The thing that struck me as ringing odd about that is that it says Trump is leaving the White House for the last time “as president,” implying that he could be invited back as a civilian.
Hmm… It also assumes that he won’t be reelected in 2024. Weird.
I saw three articles on Trump leaving. They all said the same thing. . . leaving as President. They all also mentioned that Trump said, “It’s not a long goodbye.”
I was wondering if anyone would question that Trump could still be back as President* if he got elected again. Isn’t it still possible IF he’s not convicted in the Senate? Or the States?
[*I’m choosing not to think about that right now]
On preview as I was writing this: yes they would.

I feel like that’s a pretty standard type of construction. At least, it doesn’t seem odd to me.
Yeah, like:
“And an era ends as Unca Cecil leaves the field for the last time as head coach of the Flying Dopers.” Sure he might get rehired at some point in the future, but that’s not really relevant to the point being made. It’s just signaling a momentous end.
It’s still possible if he’s convicted as well. Stripping his eligibility to run again is available to the Senate after convicting him, but it’s not automatic.
I doubt a Senate willing to vote by two-thirds to convict Trump couldn’t muster a majority to bar him from office. (I also doubt that the Senate will vote to convict, but that’s another thing.)
We’ve just entered the final hour.
Kamala Harris has been sworn in.
Now that Harris is VP and Trump is still President, can she invoke the 25th amendment?
FYI, we have a follow-along thread here:
Now Roberts is administering the oath. It is done now.
Still ten minutes till noon.
Our long national nightmare is over.
We said that before - on August 9, 1974 in particular.
In the annals of nightmares, Trump had Nixon beat by a mile. But he’s gone. Joe Biden is President.
President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr.
Has a nice ring to it.
Thanks. Somehow I’d missed that.
Have the QAnoners had a melt-down yet? Another date comes and goes without incident.
No. A cult does not crumble just because their central belief does not come true. They just effortlessly move the goalposts and keep on going.
True. Any number of cultists have proclaimed a date for the end of the world, then blithely set a new date when that one doesn’t come to pass.
