Family Guy 9/25

but Julie doesn’t have a glass eye… does she?

What is with all the lengthy movie parodies (or homages?) lately? There was that episode where Peter was a hero and everything past the next-to-last commerical break was shot-for-shot the ending of Star Wars, now the parody of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and I swear there is one more that I’m forgetting.

Obvious where it was going true, but the line “that wasn’t funny!” going with the punch made it golden.

You’re just insane. The fact that they committed that heavily to it made the joke.

But the teary-eyed evil monkey was the best gag. And I almost missed it because there were a ton of freezes and blackouts. Was anyone else getting these?

I thought is was OK, a few too many throw-away pop culture references in the early parts of the show.

For some reason, the Kevin Federline “Magic Mirror, How can I look like a douchebag today?” bit got a big laugh out of me.

Yes, but I see we’re in the same location… probably a local thing. During the first commercial break I switched my cables around to just bypass my digital receiver box, and I didn’t notice any problems after that.

Agree with everyone on the evil monkey. Poor fella, he’s just lonely!

I’m in Memphis, watching on a TV without so much as a cable box, and I was getting freezes and blackouts too.

Yes it was.

Oh, well I guess it must be some sort of evil conspiracy in that case. Perpetrated, perhaps, by the evil monkey…?

I blame the Russians. The bombing starts in five minutes.

No, you’re right, she doesn’t…

OR DOES SHE???

I’m in Memphis but watching on cable, and we had the freezes and blackouts too.

The cow joke was hands down best of the season

Yeah, of course – but the way it was drawn out for so long made it funnier than if it was a quick cut to the smack. It’s not always about the punchline.

I liked Stewie’s musical theatre version of My Left Foot.

T’was good, but they used a very similar joke for American Dad, when Stan took Steve down to Mexico (“God’s blind spot”) for a discreet abortion.

For me, the high point was Peter sitting his drunk, unwiped butt on one of Meg’s friends before falling into a sprawling, naked stupor on the others. Class.

No. And neither does Sandy Duncan.

something’s going on with one of her eyes…

I saw the evil monkey, but I’m not getting the joke - is this a recurring character? i don’t recall seeing it before

Hadn’t seen the show in years; do they have a running theme of abusing Meg? I think I remember that being mentioned in previous threads, but if so . . . why? And who the Hell is Kevin Federline?

I found the most creepily funny aspect of the show to be that Peter is so morbidly obese that he can do a full-frontal without his genitals showing. That, and Peter wiping his ass with one of Meg’s friends.

(Did you notice the warning of “animated nudity” before the show? Was that satire, or does Fox really think it has to do that? Will they get compaints from people who are shocked to see a cartoon of a fat naked man?)

Yes indeed they do.

I’ve quoted this before: From the interview with Seth MacFarlane in the August 2005 issue of Blender: “With Meg, what we’ve kind on landed on is a sort of Jan Brady thing where she’s just constantly being shit on by the rest of the family. And it’s turned out to be very funny.”

Yes. No explanation, beyond that it subverts the usual sitcom parents: instead of insults followed by hugs at the end of the show it’s insults followed by outright loathing. It’s only really come in towards the end of the 3rd season and in the current one.

Kevin Federline is Britney Spears’ husband.

Yes, and that’s exactly how he’s going to be identified until the end of his life, or at least until he starts being “Britney Spears’ ex-husband.”
