Plastic surgery, to hide their genetically engineered “ugly” human-like features, to fit in with the new breed.
I can explain anything.

“Vanity, Thy name is Klingon”.
Nah, I don’t buy it.
Remember General Martock who wouldn’t let Bashir give him a new eye because people might think he was a sissy?
Oh yeah? 'splain this!
[leaps away from desk, does a little dance jig, runs out the front door screaming, “I wanna be an Airborne Ranger! I wanna fly high in the sky!” at the top of my lungs…]
No, but I wasn’t a fan of DS9. I’m guessing it was a battle-wound? That’d be a bit different for a Klingon than ‘deformity due to genetic experimentation’.
Yeah. I’ll keep an eye out for him.
>>Makes another little mark on a very long list.<<
On the contrary. Even if it contradicted canon (which, apparently, it does not), I still prefer that to the absurd notion that T’Pol would have been made First Officer without a commission. Only took them three years to fix it!
The genetic engineering theory’s been around for at least twenty years now and I still don’t buy it. Just accept it as Roddenberry finally being able to afford to make them look like he wanted to and move on.
Yeah, he lucased Trek decades before Lucas lucased Wars.
Just in case anyone’s wondering, this is a three episode arc.
Borderland - Oct 29
Cold Station 12 - Nov 5
The Augments - Nov 12
Then, on Nov 19 begins the Major Vulcan Developement Arc (MVDA) with the episode, The Forge.
Aren’t there three eps in the Vulcan arc too? “Kir’Shara” (?) and “Awakening” ?
The veteran Trek actor also discussed how Star Trek was seen as a “dependable cash cow” by Paramount and also as “the idiot-savant child, whom they have no respect for except on a financial basis.” Despite this, he seemed to wish nothing but the best for the current show. “I hope these guest shots that are happening on ‘Enterprise’ make some kind of a difference,” he said. “Really, this is going to be their best year. They’re coming into their own.”
The MVDA will apparantly be four eps long. (Or not, they could have a stand alone ep in there) because Daedalus will be the 10th ep of the season.
Or, I miscounted.
3 eps for the MVDA.
btw, T’Pau* will in the MVDA. Shran, too. (After Daedalus is Bable One, also with Shran, which is maybe why I had the number of eps mixed up.)**
*not the music group
** this may be the start of the Founding the Fedration Arc (FtFA), or it may be stand alone. Will try to find more info. If you got some, tell!
Which would be fine, if not for Trials and Tribble-ations
You didn’t see the final scene?
When Nog wakes up from his dream and uncle Quark takes him to task for stealing liquor from the bar?
(Quark is, of course, angry that Nog was caught, but I digress.)
Guy: You sonuvva -
Data: Actually, Mother was a chemist
Great line.
A few other notes…
I liked how the A-story moved quickly and left the viewer to fill in gaps. Different format, but nice.
They painted all the Enterprise doors blue, and spattered paint all over the transporter! Agh! That will take me forever to get used to.
If the ending turns out to be “Muad’dib and crew rebel against Data”, I will be very very upset.
sigh I hate having no internet during the weekends and coming late to the party…
Oh, and another thing. While it made sense for Data to make a jab about southern slavery to Trip, I’m really tired of the implication that the South was the only civilization in the world to have ever had slaves. Never mind Rome, Greece, African civilizations, etc.
Rome and Greece had slaves in 18 CE and abandoned the practice peacefully over time whereas the US had them in 1800 CE and stopped only after a really bloody war so there’s a bit of a difference.
Of course, various African nations and Brazil had them around the same time we did but their populations aren’t white or particularly Western so they don’t matter.
Here, Hampster! Here boy! <whistles> C’mere, little fella!
Presenting Star Trek: The Original Series: SPECIAL EDITION !
We’ve digitally altered every Klingon to have head bumps, and have redone the previously awful effects sequence from “The Deadly Years” where 3 Romulan Birds of Prey looked like just one ship moving back and forth. Furthermore, we’ve replaced the crew’s phasers with walkie-talkies, and have changed “Devil in the Dark” so that the Horta fires first.
