Explosions at Boston Marathon

If the suspect on the ground is wearing a turquoise colored shirt, it matches what the NBC reporter said he saw.

I can’t say whether that’s his page or someone else with the same name, but it doesn’t appear to have been recently faked. Everything on the list was added in 2006 or 2007.

ABC News is now running (nationwide) an interview with someone who wrestled with Dzhokhar in high school who starts off by saying, “I didn’t know him well.”

 They’re throwing anything at the screen to fill time at this point.

He kind of modified the “losers” comment at the end by saying he was talking about terrorists in general and not his nephews. But I did enjoy the hell out of that interview/tirade and the emphasis on terrorists being losers. He emphasized that these guys had no firsthand experience with anything that happened in Chechnya because they weren’t born there and never lived there.

Gotta love that uncle.

What are they talking about on that Reddit stream? An old man with a vest being examined by an explosive team robot?

Younger brother certainly had the face of an angel, didn’t he? But it sounds like he may have been a bit of a loose cannon.

A woman spokesman for NPR in Boston - sorry I didn’t catch her name - said on MPR that she had hosted her daughter’s graduating class for a prom party and unbeknownst to her he was among her guests. She couldn’t place him at first until she was reminded, “Remember, he was the kid in the car?”

Seems he had gotten in an automobile and floored it driving backwards down their one-way street. Then again maybe that passes for totally normal and American these days because I don’t know.

Mods…any chance of getting the two MPSIMS threads merged or both locked and a single thread started?

That sounds like the kind of stupid stunt a teenage boy might pull, especially if he was insecure and trying to showoff. Not exactly normal but not totally off the map.

I’m waiting for the day when Lester Holt (or some other reporter) is standing on a street corner, reporting about the search for the crazed gunman, when suddently the crazed gunman steps out of the building behind Lester and shoots both him and the cameraman.

If that Amazon wishlist really is Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s. then it’s rather revealing, and backs up the “loser” comments.

Books on Chechnya (understandable I suppose, given his background), an obsession with the Mafia, the decline and fall of the Roman empire, guides to forging ID… but also How to Win Friends and Influence People, and voice coaching guides.

Then again, it almost looks too perfect a “psycho’s shopping list”, so maybe it’s not real? Although the items were added 6-7 years ago. Is Tamerlan a common name in that region? I guess it might be, given the the historic significance.

Yes, they had 4 robots removing his jacket. He was seen with a trigger-like device in his hand. EOD just gave the all clear and EMS is moving in.

Adrien Chen (Gawker)has posted a link to the suspect at larges actual Twitter account. Looks way more legit than the ones reported on previously.

I agree. Too hard to follow both.

That Uncle’s impromptu press conference was awesome.

I’m guessing that the old man was just some poor guy wearing a (non-explosive) vest or something with a cellphone or something in his hand.

I know, I said in the other thread, it’s about as close to a clichéd “psycho’s shopping list” as you could get, but I don’t think you can fake the dates. How many Tamerlans are there with an interest in Chechnya? It might be a common name, given its significance in Central Asian history.

The aunt of the young men has been on public radio twice this morning claiming that her generation had been exiled from Chechnya as Nazi collaborators and that they were born in Kyrgyzstan. “They are good Christian boys.”

Yeah, he didn’t hold back his opinion.

“They are LOSERS!”

Well Tamerlan at least identified himself as a “very religious” Muslim in that boxing photo story.
