Fallout 2 question (do I need to say spoilers?)

The question that I have has to do with the caravans. If you agree to help guard one (NCR quest), how do you stay with it (or have it stay with you) after an encounter? I keep heading for the red exit grid and then I wind up all alone in the wasteland. What is the trick?

You wait for the caravan leader to give the ‘Go’ signal. If you run off before that it counts as abandonment.

Woah! There are still people playing Fallout 2?

One of my two favorite computer RPGs (the other being “Planescape : Torment” for its great storyline)

Thanks, couple of other questions though:

What is the “Go” signal? Also, what if he perishes?

You’ll see text floating above his head that says something along the lines of, “Okay, it’s safe to go now.” Even if he dies, his ghost will speak this line.

Yeah, I know that it is pretty old but it is such a cool game that I keep returning to it. I just wish that they would make 3, and that it will not suck.

Bethesda Softworks - the folks who made Morrowind - acquired the rights to Fallout 3 after Interplay dissolved a while ago. It’s coming.

Has anyone actually

used the sixth toe on the Big Bad Boss?

I got lucky when I

got a monstrously large critical hit when I turned the defense systems on him

and never picked it up again.
Although I just got Fallout, Fallout 2 and Arcanum off eBay, and I’ve just started Arcanum, then will play the other two in order (I got 2 out of a bargain bin and have never played the original).

I’ve clocked the game no less than twelve times (in case you’re wondering, I had only one friend until junior year). Feel free to throw any questions you’ve got at me.

All the toe actually does is take 1 point off Frank’s maximum hitpoints. Pointless.

Report: In dorking around with this, this solution seems to not work for me (and Man did I wait!). When I talk to the dude the screen does this weird re centering thing as if something is happening, but it secretly isn’t. There were some cases where I would wind up alone on the world map, others where I would arrive back at the site of the last encounter, to find the caravan there and others where I would go on to the next encounter.

Looks bugged to me, so I killed everyone and took their loot. Really the only way to be sure.

The caravan routes were always buggy as hell. The fanmade patch here might help, but no guarantees.

I always had problems with buggy caravans as well. And don’t get me started on the wolf/ brahmin-protection scenario-- my machine would always freeze during the end transition.

I love this game. Can’t listen to Louis Armstrong anymore.
