I’m up and caffeinating; nearly ready to go to work It should be pretty quiet today too, since Monday is a Holiday and a lot of folks are either working from home today (as usual for a Friday) or taking leave to make a 4-day weekend. So nice and quiet.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienated. I’m waitin’ on bug man to show up and then I shall purtify and go take care of some stuff in town. I may mow da yahd later. Or not. We shall see.
There’s a town in Alabama that at one time was known as Slapout and the “urban legend” (population less than 500) was that the grocery store there was always “slap out” of whatever the customer wanted.
Home. Sick. <snurfle> I think I may have a variant on what **FCD **had last weekend. My head is stuffed up and my nose is faucet-like. Plus I’ll occasionally get a coughing or sneezing fit. And of course it would come right before the sailboat show and a long weekend. ick.
I just finished a bowl of chickie noodle soup. After I read my comics, I may go lie down and nap for a while. Unless I can find a quick sinus-transplant…
Looks like we’re going to lose 3 fishies. The lionfish, the clown trigger, and the puffer all have some sort of infection that’s causing their eyes to cloud over. We talked to our fish guy and he suggested an antibiotic. The fish are isolated in a hospital tank, but they seem to be getting worse. I’ll be surprised if they survive the weekend. Over $300 of fish, soon to be compost… At least we’ve learned who not to buy from. We’re pretty sure one particular supplier is the cause of our sick fish.
Ow! I was just wandering by to say that our Betta passed on last night, but he was a fish in a plastic cup on an endcap for five bucks or so. Not that that made him any more or less valuable as a living thing, but $100 per fish? Ouch.
They can be such heartbreakers. The house already seems much quieter without the slight gurgle of an aquarium filter.
We’re going to hold off until after Faire season to get any more fish. For now, all of the tanks have been washed out and stashed in a closet.
Think we’re going to go from room-temp goldfish to tropicals. Nothing exotic - probably just some neons and platies to start.
**gotti **- saltwater fish tend to be $$$. Even the cheap ones are rarely under $20 each. And the clown trigger is no more. Once the water warms up a bit more, **FCD **is going to do a water change on the hospital tank to see if he can save the lionfish and the puffer. I’ll be surprised.
Well, I think I’ll go assume the knit position in front of the TV. Maybe I’ll doze off. I hate being sick.
This weekend will be ‘working on house’ weekend. We can’t afford a new kitchen and to be honest there is nothing wrong with the kitchen layout, cupboards etc etc but they are looking tired as it is the original kitchen from when the house was built so we are going to give them a makeover. Which will involve stripping and re-painting or staining them. That we will decide tomorrow. Then new hardware and a new counter top and back splash. Easy. The counter top we have right now is also original and is white tile with grey grout that is really difficult to keep clean. And is ugly. And the backsplash has the occassional ugly flower tile thrown in. Thanksgiving weekend will be ‘destroy the kitchen’ weekend. We also need to finish repainting the rest of the room doors and strip and re-paint one last window sill in the little bedroom. Fun!
Supper tonight is pork loin wrapped in bacon with veggies of some description. Laters!
Yup, saltwater fishies are expensive. That’s another reason I don’t have a saltwater tank. They’re beautiful, but it hurts when they die.
I haven’t done much but hang out in front of the PC and slurp coffee. I’m fixing to get myself cleaned up and head out to the stores for errands. I’ve paid a couple of bills too.
Why did this week seem so long? I thought maybe it was just at my company, but it sounds like everyone here felt the same way.
It’s 80 here, which is really warm for Minnesota in October. My team went out for lunch at a place with a nice patio. It’s hard to come back in after that and impossible to stay motivated to do work.
mmmmmm I redid the kitchen in my first house. I sanded, primed and painted seventy (!) cabinet doors and the facing, replaced all the hardware, replaced the counter tops and the back splash, put in a stainless steel sink and put down new linoleum. It looked like a new kitchen when I got through and it sold the people who bought the house from me because it looked so good. It’s a lot of work but in the end worth it.
I’m here in TVLand and I think we’re going out for dinner pretty soon. I imagine dinner will be followed shortly thereafter by naptime because I’m tired. It’s been a long day.
I just went to check on the hospital tank - the two are still alive. I dropped a few shrimps into the tank to see if they’ll eat. Who knows - maybe the water change will make a difference…
**FCD **and daughter have gone out to eat. I’m still feeling iffy. In fact, I’ve had to stop a couple of times while writing this to sneeze. ugh. Along with the sneezies and the snufflies, I’m dealing with a bit of gastrointestinal distress. I just don’t know if I can do the boat show. Dammit.
I think I’m up to 6 sneezes in a row. My keyboard is probably unsafe… just stand back.
