Nicholas Meyer is a dirty liar.
Okay, maybe not, but it’s generally accepted that it was fake and that’s what I believe. Just seems too muscular to me.

Besides, if Aes couldn’t disagree, he wouldn’t be able to post.
People posting “yeah!” for every post would make for very boring discussion.
Unless it was about how hot Ezri, Kira, and Hoshi are. Then it would be the only logical reply.
And there is where I disagree. People can have all sorts of discussions without having to take opposing sides. Not that disagreement is always wrong, either. But there are plenty of things to discuss other than Uh huh / Nuh uh.
As for Hoshi, she is absolutely darling. Ezri, tho, does nothing for me. A little to boyish I guess. Kira is downright ugly.
Go ahead and disagree, I know you want to.
My sister thinks here hampster is “absolutely darling”.
Yeah.
Yeah!
Actually, I have no problem with people agreeing and I don’t oppose people out of any natural contrariness. If I disagree, it’s simply because I have a differing point of view or, if I’m feeling playful, I’ll play devil’s advocate just to tease a friend much the same way you and I parse our posts wrong to get viva’s goat.
That being said, threads with no differing view points do get tedious after a while. For instance, would you say these threads would be half as enjoyable without Cervaise’s commentary? His opinions are almost always different from mine due to the different ways we approach watching television but without his participation, they would not be as fun.
The same for Corner’s bullet lists; your nitpicks; and cplant’s moderating.
To be perfectly honest though, I don’t know why I’ve been labelled as the contrarian. I know I have a tendency to pick at nits and that I’m one of the more outspoken apologists but considering the subject matter and its fans, both here and elsewhere, I see my behaviour as rather moderate.
Of course, people are often blind to their own faults and I admit I could be in denial but I somehow doubt it.
And of course I disagree with your view of Ezri and Kira but take no offense at it. Everyone has different tastes and I’ve often found the women you’ve been appreciative of to be rather plain so it’s no surprise your opinions would be reciprocal. To each their own.
WTF?
I’ve never moderated anything in my life.
If nominated, I will not run.
If elected I will not serve.
I refuse to join a club that would have me as a member.
If this were a series, you’d be the captain. At least the way I percieve the subtle hierarchy here.
Sure, it’d be in name only and the inmates would be running the asylum but I’ve always thought of you as the ENT threads’ Great Bird.
A different point of view does not automatically mean an opposing point of view. Many times we discuss different sides of the same coin. Also, perhaps our focus is not on the same things. Again, not opposing, but still different and quite varied.
At times, tho (and I think it’s a recent SDMB phenomenon, not an Aes thing only), it seems as tho a diametricly opposed veiwpoint is the only thing that comes out of some people’s mouths. Such constant negativism can become tiring and taxing.
Does that mean we should never air an opposing viewpoint? Of course not! That would be ridiculous. But if someone, anyone, finds themselves fairly consistantly on the opposite or negative side of discussions, no matter how trivial, then perhaps they need to take a step back every now and then and look at themselves.
I like you, Aes. But lately you seem to be very negative and contrary. Maybe it’s a symptom of real life stresses bleeding over onto the board. If so, I apologise for this post. I would rather disagree with you than have a faux conversation with half of the active Dopers. But, goodness, you’ve been contrary and combative lately. About the most trivial of subjects. I’m not just talking about Trek Doping, either.
If I offend you, I apologise. But, I would like to enjoy reading the Trek threads without always seeing some trivial did/did not subject being harped on. To me, that’s tiring. But, it’s all a point of imho and ymmv.
Oh well… maybe the next few eps of ENT will be so interesting that we discuss the actual show aired for 5 pages (like Lost) and not get bogged downed in our basic personality conflicts. Hell, for that matter, maybe I’m stressed. That idea deserves a look, too.
Anyways, Aes, in any list of Trek Dopers, you will always be a major player in my book. And my absolutely fave admin at my old board. So, don’t take this as even a minor pitting. Just something I felt needed saying between friends.
c’plant, you are the most frequent ENT thread starter, and you tend to direct hijacks back to the ep (eventually). So, you are the executive producer.
Tracer would be continuity, Viva, script editor.
wearia is best boy, Aes is in charge of novelisation.
Cervaise would be a critic/consultant, and Corner is the guy that tapes up the backgrounds.
I guess I would vary between an asst director and production staff.
Shut up and get back to the OP.
^:dubious:^
I’m not bothered by the conversation; I just don’t see the negativity that you do.
Maybe if you linked to some posts that typify my new behaviour, I could try to see what it is you do but, as is, I’m unaware of any personality shift.
Umm, you haven’t noticed that the cut on your face keeps changing sides?

Spiders and Goats = Biosteel!
Genetic engineering, yeah baby.
[sup]Impressions before reading the posts[/sup]
I loved the episode. It has fast-paced plots and multiple storylines. I loved the little things that you can think about after the episode. It reminds me more of the fun TOS episodes.
