Evil Dead Mafia II - Teaser and Sign-Ups [Game On!]

I do see the point, and it is possible.

I still believe that her power is more likely to be listed as “Special”

Is it likely that a role such as this or say a back-up power would be listed as Vanilla?

Additionally, how likely is it that a role from a different canon (there was no library in any of the Evil Dead movies as far as I recall) is a Town role?

I saw the first Evil Dead probably 20 years ago, and I’ve seen the last 20 minutes or so of Army of Darkness, but that’s about the extent of my knowledge of the canon. Have all of the other role PMs we’ve seen so far been lifted directly from the movies?

How many games with clear canon lines have had roles thrown in specifically to fuck with players trying to play with those lines?

NETA play by those lines?

This is an eventful night!

So if Mahaloth is on the level there are 2 malicious 3rd parties out there, and Drain has a ‘lucky dip’ power that should be beneficial to us, but we don’t know how. I agree with the crown that says Drain should use it tonight. Then, tomorrow, either Drain is dead and thus we know whether or not they were on the level, or they are alive with results of ‘lucky dip power’ for us to assess.

A few things appear a little “off” in Mahaloth’s claim. I’ve removed the spoiler tag and highlighted in orange the suspicious bits. First of all I don’t seem to get that little heading on the top of my PM’s. Second, storyteller appears to me to be a “guest” not a “member”. Third, how can storyteller be offline and sending a PM? Fourth, when I just looked moments ago, storyteller’s post count was 2957. How could it have been 2955 at the start of the game?

Just tried it with my role pm. If as well as highlighting the txt, you highlight the blue underlined bit which says storyteller, you get the CURRENT stats on srtory, not the ones in play when the message was sent.

I can reproduce the “storyteller storyteller is offline” part with a straight cut and paste of my role PM (as opposed to Forwarding or Replying to my role PM) because it is actually a hyperlink with real time status information on story at the time of the cut and paste.

However, I cannot reproduce the Member instead of Guest (I see Guest) and I cannot reproduce getting any post count of Story’s.

So yeah, still looking fishy and getting fishier by the moment.

I get guest too. Missed that part.

Also, no post count. Care to tell us how you made your role pm post Mahaloth.

It took a while but I found it… from the orginal version of the game, brewha quoted this PM from Story (snipped):

It shows Story as “member” but I think this was a fake PM.

Well, that’s a barrage of information.

On Drain Bead:

  1. From my perspective, I didn’t think there was a whole lot that needed to be explained. However, I know from past experience that when you’ve got something you want to keep concealed, you’re much more conscious of every way in which you might have tipped your hand. So I can understand that she might have thought she was unduly exposed. And for all I know, brighter people than me had picked up on it.

  2. Assuming she’s telling the truth, there’s no reason at this point not to use the power toNight. (And, indeed, no reason to hang on to it even if she hadn’t outed herself).

  3. Is she telling the truth? Points in her favour: she wasn’t under significant vote pressure, nor was a case building against her (Mahaloth and Suburban Plankton are, I would say, getting more attention). From the point of view of Scum, an unprompted fake claim seems unneccessary for her. (This is particularly true if Scum still have limited numbers of fake claims, but with Telcontar, Astral and peek not providing one, this is probably not an issue anymore.) As to the claim itself, I think it’s plausible. In the previous game, Cookies’ role of Ash was labelled Vanilla - but picked up various powers later on. But for me, the timing is the main issue I’m inclined to believe it.

  4. On the canonicity of the role - how many canon roles from Evil Dead are there? I can think of two - Ash and Deadite. Everyone else, this game and last, has been a generic horror trope. Given that this version has an explicit TV set-up, as witness the opening colour and the Pharma Rep vanilla role, I don’t think it’s a massive anomaly to have a Buffy shout-out.

On Mahaloth:

  1. Normally I’m sceptical about analysing cut and paste artifacts, but the Guest/Member dichotomy seems quite major. I’m happy with assuming that any fake PMs would be posted on the Scum board and not sent via PM, so I understand that the biggest scope for error lies in making it look like a PM. But it seems like a difficult mistake to make. I don’t see how it could happen if he were copying a true PM either. However, I’m reluctant to rely on this sort of thing for a lynch.

  2. The timing of the claim is more suspect. special ed and NAF were putting quite a bit of pressure on Mahaloth, interrogating his case against Telcontar. Maha doesn’t say he’s claiming in response to that - he’s claiming to share his info - but if accepted it would have the effect of neutralising the arguments against him. So on that basis I’m slightly more wary.

  3. The claim itself is potentially unprovable, right until the end of the game. Even if we do kill 2 PFKs, we won’t necessarily know if there’s a third. Only if we did find and kill the notional third would we disprove Maha. We could expect that to take a little bit of time, if it happened at all, so in that respect it’s a useful claim for Scum.

  4. The claimed number of PFKs isn’t a surprise. It reflects the original ED game. It’s also in the safe zone. A claim of 0 or 3 would be difficult to swallow. Two or one are the easiest numbers to guess. And if you were guessing, you’d say two rather than one just in case two show up.

Also, I think it’s unlikely that both Maha and Drain are Scum. For them both to pull a role-PM gambit the same Night seems incredibly risky, and of limited value.

I’m not fond of analyzing PM artifacts either, but sometimes you end up with a lap full of something that walks like a duck and talks like a duck and dollars to doughnuts it is going to be a hot topic of conversation once the rest of the field catches up.

Oh, I agree it’s a biggy. I just prefer to flesh the case out a little more if possible.

Having seen the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series makes me weird? Or is the Buffy reference just weird (I agree with others that it isn’t)?

As for Mahaloths PM: Oy! since you dug up the PMs of the previous game before, can you post the one that had a similar power there - it was one of the masons if I remember correctly. That PM might have been used as a basis (possibly by Storyteller though).

Or you could use the wiki for that:
http://mafiagameswiki.com/mafiaWiki/Evil_Dead

Should have links to all PMs from the first game

I was lynched in my first mafia-game based on the time stamps of the PMs.
Sucked big time. But yeah, I was scum :dubious:

I don’t like it either - but it does seem strange with the “member”/“guest”-thing.
However I was once a member here and now I’m a guest - so it’s not impossible that Storys status has changed as well.
But when I try to copy/paste my PM I do get his current status - and not the one at the time the PM was send.

I’ve tried this with different browsers and the result is slightly different. For instance I don’t get the location in Firefox.

Because he is offline when I received it? I assume that is how it works. It must update along with the current info, like it does on posts.

Let me go look at the PM. :goes and does that:

Story is listed as a “Guest” on my PM. He isn’t?

I just selected the text from the bottom of the message and dragged it up to the top.

On your role PM post it says “Member”

Uh, story is listed as “Guest” on his posts when I see them too. He isn’t?

I’m a Charter Member. Does this affect how things appear?
