The thing is, Shodan isn’t actually doing anything. He typed that silliness into a sig file years ago and now it just automatically appears. It’s annoying in a very minor way but it’s actually more effort to not do it.
On the other hand, leaving it there when he is well aware that it annoys a significant number of people is definitely dickish and speaks to his character but it’s well within the rules. I’ve just learned to not see it.
I disagree. People who are annoyed by the signature are mostly using that as a proxy for not liking him or not liking his politics. It’s not dickish to refuse to give in to childish demands.
Instead of continuing the pointless argument of whether or not Shodan’s annoying - which I assumed had been settled years ago - I’ll try to post something somewhat on-topic: for a fresh example of a dickish “joke” (?) post, check out Superhal’s answer in the “Your least favorite Modern Family character” thread here.
Yeah, doesn’t really seem like something to get too worked about about. Like Snowboarder Bo’s quarry throwing. The outsized outrage it elicits is funnier than the catchphrase is annoying, if that makes sense.
It doesn’t look like it, but the Shodan hijack is actually adding value to the pitting of BPC.
Even though no one seems to have actually done it we’ve all been sternly warned against bringing up the fact that Budget makes antisemitic remarks and prefers underage mentally disabled girls as sexual partners in threads not specifically on those topics.
Yet, it seems clear that it’s OK to bring up random comments that Shodan made in a different thread six years ago.
I, for one, am anxiously awaiting the warnings that are sure to come against the posters doing exactly to Shodan exactly what we were just warned we couldn’t ever to do Budget.
You should totally go Galt on their asses. Refuse to supply the Board with your wit and wisdom for say, oh, about six months or so, and when they come begging to have you back… Boy, that would show them!
I was going to mention the same thing but then I realized that I would be discussing moderation in the Pit and that would be against the rules as well.
The Radiant Ones are the very avatars of enlightened wisdom and justice, as befits those who are the Hand of The Cecil. I fully realize that this is a bold and controversial statement, but I am not afraid to make my stand! And I am fully qualified for such judgement, for I was once banned! OK, half an hour, but still! Banned name!
