Anyone on SDMB an infomercial junkie like I am?
If so, I just wanted to send a reminder out there to research products before buying anything- because too many people get seduced by the infomercial and buy away.
Here are some testimonials on Epil-Stop, a hair remover/growth inhibitor, that you won’t find on the infomercial or the company website:

I tried it, Tigress. It doesn’t work…and if it didn’t work for ME, I can’t see how it would work for anyone since I am a redhead, with very fine and easy to remove hair.
I do, however, recommend NADS. It works like a charm, and is (supposedly) natural to boot.

I have Nad’s actually (which I bought at Walgreen’s). It grew back within a few days for me. I stopped using it because I somehow made all the pores on my thigh erupt, bleed, and break out.
But it worked for everyone else I know.
I think I’m going to stick with salon waxing. Depilatories don’t work, and I’ll save shaving for days where I hate myself. Ouch.
I quit shaving because (redhead thing again) I have really thin skin or something, and I always looked like I had been attacked by the razor blade. I still have SCARS from shaving!
I am surprised that you had that problem with NADS…usually, if anyone is going to have that kind of problem with a product it is me. Too bad…salon waxing is so expensive.
But…whatever works!
And btw…hello! I don’t think we have met before? Nice to meet you now!

I’m probably too stupid to use Nad’s. What happened is that I lost all the cloth strips except for one, so I kept using the same one over and over for one leg. I’d keep washing it and blowing it out with a hair dryer, and then re-using it. The time my leg exploded was when I didn’t really dry it off properly. Damn, did that hurt!
It’s nice to meet you, Scotticher. I used to be on Straight Dope a long time ago under a different name which I’ve since forgotten, and I kinda missed it… So here I am, reborn under my new name.
Interestingly enough, an obscure Canadian tv show called “Street Cents” did a rough test on NADS, and some other hair removal products.
Basically, NADS is an overhyped, overpriced version of cold waxing.
I don’t have trouble with ordinary razors, so I’ll be sticking with them for a while. But I’ve seen the commercial. What just slew me about it was the man that they showed, removing his “unwanted chest hair.”
Now, I do understand that some guys like their chests smooth, and some women like men with a smooth chest. But when I think of guys with unwanted hair, I think of those peculiarly hairy guys, you know? The ones with hair just everywhere, like on their backs and stuff (my dad & brother spring immediately to mind). The guy in the commercial just had a small patch on his chest, not too much, not just a few strands. Just right, IMHO.
I’m still scratching my head over that one.
I can’t shave without getting a ton of cuts, and they hurt, dammit! Skintimate or not!
Did you see the guy with the ear hair? That was kind of funny. I do agree about the chest hair, though… It was average. A little hair looks natural and nice, *I *think.
