I re-read my post twice just now. I see no combination of words I wrote that support this claim.
There’s something to be said for sheer oddness. And if you don’t agree, you can go throw grapefruits at your grandmother while farting through a kazoo.
Very next post answered it:
To expand: Meg was bummed out that she was rejected by the cool “play by me own rules” guy at school, Lois takes her to the mall and trys to help her pick out cool clothe. Lois, in fact, picks out the shirt, after Meg rejects “Slut” and something else offensive but now standard for teen hosebags. She then bellows at Asian reporter Trisha Takanowa, doing a mall report, and manages to get her to give Meg the complementary makeover she’s giving away.
And why is Alex Borstein recycling her Asian woman character from MadTV? Did they have a few precious seconds to fill?
And anyone else catch Seth and Alex on Jimmy Kimmel last night? They sang a song from the new Vegas CD.
The one gag that had me laughing out loud (and I mean loud): Peter grabbing Joe’s leg and smashing him around stage like a guitar.
Yeah, that was stupid. But I hate the character on MAD TV, so I’m not going to like it anywhere else, too.
RickJay, I suspect that what he’s telling you is that you’re being dogmatic (for lack of a better word) about the show being the same while others are being dogmatic about the show not being as good as it once was.
FWIW, I agree with RickJay. “It’s not as funny as it used to be” was probably said about MAS*H, was definitely said about Cheers, was said about Seinfeld, has been said about the Simpsons since 1990, and will always be said about every show.
There’s a funny mindset involved. . .perhaps just a humor version of “natural selection” where the show AS A WHOLE is remembered as being as funny as it’s most memorable gags.
RJ demonstrates a more objective take on the subject.
shrug Again, I objectively disagree.
Something I forgot to mention before about this week’s episode: I thought the bit with Bush was boring, out-of-place, and out-of-character.
As was the recent Chickent Fight, and the other numerous injokes that seem to appease only the hardcore fans.
