Er 11/8

Abby gives in to temptation while Luka remains in Croatia. I assume this means she’s really hitting the bottle. I don’t know if she gives in to anything or anyone else beyond that.

What happened that Abby wants to drink? Joe’s okay, isn’t he? I’ve missed a few episodes. Actually, I haven’t watched at all this season, but I’m reading the threads.

So what did Chuny say her real name is?

She gave in to more than the bottle.

It was frustrating to see how obviously drunk she was in the bar, but her friends just acted like everything was fine.

Good episode though.

So what’s the deal with board-certification, anyway?

I heard “Ethel”

Yeah, that’s what I thought I heard, but then I said, “Naw. . .”

Even by *ER * standards, that was a pretty badly done episode. I didn’t expect the writers’ strike to affect primetime programs this quickly. :stuck_out_tongue:

Why was it boiling hot with power failures in October? Either I missed something about rampant global warming, or they just goofed - a week or two ago, the teenage doctor was approaching Neela for help regarding his date for Homecoming. Very seasonally-appropriate as Homecoming is usually in late October or early November. A week later, Chicago is in a heat wave?

The behavior of lights in those power failures was all wrong - when the utility goes out, it’s out. None of that lights flickering on and off in patterns across the floor like a disco. Likewise at the airport - the flight status displays are not going to scramble and go to static - they just go black. And a hospital should be in an “X” outage block, meaning they’re the absolute last customer to lose power in a rotating outage.

Anyone else expecting that energy conservation (?) guy from the county to get fried after he asked about the utility access?

I think she actually said “Esther.”

That was weird…it was so contrived to make a point about global warming, it was annoying and distracting, IMO. Chicago does not get heat waves in October, and even when we do get them (like, in July or August), widespread blackouts are pretty rare. Certainly, I don’t remember the last time we had one so bad that there was looting as a result. Never heard of a hospital losing their generator power, either.

Exactly. What usually seems to happen is that the lights go dim & bright, and maybe computers go out because they can’t get enough juice, and then the lights are killed completely.

Ha ha…yes, I did think of that.

I thought it was an excellent episode, but all because of Maura Tierney’s acting.

Is Maura Tierney leaving the show? Usually when they put a character into a long self destructive decline it’s because the actor is leaving.

I would agree that Maura did a fine job with her acting, but the character of Abby is really becoming unlikeable.

So… Luka is out of the country for a long period of time. And in the middle of that, Abby has a one night stand. Which conveniently means that, were she to get pregnant, Luka would KNOW he was not the father.

Hmmm…
I thought this episode had some fun moments, particularly at the beginning. And Maura Tierney really is an excellent actress. And you can’t have too much of sweaty Linda Cardellini…

I feel asleep during the episode and missed this but I am pretty sure that Abby had to have a hysterectomy when she was having problems when Joe was born.

Yep. Assuming Dr. Moretti has no cooties, the worst she’ll have is a good ol’ case of the guilts.

I caught the last 15 minutes of this. Assuming she had slept off her drunkenness, her sober judgment leaves a lot to be desired. Hi (son), it’s 3 a.m. and you’re awake and crying, let’s go to Croatia! [packs a single duffle bag, high-tails it to the airport and gets into a fight with the ticket agent, and sulks off…]

I think she’s about to go completely batshit crazy.

Well, it looks like Luka’s back next week, just in time to prevent an utter breakdown.

And she hadn’t even showered or changed after riding the Tucci-train.

Thanks for the chuckle.

let us not forget that she left her fancy SUV parked on a city street under the El when she hopped in a cab…
