Yesterday there was a very nice surprise in my mailbox when I got home: I got one of the first Virginia tax rebates, which I hadn’t known about! A $200 check out of the blue!

I’m in the office today because I have an in-person interview in a little while; a possible new employee for me. It’s a panel interview, with my boss and another member of the team who’ll work very closely with the person hired for this position. We phone-screened him last week, but want to see how he is in person. I think we’re the only three people who aren’t working remotely today. :joy:

I got to go to lunch with my boss: she wound up with a big enough hole in her schedule – all but unheard of – and asked if I’d be up for going to a local Thai place. I’d just talked about Thai food with some other coworkers yesterday afternoon! Heh! The food was good, and it was nice to spend some time with my boss outside of the office for the first time since I was hired 6 months ago. I like her a lot; I feel very lucky to have found this job.

After the interview my boss and I have another meeting together, but I should be able to head home NLT 5pm. I’m looking forward to some downtime tonight and tomorrow, even though it’s still kind of hard to be in the house alone (I can’t believe that Bailey’s been gone for two weeks already). On Sunday afternoon my father and brother are coming over, and we’ll go to Olive Garden for my belated birthday lunch. My car is too low for Dad to get in/out of comfortably, so I’ll drive us in his car; the restaurant is only 2 miles from my house. They’ll be driving separately and I suppose we could all just meet at OG, but neither of them has been to my place in ages and it won’t kill them to come inside for a minute.

Woo hoo! :tada:

One of the things I like about my credit union is you can transfer funds between accounts online. You have to set it up, and you can never see the details of the other person’s account (balance, etc.), but it comes in very handy when my father wants to give money to my brother/me – and the few times I’ve given money to my brother.

I still have a scar from my cat, Smokey, who died in 2004.

Awww!!!

Fun story.

Ha! :joy:

Have a great trip!

I just sold a fishing boat canopy frame and I’m pretty sure I grossly underpriced it. I had no idea - I listed it at $60 figuring I’d take $50. I’m thinking now I could have gotten $200 easy. Dammit. But it’s out of the yard, so there’s that.

Laundry is done. My poor legs got et up while waiting for the guy to load the frame in his truck - itchies ensue. It’s just after 3 and I have no idea what we’ll do for supper. No hankerin’, no inspiration. Just dunno…

Well,2 hours of training so far. I see I am scheduled for a 10-4 shift on the 8th.
So my entire pay for October will be 130.

I can do that as well, only I transferred the funds into a different (‘shared branch’) credit union. You have to show up in person to do that.

So, yeah… After the X-rays and an hour back at home to make and eat a sausage-over-easy egg-and-cheese breakfast burrito (with Tabasco instead of Tapatio this time), I headed down to the credit union. I got off the freeway in north-ish Bellingham and went to Fred Meyer for some eggs, Sara Lee Delightful Multi-Grain bread, some margarine, and a couple more pieces of lamb.

At Trader Joe’s I bought more cheese, of course. Mrs. L.A. likes their macadamia nuts, so I bought three bags. (I like them too.) And rye, brandy, and gin; the missing ingredients to Vieux Carré cocktails or negronis. Back up to Costco (which is across the street from Fred Meyer) for a tray of garlic pesto salmon. What the heck. As long as I was there, I bought a rotisserie chicken for $4.99, why not? I put the chicken into a baking dish and covered it, and put it into the oven at 220º Ferret Height to keep warm until dinner. I think we have some asparagus in the fridge.

Mrs. L.A. invited one of the banner-hanging people to dinner tomorrow. I decided we’re having garlic pesto salmon. It’s dead easy. Preheated 400º oven, pop the uncovered tray into it, and bake for 25 minutes. I got a block of rather hard Parmigiano-Reggiano out of the fridge. I’ll grate some of it with a microplane grater to make fettuccine alfredo for a side. (I had to look to see if it was fettuccine or spaghetti in the cupboard. It’s the former, very thin.) I should make a veg. I’ll have to see what’s n the freezer.

Regular gas at the Lummi station was $3.799/gallon today. I kept going to my Birch Bay exit and refuelled at Arco for $3.899 (credit price). The tank cost me an extra 71¢, but it was worth it for the convenience.

The cats’ gooshy food is out of the fridge so that I on’t offend their delicate sensibilities with cold gooshy food.

Afternoon all. Spent a couple hours sweating at the gym and gassed up car, then came home and the soccer fields are open so will head out in about an hour to yell at 11 year olds for an hour, then head back home to my big bowl O’Sallit tonight. Coach games tomorrow at 8am and 10am and referee at 12:30pm so a pretty full Saturday on tap.
Temperature in 76F and there is still a chance of rain but looking like we may get through the day without further precipitation.