The little visual and dialogue details in Soong’s prison cell are a real step up in crafting an engaging story. The prison is a nice building as a peaceful Earth would have made it. The cell is spartan but roomy. Commenting how Soong used a Padd to engineer an escape brings home the fact that he uses paper and pen and that the guard over the comm is of poor quality (probably had to remove the Vid-Display since he probably engineered an escape with that too). The handcuffs are also logical, nicely used in the beginning, and imaginatively used during Soong’s escape.
I loved how making the Orion men so Huge brought another dimension to the Orions. It was so cute to see the guard holding up T’Pol like a little doll. And having Archer use the TOS-like flip communicator felt like home. Archer’s and Soong’s exchange about genetics also harkened back to Kirk’s morality dialogues that summed things up. It’s the kind of episode where everyone speaks English but you don’t mind.
Enterprise should have expected the Augments to take Soong, so I can’t imagine they were as unprepared as it looked. I would have injected an active and a passive transponder into Soong expecting that he would escape. They would expect Soong would find the active one and maybe miss the passive one.
At the end of the arc, I wonder if they’ll write a comment for Soong like, “Well I failed to make a better mouse; maybe I’ll make a better mousetrap.” (Or actually some better writing) since the Augments will probably be defeated (along with Soong) and Soong will end up back in his prison cell. I just think they’ll write something that alludes to his descendant being a leading robotic scientist.
Note, in the TOS timeline, Khan escaped in the Botany Bay (circa 2050) so these Augments came later. This isn’t a setup or a followup for Khan.
[ul][li]The Klingon ship didn’t seem to have room for the Augments ship, so I wonder what happened to it.[]Cute sideways Star-Trek/Nike logo on the prison.[]Loved all the notes Soong emassed in prison.[]When Archer called his briefing, didn’t it seem like T’Pol was wearing the same outfit from weeks ago? Even on short notice I would have expected some to get in uniform. However, Hoshi looked extremely nice with her hair down.[]Trip said to T’Pol, “You were on Vulcan another two weeks after I left,” so we’ve got room for another plotline.[]I think it was always assumed that warping out next to a plaent was a bad thing. Enterprise left spacedock and then shot away. Either that was impulse speed and it looks like going to Warp, or it was Warp speed and there are continuity problems.[]T’Pol had trouble supressing emotions when Archer gave her that gift. Sometimes I like her acting trying to be emotional and supress it, the next moment I am irritated that she’s not playing a Vulcan correctly, then there’s the Trellium-D, then I think, shut up, it’s a fun show.[]I liked the TOS communicator.[]Why were only 9 teleported? No good reason. The Orion teleporters are good since they can get you while sliding down a banister. Boy was that tech in for a surprise![]I wish the Augments had improvised some new clothing from the Klingons, that could have defined their character more. Maybe not changing defines their character. They should also have found a comb.[]I liked the auction and the hieroglyphics. I was confused at how Archer could interact so quickly and well in an auction system he’s never been in.[]We needed to see more Orion slave girls.[]I liked Soong’s fall when his handcuffs were unlocked.I liked not wrapping everything up in an hour.[/ul][/li]In the preview for the next episode, I loved the “You, son of a…” - “Actually, my mother was a chemist”.
Sulu takes the Bird of Prey to warp while still in Earth’s atmosphere in The Voyage Home.
Yes, but I had always thought that 1) it had a smaller warp envelope and 2) it was a more advanced ship. Seeing NX-01 do it blows all that.
[ul][li]I’ll think of that as set designer versus gopher[]I’m glad you put that ‘t’ in assistant[]Hi, Opal[*]What lists?[/ul][/li]It reminds me. I get in so much trouble, especially with my wife, because I “assume” I’m doing the best thing instead of asking what would be appreciated. I wanted to minimize reading time so you would actually read all my narcissistic “hey look at me, I’ve noticed something cool” without getting bored. Lists seemed livelier than long paragraphs. Now I’m tryin’ to use a bit 'o both.
[Back on topic]
I thought T’Pol’s line to Trip should have been, “Vulcans have no honeymoons, Mr. Tucker” in honor of Spock’s line to Uhuru
Okay, I really liked this episode. Why?
Well, aside from generally being a good watch, it gives us two potential contributions to Trek continuity. (Of course, it gives us a possible problem in T’Pol’s commission, too.)
First - I think one might reasonably guess where Dr. Soong’s (the TNG one) first name comes from. He might well have been named after Khan Noonien Singh. Flimsy? Sure, but before this episode, we just had two totally disconnected characters with strikingly similar names.
Second - A plausible explanation for the TOS ridgeless Klingons. Stay with me, here. Klingons see Augments kicking all kinds of butt. Klingons say to themselves, “Selves, we need to get on that genetic engineering bandwagon in a massive way!” A generation later, and they’re tougher, but they’ve managed to “humanize” their appearance. D’oh!. Then it takes them a while to tweak the genetics to regain their original ridges.
Hope the producers use something like that.
Forget about it. DS9s Blood Oath had Kang, Kor and Koloth from TOS.
