I sat out with Ripple for a bit. I put him out and then decided to go outside for a bit. I love the look on his face when he comes back from his patrol around the yard and sees me sitting there.
It’s so easy to make a dog happy.
I woke too early again, 4am, and couldn’t get back to sleep. I got a short nap in and feel a whole lot better. We’re getting ready to mow the front postage stamp. The back jungle needs a good whacking too.
Another one of my son’s classmates sent an email asking what is on the exam. He ignored it.
metal mouse, was the pig on a leash and everything? My late aunt had two ducks once who were leash trained. It was fun to watch people’s expressions when you walked them.
I’m home today and am now feeling halfway human. Last night, I mistakenly injected the day time insulin instead of the night time (the difference is that the night time is slow release so that you inject enough that usually does me until the next evening. The day time is in case my blood glucose spikes when I test before meals and meant to be taken in much smaller doses). I caught it immediately and ate a couple of squares of chocolate, called the ask-a-nurse who told me to call poison control. Poison control told me to test every half hour for four hours and get to the hospital if it went below 90. I hit the ER an hour after the injection.
They monitored me for a few hours, fed me junk meant to raise my sugar and sent me home. Today, my sugar has been all over the map and I’ve felt pretty raw, so I called out of irk. Nelson has been a regular [del]pest[/del] lap puppy since I’ve been feeling puny, but has now consented to lay down in the bed in the studio to supervise.
In other news, the mobile neighbor has now left her third apartment in my building in four months. She initially moved into the apartment that backs up to mine. At the time, she had a three year old and was about to pop with another baby. She had a boyfriend with a big red truck who spent most of his time there. Right before the baby was born, she raised some sand with management about some issue with that apartment and was moved next door to me. This time, she brought a different boyfriend with her. Right after the baby was born, she was gone but he stayed and still lives there. A few weeks later, she moved in with the guy two doors down from me. Last night, as Nelson and I were out for the last walk of the evening, she was setting her things out on the patio and taking them to her car and screeching at him about being a crazy !@#$er. Now that she’s out of single guys in our building, I wonder if she’ll start on building 11?
כאָלערע – me parrot slipped on the ice, ya’ll.
Other than that generally adulting. Bailed out of our one annual colonial festival today so now the weekend is suddenly mostly free.
Avast me mateys! The layin’ in of provisions be accomplished and I have sailed the man of war across the seven seas! OK, I got groceries and spent some time on a float in the cee-mint pond. We shall sup upon jambalaya as that is the inspiration I got whilst in the Pubic Sto’.
Red, yeah, the pig was leashed and all, and apparently likes people, she came right over to the fence to the kids. Not a ‘pot-belly’ as was the fad years ago, just your average normal pig.
And hope you’re feeling better; one of my nephews has diabetes and takes insulin, I worry that with his busy life (he just got a bloodhound puppy) he might not keep it in check.
92F today, it just doesn’t seem to want to cool down.
Both plumbers and tilers are in the house, the remodeler says we’ll be done by Friday, except for bits and pieces. We’ll see. Went mirror-shopping at Home Depot, have a couple in mind but didn’t make a final selection.
I have a couple of games for soccer practice I can adopt for pirates and might do so to keep the kiddos amused.
Sari, word must have gotten around that Sah-son is getting good grades, so folks figure they can sponge off him. More fools they.
doggio, wasn’t sure if you were jesting or not, but I’m a Kipling fan too; given the work I did for 30 years, I’m particularly fond of “Pharaoh and the Sergeant”
Midget, I’ve found it is the little things that make me feel the best about life and myself.
OK, need to go wander over yonder and see how work is progressing…
Almost done with another day. My generic DayQuil is wearing off and I’m getting all congested again. But I only have an hour left of the day.
Thinking about doing breakfast for dinner tonight. The kids love it, and it’s freaking easy. I’ve got strawberries that are going soft, so I think we’ll have strawberry pancakes and hard boiled eggs. (Yes, my kids prefer hard boiled eggs to scrambled. They’re odd little people.) And I’m going to have a big ole cup of tea to soothe my throat.
Getting a bit grumpy again too.
Just blocked from seeing a friend’s posts on FB because she was posting Christmas shit. In September? I don’t want to see that shit already.
One feature I want in my next fridge is non-spill over shelves. I don’t want touch screens, or an ice maker, or a water dispenser. The water here tastes awful and making it cold or frozen isn’t going to change that. Keeping stuff from dripping into the crisper drawers? That is worth the money.