What, pray tell? Work or Supervisors? And yay! for lovely people who know how to troubleshoot. And gift cards are always appreciated (I think).

flyboy, wonder is that you can do as much power walking as you do with knees like that. Hope the Docs can do something to help.

rose, enjoy Spain (and I presume your walking tour). I’ll be on a cruise along the Spanish coast next April and am looking forward to it.

Oopsie, some unexpected money is always nice. Hope the interview went well. Enjoy dinner with the family.

FCM, at least the item is gone and you have money.

Coppertone, hope it all continues to go well.

And need to transform into Assistant Coach-Man so catch y’all later.

LOL, superb, as ever. But this was the pinnacle:

as already noted by our beloved boo! And boo, I hope you get your wish for a tiara instead of two crowns. It sounds brutal.

lily, happy travels! Stay safe, will you, please? (What am I saying? You’re probably safer in Spain right now than here…)

Ooofff, you are afflicted with this far worse than I am. I’m glad you’ve found some useful relief!

Re Muffin, I am so happy to hear how she’s coming along. You’ve had incredible patience and it has paid dividends I didn’t think were possible. Kudos to you!

swampy, thanks for the kind wishes on my new fiber optic cable – you’re going to love it when you get yours, too. I’m so looking forward to getting rid of expensive satellite tee vee and copper wire phones. As expensive as it was to lay the cable down my ridiculously long driveway, I’ll recoup those costs within a year and a half.

I do also do this when I shower, which is every other day since I stopped having to go to an office. Once I learned what the problem was, it made good sense.

I dream of this happening. In a wishful way. You are pure inspiration!

I know!! < skip, frolic, cavort! > I have so much to sort out. But it will be worth it in the end.

Best wishes to everyone for a pleasant, restful evening.

Thanks! Yes, I have a week-long academic extension course, then I’ll walk the last part of the Portuguese Camino. We’ve looked at some nice cruises along the northern Mediterranean. Which cruise line?

I don’t actually power-walk. I just try to average 3 mph over 2.5 miles.

Here’s the last part of the report from the doctor that reviewed the X-rays. My PA hasn’t reviewed the report yet:

Impression:

  1. Right: Severe right knee osteoarthritis. KL score 4. Moderate joint effusion with
    intact distal femur fixation hardware.
  2. Left: Mild left knee osteoarthritis. KL score 2. Left patella alta.

My left knee feels fine. If I had a tendon holding my patella where it should be, it would be great.

The church down the street had their monthly meal. It was the eagerly awaited ( by me) spaghetti and meatballs.
They gave me a lot to take home.
My favorite meal.
Chilling with library books.
Its supposed to be 76 all weekend.

Howdy Y’all! Been a rainy day which is great weather for RDOS inactivities. We watched stuff on Netflix and Brit Box, achieved nappage and day drank. Sup was exceptionally good if’n I do say so myself. We will have the leftovers Sunday. Tomorrow we are goin’ to our favorite Mexican place for lunch due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’. It’s supposed to be rainy early on, but go away late mornin’, so we may have a ramble as well. My DAWGS don’t play until seven-thirty p.m. so I shall need to be entertained until then.

Slow, easy day. the sheets are washed and changed, more pics up and most of the Thanksgiving cards cut, colored and ready for assembly. Things are beginning to come together.

I was going to make the rest of the asparagus to have with the Costco chicken; but I forgot it’s Friday, and Mrs. L.A. went down to Bellingham to support the rights of immigrants. The display runs from 16:30 to 17:30. I’ll make the asparagus, if she wants some, when she gets home. Otherwise, I’ve cut up the chicken. It’s back in the oven keeping warm. I did grate the parm for the fett.

I mentioned that I hope the woman she invited over tomorrow likes salmon. She says she’ll have to ask her at the overpass demonstration.

I’m feeling snacky. I could have dinner now (it’s not even five), but I had some cashews and a tin of smoked oysters (with carrot chips, onion, and a nice chile pepper – I’ll have to go back to the ‘dollar’ store).

Whoever edited the trashy novel I’m reading should be fired. First off, missing the use of effected where it should have been affected - flogging offense. Then gross overuse of “He (or she) blew a long breath” - unless it’s a story of recovering asthmatics?

Non-book related - I’ll be back in tool-handing mode tomorrow. Till then, back to my trashy novel.

I’m baaaack!

The parts arrived late this evening and everything is up and running now. I’m so happy it wasn’t a software problem, hardware is mostly plug and play nowadays. There are some updates running behind the scenes but I’m not going to be on long. It’s late and I’ve been doing things all day.

The most irritating thing is that I only learned this recently. I’ve had issues with watery eyes for as long as I can remember, it took my current eye doctor to recommend hot compresses. The others just recommended lubricating eye drops. Grumbles.

