Did anyone else think that we (the audience) were the only ones hearing what Stewie was really saying?
It’s not just that Lois didn’t react “normally” to Stewie’s threats of matricide, none of the family seemed to react to him at all.
Made me wonder if Stewie was meant to represent Everybaby – you know, no verbal communication, one understands what he’s saying or what he wants until he can talk somewhat intelligibly.
But in later shows, Lois is responding more directly to him.
Stewie is supposed to be like Garfield ( garfields the cat that can talk but people don’t “hear” him, right?). I picked up on it after all those death threats and stuff. In the later episodes, I’m not sure if Lois is speaking with Stewie or if shes just responding to a baby crying.
In one ep, and my memory is a bit fuzzy, at the end they zoom out to some group of people (animated) who had been watching Family Guy (cartoon within a cartoon), and somebody says: “Wait, I don’t get it. Do they know what the baby’s saying or not?”
Ok, I just rented the entier lot from Netflix, and there is a disclaimer that the commentary on the discs contains adult language. I’ve looked everywhere and can find NO comentary track. Help!
According to the DVD specifications, there are commentaries for Death Has A Shadow, The Son Also Draws, Peter Peter Caviar Eater, Holy Crap, Fifteen Minutes of Shame, Let’s Go To The Hop, He’s Too Sexy For His Fat, and E Peterbus Unum.
“Now, kids, Daddy was only drinking so the Statue of Liberty would take her clothes off.”
The commentary for the first episode is pretty meh. A lot of empty spaces where once in a while you can hear someone breathing… Not much laughter. You do get a few tidbits of info, but nothing outstanding. Overall, the Futurama commentary was much more enjoyable.
Of course, it’s funny as hell sometimes as well. Seth MacFarlane sometimes slips into Peter’s character and swears… “Get off my fucking back Lois!”. They make a point at the beginning of the commentary that they are allowed to swear, and practice several times to confirm :).
