Extra napkins in the MMP

My Fridge lasted about 17 years and was still working Ok when I replaced it. So yeah, 4 years is pretty short. And lots of stuff work better when you turn them off and restart them, Computers, refrigerators, spidey…

Tru-Green is here spraying the lawn with all sorts of chemicals for which I pay them a goodly sum of money each year. Sometimes I think it would be cheaper just to paint the lawn green each year…

Need to head out to the store and my usual Monday lunch (they know me so well at the JJ’s that they ring up my order son as I come in).

Makes you wonder.

Juliet - I don’t upgrade for looks. I’m of the use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without mindset.
I think that translates to cheap.

So I was on hold with the IRS for over a half hour only to find out I owe them $100.16.
I have no idea how they came up with that figure, but it is a hell of a lot better than what the letter says.
I just don’t understand their math, but I’m glad I called before I wrote a check for the full amount.

blurfage Irking on my day off cause I am backed up from doing clerk duties all last week. I think I shall try to have Thursday and Firday off since I had over ten hours of comp time last period. I had to reschedule my car service appointment from Wed of this week til Wed of next week due to a managers meeting on Wed. I am trying to reach my hairdresser to get my hairs done.
Too much going on right now.

well stay away from sears …cause their warranties/repair are going downhill fast………just went through a 3 month ordeal trying to get it fixed ……apparently at some point a part didn’t come in and the guy just ghetto rigged it together and burnt up the wiring and just about every part the thing had

So when the local guy that picked up the repair job came in he spent the last 6 weeks trying to get parts to get it fixed …. the last time we waited 3 weeks for a part to finish it cause it was back ordered

Sears idea ? buy the no name generic off of ebay………. which on our violates the warranty its self ……
Sso yeah theres several unprintable thoughts about sears around here

Sari, I’m with you, too. I’m not one to upgrade just because I don’t like the look of something. That said, when I do upgrade, I’m totally taking the look and features into account. I’m not just going to get the cheapest option and hope it lasts. When I replaced my dishwasher, there were two models we liked, but one only came in stainless steel… not my jam. If I’m going to replace something, I want to replace it with something that has a good number of bells and whistles and looks good so I’m current for a little while at least.

However, when I remodel my kitchen in a few years, I will probably replace everything, or almost everything. We’ll get a gas line brought up to the kitchen for a gas stove/oven, so we’ll have to replace the electric one. The fridge, if it lasts, will be close to 20 years old at that point. The dishwasher might stick around, since it’ll only be about 10 years old at that point.

Practice was fun. Made a mesquite chicken and cheddar sadwich for lunch. Now time for work.

Are you constantly besieged by slugs or something? :dubious:

Wish that worked for Gordie.

Howdy Y’all! I have spiffed da cave and ‘tis now all cleanded and sanitary. Well, at least you wouldn’t catch anything a good antibiotic couldn’t clear right up. In a while I shall head on over to the church house. Of course I shall have to don goin’ about the public clothin’ dangit!

In sadder news, my cousin Larry, think I mentioned him last week, died last night. I’ll miss him but glad he’s no longer dealin’ with AD. He is bein’ cremated today. No service or anything as that’s the way he wanted it to be.

((((Swampy))))) Condolences on cousin Larry.
Irking. That is all.

It’s been a week and a half since they started working on the house. To recap:
[ul][li]10x40 travel trailer was built onto the house with three walls, a roof, and a passageway between its front door and a side door on the house.[/li][li]Trailer and surrounding structure were demolished.[/li][li]The roof of the house was damaged at a valley where the passageway once stood.[/li][li]One side of the roof over the back bedroom and laundry room, plus the perpendicular roof that formed the valley I mentioned, need replacement.[/li][li]May as well replace the (now-) exterior door while they’re at it.[/ul][/li]So our contractor, Daniel, came out with a couple of guys. It turns out that whoever built the roof used ship lath instead of plywood. It wasn’t in great condition, so the whole side of the roof needed to by pulled up leaving just the rafters. This took a long time, and there were a zillion nails that had to be pulled. Of course as soon as the roof was off, it started raining. I knew it would, as I’ve noticed that whenever it turns September, the nine-month rainy season starts. So that caused a delay. They eventually finished the roof, and even repaired the hole in the back bedroom where one of the workers stepped through the ceiling. Now to replace the door…

The guy who did the work in the '70s did a poor job. Water got into the walls of the house where the passageway was. Lots of rot. They’ve been working on that for almost a week… slowly. Daniel is leaving his guys to do the work while he does other jobs. These guys are so slow that I think I could have had the job done by now – and I’m not a carpenter! To be fair, the support beams need attention; nevertheless, I still think I could do it faster and just as well. They take off the door and frame, work on the side of the house, put up the door and frame, put up tarps, and repeat the next day.

