Explosions at Boston Marathon

CBS is reporting that a Saudi national is being questioned. According to the reporter, this person was seen near the bombings and ran away after the bombs went off. Someone tackled him and brought him to the police. He’s being questioned at a hospital and is denying all involvement.

I don’t know if you’re deliberately acting like a jerk or it’s just the byproduct of you being yourself, but I strongly recommend that you leave politics out of this MPSIMS thread. If you’ve got an agenda, start something in GD.

That goes for everyone else as well. This thread is for expressing shock and sorrow, not refighting old political arguments.

I’ve heard that there will be another press conference at 7 PM Eastern - can anyone confirm that?

BPD said they are questioning a lot of witnesses, to find out if they had seen something that could be useful to the investigation.

Doesn’t matter what color you are, if something explodes near to you, which way would you run?

I see a report that the Boston police commissioner will speak again at 7, yes.

Yes, that was stated at the end of the first press conf.

Thanks, Marley! I appreciate it.

ETA - And River Hippie.

Listening to the news, they spoke with someone who was close to the bomb. Apparently the runner they were there to see had a cramp and was delayed and thus not there when the bomb went off. Since this runner ‘never has cramps’ they declared it was God watching over them. This sort of stuff just pisses me off. God saved your loved one? So that means he was a-ok with everyone else dying? That young girl had to die because God decided it?

How long until some assh*le calls it the “Boston Massacre”? I truly don’t understand what someone could gain by doing this kind of act.

The idiot theists always do this.

Whenever something good happens to them/their loved ones, it’s God’s love and protection. Apparently God is too busy saving white privileged Christians to much care about starving black children in Africa.

It’s all over the TV networks and web and we’re all talking and tweeting about it, right? That’s the baseline of the “gain”.

Just heard it on CNN. All I can think is of the Newtown families sitting in VIP seating. I’m sure it’s not one of theirs, but o much young death. :frowning:

Pretty much a natural reaction for most people.
CBS Radio was reporting that BPD has a boatload of ‘suspicious’ bags in the area; mainly pocketbooks & clothes bags that people dropped as they ran away. My guess is 99+% turn out to be nothing, but I understand that they gotta check 'em all.

I know they do but it pisses me off every time. I think what really irritates me is the underlying idea that the person who was saved was better than someone who died, or more deserving of life or some shit. It just makes it that much harder on those who lost a loved one.

Didn’t take long.

A Boston massacre was the headline chosen by the blog for the Greensboro News & Record.

PolicyMic and TheModerateVoice used that phrase too.

I just can’t believe what I’m reading right now… its just horrific. :frowning: My condolences to the citizen of Boston.

Of course. I was just passing on everything I heard at that point. In my opinion that makes it sound more likely that it’s a random guy and not a bomber, but we’ll see.

Is that really what you think they mean to imply? Do you not rather suppose that they are expressing their relief and gratitude that a loved one, who was in a very perilous position, was able to come out okay? Do you think that in their ecstatic relief, they may not have the ability to philosophize on the fly in the way you seem to wish? Do basic human emotions really confound you this much? Or did you see an opening to ride once again a favored hobbyhorse?

Just as I don’t want political arguments in this thread, I don’t want theological arguments either. Take it to GD.

ETA: Meant to include both posts that were trying to stir up that argument.

I don’t think it does much good to bring religion into this at this point, but hey, I’m not a mod.