I’m going to get a stainless steel tray to put on the bottom shelf. I always put meat on a plate in case of leaks. I never thought a bag of shrimp would leak.
We sprayed the wasp’s nest today since it is not so breezy. Should have made the dog stay inside, I had no idea the stuff would drip so much or that so many wasps would hit the ground.
Red Nelson is a very good boy. Very. Extra skritches. It sounds like you could teach him to be a blood sugar alert dog. I’ve been talking to people about training medical service dogs, and one person I talked to spent time telling me about the procedure teaching for blood sugar alerts. If you’re interested, we could discuss more.
I have chosen my puppy. Now I just have to figure out this whole Florida to here thing.
We should be leaving Oregon soon. I got my dental implant finished up today. Housecleaners are doing the last pass today. We’ll load up the RV and hit the road probably tomorrow. I’ll really miss it, but the weather makes me sick as a dog. Maybe we can visit in the summers.
ETA: Juliet feel better. Any chance you can put the kids down early or let them watch some extra tv or something, so you can get some rest? Being a parent with little kids when you’re sick is soooo hard.
We got the truck back, to the tune of around $350. Something was snacking on wires. We had a similar issue with our van some years back. **FCD **decided if SIL drives the truck to school twice a week, plus he takes it to the convenience center, that should be enough driving to keep critters out. I hope.
My mom is home - I’ll call her a little later. Other than that, nothing is going to happen tonight. Chillage shall ensue.
metal mouse, your nephew may actually be in better control of his diabetes with a pup. I know that moving around more helps with the control of mine.
Juliet and sari, feel better soon!
sunny, the lap puppy thing is whenever I feel like crap for whatever reason. He tends to sense that I’m not feeling well and is a cuddle buddy. I like that. I do have a friend who adopted a wash out from guide dog school though and Max is really good about alerting her to low blood glucose episodes. In all liklihood, he can smell the ketone changes when that happens.
I’m pretty much leveled out on the sugar now. I should be ready for irk again tomorrow. Thanks for the hugs and good thoughts!
Sari, last go-around we got a fridge with a built-in filter on the water dispenser 'cause our water tastes like crap here too. If you do that though, you need to research first to see how much the filters cost. They can be bloody expensive. And don’t buy filters from China. They’re crap.
Made a batch of soap today and finished sanding the canister lid I turned on the lathe. It’s got it’s first coat of verathane on now. Turns out it was Walnut, not Elm burl. It’s been out in the garage so long it was practically black and I couldn’t really tell.
Ordered 2 mirrors for the Bathroom from Home Depot, they should be in next week. Tilers put in the backsplash for the kitchen and need to come back to finish the grouting, but except for the second coat of paint, we’re pretty much done except for the clean-up. Carpet in the Master Bedroom is due to go in on the 27th and I hope to be sleeping in my (non-spare) bed by next Firday.
If you’re thinking about doing this, it’s going to take longer than you think and things will not go according to plan. But if you’re lucky (and I think I have been), you’ll get something nice out of it.
Juliet, I sometimes do that meal thing backward and have hamburgers for breakfast…
Sunny, wish I could help on the Florida dog trek, but I’m 400+ miles from the border.
Only had two kids that could make soccer practice and they are 6 years old and it was 93F at 4:30PM…so I cancelled practice, which I think was the wise choice. Rewarded myself for such intelligence by going to Olive Garden.
Had a recreation managers meeting with my boss and the new Director and other managers. I think the new guy is a breath of fresh air and hopefully he will work out great. Our outgoing Director is a nice guy but he mentally checked out years ago. We shall see in time.
I am off tomorrow and have an appt to get my hair done at 10am so hopefully I will be done with that no later than noon. I have a big pork roast I’m gonna cook up and plan to watch a movie or three.
Red so glad you’re back to normal. That must have been very scary.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and dark, with a predicted high of 96 and N.O.S. for the day. Again, we are havin’ August in September down this way. No biggie plans for the day which is fine by me. Some stuff needs doin’ so I either will or won’t. A willy-nilly sorta day!
Hope all you sickies are feelin’ better today. Juliet you have inspired me. We shall sup today by breakin’ fast. Haven’t done that in a long time.
MOOOOOOM glad your mom is home and doin’ good.
OK, I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day!
