I am going to ask you a question, and I want you to know that regardless of what has gone on in the game prior to this question I am not asking you this because I am suspicious of you, only because I am trying to sort a few things out and insight into your thought process will help me with that. So don’t get reactionary, this is not an accusation.

What I mean is that taking everything into account, including the events of Day One and Day Two, and my breadcrumbing of my role in my exchange with Normal Phase, Occam’s Razor says that I’m telling the truth. Many people questioned the timing of my claim, but only one person to that point tried to paint me as actively anti-Town for claiming. I found that curious. I also find it curious that people are questioning the “Vanilla” portion of the claim, when it explains so very much about how I reacted to you and Oy! earlier. If Oy! had a role similar to mine, she could have legitimately questioned whether actual VT with no potential additional powers had the same PM, and still have been Vanilla at the time she asked the question.

Hal basically has the long and the short of what I’m trying to do. Now that the Scum Roleblocker is dead, I don’t fear being roleblocked toNight, and I may or may not end up getting killed, but I’ll be VT after toNight. Do you dare waste a kill on me? Do I still have the Flower? Am I otherwise protected? What does the spell do? All that and many other questions are bouncing around amongst the likely pathetically few numbers of Scum left.

Now, on to Mahaloth. Role PM typos aside (and I don’t put too much credence into most of those, because typos happen and nobody’s perfect, not even story), I have one question for Mahaloth that I hope he’ll be able to answer.

Anyway, I guess I was deciding whether to choose to find out about scum or 3rd parties. Also, I was wondering if I should risk surviving until later in the game. Late in the game, when we’re down to far less of us, learning the number of scum would be great in telling us whether we are at lylo or not and so forth.

The more I thought of it, I began to realize I could very easily die. We had serious deaths coming our way there. So, I figured I should probably just use the power and avoid dying with it unused.

So I did. I had to wait until Night to get my answer and I posted it ASAP.

I did say NAF both then and today, but meant Normal both times. I got NAF stuck in my head and then never fixed it until I learned it was otherwise just today.

Anyway:

1. Telcontar played stiffly.

2. His comments about peek did look very fake/forced.

3. He did seem awfully confident Mcginty is town.

I mentioned that I agree with it right away when I posted my initial vote. I just mixed up NAF and Normal.

It would not have seemed suspicious if you had actually stated what you agreed with at the time.

Of course, it would not have seemed suspicious if you hadn’t added on your own facts to the case which you were unable to support.

And it would have been nice if what you were actually accusing him of doing would apply so well to yourself. It almost seems like a guilty subconscious.

Taking Drain’s claim at face value, it is possible that she would have never met the prerequisites for her power, which would have made her functionally vanilla. A one-time power that you are free to use at your discretion is not the same thing as a one-time power that can only be earned by satisfying X, Y, and Z first.

If what she says is true:

She uses her power every Night if she chooses, it just might not have an effect, much like a doctor or roleblocker or redirector might not have an actual action

Interesting claims, two people spontaneously claim results of one-shot powers and are now rendered vanilla.

I see Natlaw picked up on the Buffy reference in Drain’s PM. Weird.
I noticed some others.the The?You know what? Useful at what?Once per game? I can certainly understand why this should be a one, or maybe two-shot power, but why put it this way? How many games will you have this role for?I can’t see any formal definitions in the post titled The Rules (#111).

Let’s see. How about the entire events of Day One, including how I was so certain that Oy! could have been Vanilla and uncertain about whether all VTs had the same PM (after all, I am listed as Vanilla, and yet I HAS A POWER, WHAT DO I DO WIF IT?), and my behavior yesterDay, in which I wanted the Day to end quickly with a lynch of Telcontar. You may not have seen anything worth explaining, because you weren’t voting for me, but I bet for those who were, this answers a whole crap-ton of questions they had. And Scum, if you want to take a shot at me toNight, go ahead, but remember that I may or may not still have that Flower!

And as for why it’s not easy…the decision of whether or not to use it is easy, of course. The fact that I have no idea what it’s going to do makes it more complicated than I was expecting. So I figured I’d throw it all out there and see how people reacted to it. And your reaction is…quite interesting. For everyone else, my claim seems to make sense, but you’re here smudging me by saying it’s not pro-Town. Riddle me this–why would a member of a depleted Scum team or a third-party potentially flying solo and trying to stay under the radar end up putting a giant-ass target right on her back like this?

Fair point, but an educated guess says that whatever the spell does, it’ll likely do it in the next Day/Night cycle.
Exactly – we don’t know if Drain will get results, or if the results will be public knowledge – and more importantly, scum don’t know either. So, it’s up to them if they want to guess she will know the results exclusively and take a shot at her Tonight. Guess right, and it’s a beneficial scum move. Guess wrong, and they take a shot at vanilla.

You seem sure that Drain is telling the truth.

I think you might be misreading what Drain said. According to her, she had the ability to ‘target’ someone each Night, to see if they were lynched the next Day. Once she was successful in this endeavor, she got access to her “single spell”. The implication is that the spell itself is a one-shot deal, though the wording doesn’t make this explicitly clear.

Fuck me I hate the no nested quotes change. I really wanted to post this and the post it was referring to. However, do to circumstances beyond my control, I find myself overserved and unwilling to go back and plod through posts to do it properly.

The point is - This really was a thorn in my side as well. It just seems forced. Just not right. Now that I go back and re-read it with a bit of suspicion, it looks worse.

I gotta look at it with sober eyes in the morn, but for now I’m not diggin it.

She had the "power’ to target someone each Night, but is only successful if that person is lynched the next Day. The benefit is a spell

A doctor has the “power” to protect someone each Night, but is only successful if that person is targeted to be killed. The benefit is that person is not killed.

A roleblocker has the “power” to target someone each Night. The power is only successful if that person tried to use a power that Night. The benefit is that the action of that person is blocked.

We already have 2 dead “specials” and 3 dead “Vanillas” Drain is not Vanilla.

And, completely aside, a character from another canon seems likely to be PFK or 3rd Party in much the same way Predator and Freddy were in the original game

POWERS:

1. At the moment, you have no special powers, abilities, or information. However, your sharp analytical skills are likely to come in very handy. Each Night, you will identify (via PM to the moderator) one player that you believe to be non-Town. You may choose the same player on more than one Night. Please note that this ability is not an active power and can not be blocked or in any other way affected by the power(s) of other players.

If, your designated suspect is lynched on the Day following your designation of him/her as your primary suspect, with your vote among the lynching votes, and if (s)he is non-Town, you will gain sufficient confidence in your own competence to attempt the single spell to which you have access.

Again, taking her claim at face value, the “power” she has prior to meeting any requirements has no payload. She’s just selecting who she thinks is non-Town by night. She has to prime the pump in two ways in order to achieve the actual payload. A player sending PMs all game but never achieving the magic combination of choosing the non-town player who is lynched the next day, would go through the game essentially vanilla.

It is an odd and non-traditional role, yes, but it is possible to be played with no access to any extra abilities. Ergo I don’t see how not being labeled as “Special” is being held against her with the role as described.