Today is a glorious sunny day. It’s a great day for Daniel and his crew to work inside someone else’s house putting down floors. They’ll be back tomorrow when it’s raining. Daniel hopes the whole job will be done Wednesday.

{{{Swampy}}}

Not getting much done today. Hard to stay focused when one gets only 4 hours of sleep.

It’s windy and rainy outside. I sat out with Ripple for a bit. He sure likes to dig in the mud.

Juliet, I don’t like all the bells and whistles on my appliances, although I think a lot of them are cool. One of my friends got the cadillac of fridges recently, it’s got everything. Kind of cool I guess, but way too much money. For just my son and me all we need is to store stuff in there, and there isn’t very much in there to start with.

My friend always gets the latest and greatest, which is always confusing to me because she wants to live in a tiny house and be a minimalist. I think she is crazy for wanting a tiny house, I think they are for the young, agile, and skinny, and she is none of those.

When I lived in L.A. I was amused by all of the not-entirely-young, very overweight women who drove Miatas.

Sari, I don’t necessarily need all the bells and whistles, but I’ll cop to being a tech geek. I like new, fun technology. Like, we’re replacing our furnace and it was a no-brainer for me to upgrade to a smart thermostat. After a Focus on Energy rebate, it only costs me $25 more, and I can sync it with my phone, control it with Alexa, etc. I like that. But do I need a fridge that will show me what’s inside by tapping the front? No. I don’t necessarily need a Cadillac appliance, but I still want something nice.

I could go with a smart thermostat, although that is what my son is for.

What I would love, height of laziness here, is remote controlled window blinds. And a central vacuum.

Lovely situation here.

My son took an exam, online, yesterday. The exam is open for three days until tomorrow. One of his classmates sent him (and a few others) an email asking if he took it yet. He, and I, thought it was maybe because of the wrong answers on the exam. Instead she sent back, how was it and what does it cover?

Not cool.

One, the syllabus tells them what is on it, and two, he is not about to give out any information. I thought he should ignore her but he sent back that he thought the test was easy but that he would not give her any information about it.

I cannot believe somebody would ask total strangers, in a school email, about a test.

Strikes me as inappropriate.

**{{{swampy and the bear family}}}

sari**, suggest to your friend wanting the tiny house to live in a 500 square foot apartment for a year or two. That will put you in the mindset that for every item that comes in, one must go.

I did the laundry, vaccuumed and finished striaightening up the studio this afternoon. Then I fixed poke chops smothered in onions and apples, rice and German steamed cabage for supper. Tonight, I’m going to work on something short and fun in the studio. Not sure what, but I’ll find something.

For some reason she thinks life will be easier in a tiny house. One that she can tow around to different places. I told her to park a camper in her driveway and live in it for a few months.
I get it though, she has been through a lot in the last few years, and is still going through a lot of it. I think she just wants to escape.

When I watch the tiny house shows I feel like I can’t breathe.
However, when I think about it, my son would do quite well in one.

I’ve been telling **FCD **that the kitchen drain was running slow. No more - it’s completely clogged. I offered to go get a snake - he thought he could clear it without one. Yeah… I found a local plumber and he’ll call tomorrow.

So that’s been our evening. I blame Trump.

So, I bought more chairs. :stuck_out_tongue: But, but, these were *dining room chairs *, not wingback chairs. They are part of my very early Christmas present which also includes the rest of the materials needed to make my dining room table.

So now I have 11 art projects to keep me busy for the winter!

I am still somewhat sick and thoroughly tired of it.

Home from men’s night over to the church house. Had a bigger than usual crowd so had to bring out more plates and forks and even had to go into the “reserve” stash of steak knives. “Reserve” meanin’ the drawer in the kitchen no one but me hardly ever opens. A few years back a bunch of steak knives went missin’ for some reason. They got replaced and I bought a few more for the “reserve” drawer just in case. I don’t think anyone purposefully took any of the knives but rather they got thrown in the trash over time.

Thanks Y’all for the condolences. I’ll miss Larry but he’s in a much better place now.

swampy, add my condolences to the list; you and OYKW stay healthy now, y’hear?

Sticky Buns, if you’re so sick and tired of it, why keep buying stuff to do?

FCM, Plumbing is one thing I immediately call for help on. I can turn the water for the house off and on, but outside of that you won’t find me buried under the sink trying to fix something.

Sari, can’t imagine being in a small house. I’m living in 60% of mine (maybe about 1000 sq. ft.) and find myself cramped. Living in half that space…well, different strokes.

I concur with your son’s response to the test questioner, think he was diplomatic about it. Interesting if he gets a response from her…

Soccer practice went well, showed the girls my picture as a soccer player in High school (1971), not sure if they were impressed or amused. Mickey’s provided dinner and chillage will now commence.
