begin his post-presidential life in Florida.
Refusing to abide by tradition and participate in the ceremonial transfer of power, Trump will instead hold his own departure ceremony at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland before his final flight aboard Air Force One.
Officials are considering an elaborate send-off event reminiscent of the receptions he’s received during state visits abroad, complete with a red carpet, color guard, military band and even a 21-gun salute, according to a person familiar with the planning who spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of a formal announcement.
…
Good grief! Certainly NOT! What “officials” are these???
