“to complete their team” seems to imply no more recruiting to me. Story could have written “one more player to add to their team.” Without recruitment I think 4 scum is just ridiculously low no matter how many 3rd, 4th, or even 5th parties there are. I am thinking that Romanic’s slip was not perfect information at all, but mistaken crappy information. I don’t think he’ll be getting my vote toDay.
I’m female. And yes, that’s honestly my perspective, although I see the point that others are making that damn near anyone would have called Romanic on the numbers statement, as it was just that glaring, and that Guiri just so happened to be the first in line. So maybe it really wasn’t that awful, but I think I’ll still consider it a data point in any later review of the Day’s events.
I shortened my quote in your post to get to the relevant portion. I’m planning on getting a head start on toMorrow’s case so more then likely my vote will not stick on Romanic since he will be dead at the end of the Day so would be unsuitable for toMorrow’s case.
You tell us in the first post above that Romanic is a stickler for details, so it doesn’t make any sense for him to say “There. Are. Four. Scum!” in any case. So your second argument doesn’t really read well to me. Why does the fact that he did make this mistake point to him being “not Scum”?
I agree with pretty much everyone that it seems quite unlikely that anybody, with any alignment, would say such a thing at this point in the game. but the fact remains that it was said, so we need to try to figure out the most likely scenario that would lead to someone saying that. I think it is more likely that Romanic knows how many Scum there are and gave that information out by accident, than it is that Romanic has no idea how many Scum there are but decided to state a ‘known number of Scum’ in his post anyway.
Neither scenario seems very plausible at all, but one is even more remote than the other.
I mentioned his attention to detail when playing as mafia. Like most of us who play a lot of games simultaneously, the attention he gives to town roles is rarely so thorough, especially early on.
Looks like everyone’s chimed in toDay, so unvote Natlaw
I’m in a bit of a rush today, so don’t have a lot to say right now. But yeah, it does look like a slip to me. It’s not strong, but it’s about the best we’ve got to go on.
vote Romanic
Oh, I guess I do have one thing to chime in on: 30 players is a big crowd; if only 2 players day each RL week, this game would take too long. So there are almost certainly mechanics in place to kill people off faster. This expands the possible range of size for the scum team; they could be larger than normal if the extra kills tend to hit scum, they could be smaller than normal if the extra kills tend to hit town. We don’t know which way, if either, the game has been adjusted. Point being, just about ANY size of scum team is plausible.
This has seemed very bandwagon-y to me, but then I reviewed the post that Romanic made that kicked it off. In particular:
Aside from PIS, doesn’t this look like Romanic pre-emtping suspicion from himself? It looks like he’s say “Obviously Mrs. McGinty and I and whoever else is new wouldn’t be chosen for Scum.” Except that apparently Romanic is a very experienced player, as those who’ve played with him elsewhere know, and that would make him a good choice if any of those who’ve played with him elsewhere before were randomly-selected Scum. It’s as if he was trying to establish the idea that he and other SDMB Mafia newbies were unlikely Scum candidates.
You do realize that this is a ridiculous defense, right? As town, we all know our own alignment but since no one else does, telling us that you aren’t scum because you are town isn’t helpful at all, nor is it convincing.
Interesting. I originally read that post as you leaving yourself open to jump off the **Romanic **bandwagon if the tide changed.
how does this work? i don’t think i ever played with you either (welcome, by the way). so the universe you come from is where suqirrely comments are indicative of town alignment? i mean do you come from oppositeville?
I meant that Romanic would be well aware just how likely such a mistake would be to get him lynched, and thus that he probably wouldn’t make it if he was really paying attention, which I’d expect him to do as mafia.
Well, I’m a hitchhiker and I can leave this cabin at any time, so you cannot lynch me technically, but you will force me to leave, which is bound to happen soon seeing how you want to throw me into that wood chipper for saying the word “3” in the wrong sentence.
There’s not much point staying around if I am to be a distraction for the Town, and considering that my role is weak, it will come down to me leaving eventually. Again, me saying that there is 3 scums is a fluke coming out of nowhere. I can’t explain it besides that I was convinced there was 3 scums when I made that post.
So unless one of you has a bright idea how I can help, I’m going to write some sentence in bold green, to hit the road and I’ll be gone immediately, making all the votes on me disappear so you’ll be free to find a real scum.
Ok, so just throwing this out there. Lets say that for some reason, Romanic’s win condidtion has something to do with lynch votes for him. Is there any way he could be more guaranteed votes than by acting just the way he is?
Were he a newb, I’d write it off as a newb mistake. But, seeing as he he’s only a newb to sdmb and not so much to mafia, his play might be brilliant. We may be lambs to slaughter.
Not that I’m changing my vote - it’s probably just paranoia.
Ok, ok, you got me. What I had actually typed was “And that right there, is a perfect argument – both for and against – editing of posts, something that scum like me do all the time MUAHAHAHA!!”.
Errr…in case anyone things I was being serious there, I wasn’t.