But…Hubs, who is five years older than me had his eyes dilated for the first time ever a month ago. He mentioned that they were going to dilate them, I offered to drive and he said it would be OK all nonchalant and stuff. When he got home he was all !!! about it and confessed that had he known what it was like, he would have wanted me to drive home.

More grumbles.

Have a lovely trip!

Gift cards are always a good gift. I’ve always had good results with grocery store cards and that was back when I was working and groceries were affordable.

Four apples :sob:

Watching hockey, having a Sidecar with wasabi soy catfish, green tea ginger rice, and stir fried bok cho, onions, and 'shrooms. Spot is snoozing.

Ouch.

:grimacing:
Hopefully you can get some more shifts.

Yay!

Yeah, just had to replace my speakers. Took more time to do cable management than to get them working.

The Lot on the Corner

Years ago, there was a little house on the corner. (There’s a single-wide between it and our stick-built house.) I never saw any people there, but I did call the sheriff’s office to report an alarm going off once. It was eventually sold to a Canadian, and the house was torn down. Then came COVID. The lot sat, being overgrown with invasive blackberry bushes. Recently, there has been a real estate sign on the property; and more recently, the lot was being cleaned up.

There was a free ladder (and other stuff) at the street, so my wife and I went to investigate. It turned out that the ladder was broken, so The Missus went home. I decided to tell the guy working on the lot how good it looks. His name is Ti (spelling guessed), and lives in Everett. Seems like a nice guy. I welcomed him to the neighbourhood. He said that after he cleaned up the lot, he’ll look at house orientation and maybe build a house in a couple of years.

So anyway… SWMBO said we’re going to the Lutheran church Sunday. She says the… pastor? reverend? whatever… is a lesbian, so that’s a good sign. She says I’m not going to the Episcopalian church because the ‘structure’ (which appeals to me) isn’t ‘talking with God’.

Need to wrap up the late night final since soccer starts at 8am tomorrow so need to head off to Slumberland early. Soccer got practiced so that added to the calories worked off, the Salad eaten (along with a mini-apple pit and a pudding cup for dessert) for dinner, so body and belly are happy. Got a tiny bit of rain and hopefully that’s all we’ll see for the weekend. Temperature is down to 68F so the early games tomorrow should be pleasant.

Rose, this is a special one, from Lisbon, Portugal to Nice, France on a 5-Masted Sailing ship (Star Clippers is the Company). Arranged by a friend who does trips for a bunch of us who became acquainted on the James Randi Forums many years ago. Not cheap but not overly pricey either.

For me, that’s some pretty powerful walking…

Welcome home, JtC! Glad you are now a sum of your parts… And I drive home after dilation but it’s only 3 miles and I wear the heaviest sunglasses I have no matter how cloudy the day is. And got some house-cleaning spray bottles, a can of soup, and some crackers to make up the difference. So gas totaled $1.29.9/gallon after the discount.

flyboy, hope your new (eventual) neighbor remains as friendly as first contact would indicate. Hope you enjoy the Lutherans.

And closing in on 10pm and I have snacked more than enough this evening so off to bed I go. Catch up with y’all sometime tomorrow.

So… I’m at my third (I don’t think it’s my fourth) glass of plonk, plus one large bourbon. It’s 20:00-ish. I think I’ll be done after this glass of wine, That Costco chicken is really good. And Goo liked it too. (CatMom gave some of my chikkin to Abbey, too.)

I have a very active not-so-small dog anymore. I think she’ll end up at around 50 lbs. 34 when she came to me, 44 at the vet last week. But she is quite rambunctious this evening.

Yaaayyy!!

That is irritating. I hate it when doctors omit sharing significant medical information that patients would benefit from having. I’m glad you know about the hot compresses now!

TMI warning:

Summary

I once had a gyno who gave me depo provera without explaining all the potential side effects. It took me about a year to figure out that every time she gave me a shot, my sex drive disappeared. Then I learned it’s the same drug they give sex offenders to kill their sex drive. (!!!) Man, was I pissed. It took a year for everything to come < cough > good. And now, a potential factor for brain tumors?? Question everything!

Ollie spent the evening battling my right arm with everything he had. Tuckered himself out putting that arm in its place. Win…? For him, I guess!

I’m in the middle of a plumbing misfortune where the original plumbers who started the repair decided it would be fun to gouge me. I fired them when they said they weren’t even halfway done with the job and the bill was already more than $2,500. So far as I could tell, they had managed to dig 3 holes for that price. A friend kindly offered to finish the work for far less money. He is coming by tomorrow morning with his helper at SEVEN-THIRTY A.M. to have a look at what work remains. I’m grateful, but can you tell who’s not an early riser? I will make sure there are baked goods and coffee for them, if not a smiling face. At least my eyes will not be stuck shut. Hopefully.
