With the scum roleblocker dead, the odds of a false negative go down considerably, I would think, so I support this idea.
It’s only being suggested to post it 30 seconds before the action deadline, if you do. No one would have time to change anything.
The (A?) Scum blocker is dead, but they might still have a redirector. However, if there is a redirector, he/she can redirect Idle regardless of whether Idle is announcing his target. (I.e. if the power is to redirect Idle onto another target, rather than to redirect actions from the target to someone else.)
Game mechanics question: if a player re-directs from a target to someone else, does the original target know about it if an action is actually redirected? That is to say, if X redirects from Y to Z, and some action is directed at Y, does Y know that s/he was the original target but was prevented? I don’t remember reading a game where there was a redirector present, but judging from the way most doctors seem to work, the original target will not know unless s/he had other means of finding out (such as Watching), right?
That’s up to the game designer. Typically the player is not told that they are redirected(with the exception of investigative roles, who are usually told who their investigation actually hit). However I helped run a game where players were told if they were redirected(but that game had a crazy number of powers and something like 3 full-time roles with some kind of redirection ability, and at least one player with a one-shot redirection).
So does Day begin at the normal time?
Thanks, Rysto.
I’m hopeful there wouldn’t be a mafia redirector in a game with lots of vanillas (fewer townie powers implies fewer/less strong mafia powers, and redirectors are pretty damn strong).
The question is whether Idle announcing his target exposes us to an unacceptably-high risk of false negative. As a hypothetical, assuming peeker was still around:
Idle announces he’s about to touch Storyteller. Unbeknownst to him, scum roleblocker peeker had already sent in orders to block Idle, while another scum killed Idle. In the morning, Idle is dead; Storyteller is unmarked. Now, is Storyteller a Deadite or not? We might assume that he is not, since he is unmarked. Even granting this doesn’t make him innocent, there’s still the possibility that at some point down the line we may have reason to believe that all remaining anti-town ARE deadites, which would let Storyteller off the hook, but for the (invisible to us) roleblock. False negative, potentially.
With the (probably THE) scum roleblocker dead, I’m confident enough that a negative result will mean what it should mean (not a deadite) to say Idle should name his target if he can, pending the results of the recent questions. (If he’s not around, he’s not around.)
Neither.
Resolution follows a specific, prespecified order that is the same for every Day and every Night. Submission order is entirely irrelevant.
According to Story, nIght ends at 3:00PM today. I would assume that’s eastern time.
I’m almost afraid to answer this, because there might be some unusual set of circumstances creating an exception.
So here’s your answer:
With possible limited exceptions, yes, all Night actions are successful unless blocked.
oh, yes, that had slipped my mind. it does change things considerably.
For the record: in the previous game the investigation happened even though the scum got killed by one of the serial killers.
I think in Storyteller’s games only a role block (or exceptional circumstances) would stop Idle’s claimed power.
With the Scum role-blocker gone, it does seem that the odds on a false positive (from Idle’s ‘investigation’) do go down quite a bit. There is still the possibility of a redirector, but based on Idle’s PM from Yesterday, he should know if he was redirected. There’s also the possibility of a 3rd-party role-blocker, but I don’t know how likely that is.
I understand Idle is reluctant to name his target before Dawn. But if he is able to do so, he could name his target* immediately after* the Dawn post. Yesterday, the end-of-Night PMs did not go out until after Dawn; if this holds true then it would have the same effect as naming the target immediately *before *dawn, but without the possibility of any nasty side-effects.
Except the nasty side effect of Idle getting killing the normal way which was the entire point of revealing it before Dawn.
Um the idea is to post his target in the event he gets Night killed. He can’t post after the Day has started if he’s dead! :smack:

Never mind.

I’m gonna go have another cup of coffee before I post again.
I think the reveal looks like a safe-enough calculated risk, Idle.
One hour left until Dawn, which will occur on time at 3:00PM EST.
Well in case I’m dead I just want to say I agree with the case on Suburban. Wanted to expand on that, but couldn’t find the time.
