Day to end Saturday, October 30, at around 1:30PM.
Also, I have been informed that Mrs. McGinty is experiencing computer trouble and may not be able to participate for a few days.
Stanislaus,
I did say that the book is more of a distraction than anything. I did not ever say that we shouldn’t talk about it. I find it intriguing and would love to know more about it. But, when I said it was a distraction - it was. Any conversation about it was just speculation and did nothing to find scum or confirm town.
I’m impressed by how much work you put in to prove that I’ve talked about the book. You probably should have done more to prove that I thought we shouldn’t talk about it.
I messed up the Days. Sorry.
The whole having one game thread is not helping me sort things out and the votes that stays over don’t help much either.
Telcontar was lynched Day 3 (and that would be me voting for him right along with everyone else ).
I still think a sniped part of the role PM could have helped us in the Days to come. My idea wasn’t that we should quote our wincon or role-name.
What I said (and still feel would have been a good idea) was that we should pick out a sentence and posted it. For data.
Then when someone claimed later in the game that very first quote would have “locked them in”. They would have to stand by it and we would have been able to see if it indeed had the touch of Storyteller while still fitted with the rest of the role PM.
Why are you bringing this up again? The idea seemed to die with the fact that most didn’t want to follow along and since we now have several claims it’s sort of meaningless I guess…
Not buying it. Nice try at attempting to look like an early Telcontar voter, when you were one of the last ones in. And I also think your attempt to get us to post from our role PM’s was anti-town.
I basically think the case as laid out by Normal here and Stanislaus here is pretty solid. I’m especially pinged by the hammering of Oredigger followed by no vote and the Naf-is-a-liar thing. I also think the “especially with 4 town already dead” thing could be borderline PIS.
However, I’m not going to vote him because (1) there wouldn’t be much point aside from registering my approval of the case, which this post ought to do and (2) I want to point out another possible direction of inquiry.
This is to a large degree a metagame vote. If I were on the scum team and looking for a recruit, who would I look for? We as a board tend to lynch the loud and let quiet-but-not-too-quiet players live. We talk and talk about how we shouldn’t lynch the loud, but we don’t ever actually follow that up.
So I would be looking at players who had established themselves as low-volume posters, scum or Town. And to my mind, the two players who have a reputation as good, high-quality, low-volume posters in this game were MHaye and Nanook. And MHaye is dead and confirmed Town.
But I didn’t want to vote Nanook solely for that, so here’s a look at his posts so far:
536 - thinks 4 scum is possible if there are multiple other killing roles. Votes Romanic
785 - Mafia players on this board use phrases like smudging, snuggling, etc far too loosely. Only town roles he can see needing to fish are Vig and Roleblocker.
792 - followup to NAF on above.
872 - In-laws incoming; will be gone
1141 - is back, is sorry to have missed end of day
1227 - does not have the book/ is not interested in the book. Asks Idle why he is suspicious of Guiri.
1314 - pushes NAF on his “please vig me” line; what if there is no vig, or vig is blocked somehow? Do we spend the whole next day debating lynching you?
1415 - well let me just quote:
1453 - Votes peeker for not posting vanilla PM, says next vote will be on NAF
1756 - votes Telcontar
1818 - Final Vote Telcontar “these days never amount to much” 2117 - scolds ed and NAF for not previewing; thinks Maha’s PM issues are null, although Ed’s case is pretty good; behavior issues are hard to cover up. Promises to digest Normal’s case on SP 2235 - tells McGinty to get over himself
votes SP for Normal’s case, weak defense, argument that not having a good defense is a Town tell.
Notes that Drain should be considered 90% Town
2253: replies to Normal, re: McGinty, that no the reaction doesn’t seem to be in line with people’s views.
So that’s 12 game-relevant posts, of which 3 are nearly contentless vote posts (on Romanic and Telcontar).
Of the remainder, one post is a pretty hard push-back against the peeker lynch, characterizing the votes on him as “lazy Town”. This skepticism was quickly reversed, but he tied the lynch of peeker to a lynch the next day of NAF, whose case he had been on pretty hard earlier in the Day.
This is plausible from a Town player, but it also has a clear Scum motive - try to save peeker, then when it looks hopeless (either from peeker saying “lynch me” on the scum board or just because it was by then blatantly obvious he was giving it up in the main thread) at least try to get some lemonade out of the lemons by lining up a NAF lynch the next day.
Then his next overnight/day’s posts strike me mainly for how little is original in them. He thinks Ed’s case on Mahaloth is pretty good; he likes Normal’s case on Suburban and votes for him primarily on that basis. The only thing that looks original to me in those posts is his declaring Drain to be “90% Town” - at least, I don’t think anyone else went so far as to say that.
So yeah, since his major original contribution to the game so far was defending peeker and pressuring NAF, and for the metagame reason that I think he’s a very attractive target for the pre-game scum recruiters, I will
I don’t know why the Suburban Case doesn’t feel right to me, but it doesn’t. I can’t support it. It’s a gut thing and I hope I am wrong, but I like the case against Nanook. I am going to play out the rope on my vote for Total toDay, but Nanook may end up getting my vote toMorrow.
From our dead Scum so far, Telcontar, Astral, and peeker, do you think that they’d be likely to pick Nanook as Scum? I see it as certainly plausible. Assuming the 3 of them were all original Scum, their choice would have come from:
Not picked:
Romanic
Oredigger77
Chipacabra
MHaye
Omi No Kami
Idle Thoughts
Rysto
Their choice was one of the following (still assuming none of them were the choice). I’ve taken the liberty to separate them into groups as I see them
High Quality players with good experience I would be thrilled to have on my Scum team were I scum (which I’m not, sheesh!):

Nanook of the North Shore
GuiriEnEspana (now Tom Scud)

Just back from Moscow, but knackered as have been travelling for 9.5 hours. Also, I have a live poker tournament tomorrow. It’s probably going to be Monday before I can weigh in. Apologies for poor participation toDay everyone.
I don’t agree. I would be far more likely to pick a vocal player like NAF, Ed, Normal Phase or Peeker as a team-mate.
Also I’d pick someone I was pretty sure would be able to talk his/her way out of most situations.
