A further fix for the ‘Orange Sidewinder’ error has been implemented.
So they’ve been working on it. However…
There is even someone in that thread saying that they didn’t get the error until Hotfix 2.
On a side note, deleting my video settings (again) and launching the game, then setting my video settings back up seemed to resolve the Holo Me problem I was having. Maybe I’ll actually be able to play the game later today when I have more time.
I played a little on Saturday after one of the updates, no crashes but the frame rate driving around dropped really badly.
Not a great roll out. Too many untested features added or just under resourced infrastructure for the number of people playing?
Think I’ll give it a week before logging back in to odyssey, I blew through 10 million crashing a ship on landing and an interdiction that was way tougher than normal, although I may have had the wrong load out on my Krait ( size 3 shields instead of 5 as I needed some cargo in a size 5 bay)
After my latest game in RimWorld crashed, I played Odyssey a bit last night without any problems. Had fun running over scavengers occupying the agricultural base I had been sent to power up.
Hey, some of those Odyssey settlements have markets! Like other ports, the market can only be accessed from your cockpit and their stock seems to continually fluctuate but they can have great prices for source & return runs if what you need is in stock. Provided you don’t try to land while ownership of that settlement is actively disputed.
Have to take a look. I just started up again after the 4th big update.
I have just been doing passenger journeys in order to stock up the bank balance after too many ship crashes and rebuys.
I had a bad framerates drop for a while just flying , but only for a short while.
I managed to find a few of the upgraded space suits , so hopefully that will make foot stuff less deadly, so let’s see how this goes. .
There is a war on in the Azaladshu system with some community goals, and as I have been engineering my Alliance Challanger the good ship “Sandwich Maker” I have been getting some combat practice in. Even joined a couple of ad hoc teams. When you can hang up on a federal Corvette they go down fast. In the process I discovered another bit of classic FDev UI / UX design, the toggle for push to talk is not in audio settings but burried deep in a sub menu under options , and uses the 'mute ’ toggle button.
They just dropped update 6.
Lots of graphic updates and minor bug fixes but no significant gameplay addons as far as I can tell, it is all starting to look like a finished release. They fixed the deeply effing annoying auto launch bug.
I have been mostly taking pirate missions in my Challanger the good ship Sandwich Maker, I engineered the auto cannons and now need to engineer some shield upgrades , then I think it’s time to go back to the Beer Towel and Peanuts II Krait Phantom or the Oh No not again AspX and get my first elite rank as explorer but maybe need to stock up on materials for repairs/crafting heatsinks first.
Wondering how the player base is looking, I have launched a fee times accidentally into open space and have not seen any live players around [hollow squares or triangles]
EEEEEELEEEEEETTTTTTEEEE
I just took a 50 kly round trip to the top of the world and made 290 million in exploration, most of that was on the way out as I scanned everything new and mapped any water or elw worlds and any terraforming worlds in the system. Had a few first footfalls and did some exo biology for giggles.
I just honked and bounced on the way back (about 480 jumps each way)
Unfortunately I was scanned on the way into Ridley Scott dispite being silent running and the explorer I was taking cancelled a 50 million contract ( there had been a slight close encounter with a star and some damage earlier)
Anyway I now have 500 million burning a hole in my pocket so I may splurge on a sploraconda.
That’s genuinely impressive. I once–ONCE–flew to Colonia off the neutron highway in a ship engineered for the biggest jumps I could possibly manage. This was when you could just scan a whole system with one button, then fly up to planets of interest for a closer look.
So, ah, how did you do it? I’m not trying to be flippant, I swear, but I can not imagine summoning that level of patience. I think I had to break up my trip into four easily-managed chunks, and I remember thinking, “I am never doing this again.”
But then I have elite in combat and made most my money that way. I’m not throwing stones. I’m in a very pretty glass house.
Yeah it was a bit of a mix of fun and a grind. I started just after my last post about 2 1/2 weeks ago and on the way out I was playing in 2 hr chunks . My ships has about 54ly jump range.
I started by heading 1000ly normal to where I wanted to go to get out of any common routes. I had the route stars selected to KGBFOAM as I didn’t want to worry about refueling at a specific point as it’s easy for me to lose track.
I then basically jumped , hit the fss scanner honk and checked the main star , if it was an M I just jumped to next system as those are very unlikely to have any earth like worlds water worlds or candidates for terraforming .
If not an M I would zoom with the fss scanner on each planet, it is pretty quick and I just tune , zoom in and out and not wait to read the details because I was running EDD in the background. That has a nice page that shows you the system in a quick view and you can easily see what planest are what or worth investigating.
Anyway if there were ww or elw or teraformalble candidates in the system I’d flyout and scan with probes and maybe land if that’s an option for some of them. Do a bit of exo work or scooping materials then onwards.
The outward journey was fun and lots to do over about two weeks The way back I just wanted to cash out the credits , so that was 480 jumps at about a minute a jump . So 8 hrs of grinding over 3 days , jump honk jump. I read the dope on my phone or watched videos mostly whilst doing that, yeah not a lot of fun.
I’ve been playing again for the past few days, although not on my desktop. Turn these lines 90° and that’s what I’ve been seeing so I’ve been using my tablet instead. Works reasonably well, after offloading my user folders to a flash drive so Odyssey could install, but too laggy to make proper use of shock cannons. I haven’t tried walking around yet.
I’ve been back and currently running a mission to deliver 2800 tons of stuff as I am giving trading a go in my anaconda , the good ship ‘Miss the Ground’ which is loaded up with cargo , and guns because the interdictions add a couple of million bounties per trip.
We got my son a new high end laptop for college so I acquired his 1060 graphics card from his old desk top to replace my very very old 660 ti.
Elite looks so much more awesome now and runs much more smoothly.
Well trading selling stuff is going to take for ever, to get to elite, so I have rigged up the conda for core mining which is surprisingly amusing .
Gotta love the big klablooom .
Yes, I was doing one of those shuttling 2800 tons of stuff , it is all good and varied, some of the long distance 200 plus ly pay pretty well. I guess there are quite a few ways to up the trade rank from bulk passengers , regular trade, delivery missions, mining and I am about to sell 50 tonnes of rhodplumsite at Vonarburg terminal for 533K a tonne. I’ll by buying the rounds for everyone at the bar.
Got the hang of zipping through the asteroids in the conda then using the laterals to thrust around the debris picking off the remaining surface deposits . Took me a long while to realise to not target the free floating debris and just let the collector limpets do their thang. Also glad I have the new graphics card, mining would have been nigh on impossible , and ugly, with the 660.
