Family Guy spinoff in the works

Cleveland Brown has a show in the works.

When I first heard this mentioned, I thought Seth McFarlane was just screwing with people, but it’s mentioned seriously in a few places.

I have to wonder what they can do with it. If Cleveland still interacts with his usual friends, does it simply become Family Guy 2? Or do they throw him into a totally new situation?

Read this on Slashdot a few days ago. Seth McFarlane must have photos of Rupert Murdoch in bed with Hillary Clinton to be able to get such a stupid concept greenlighted.

But don’t worry, his friends just might drop by to wish him luck. Let’s wish him luck too. Good luck, Cleveland!

Not that FG should have a spinoff, but he’d be about my 10th choice, behind Tom Tucker but ahead of Peter’s mom.

The best choice for a spinoff would be Mort Goldman.

If anybody deserves a spin-off, it’s Quagmire.

Agreed. I thought American Dad was as low as he could go. I was wrong.

Giggidy.

Yea, I don’t really see the point of a third show involving a cartoon family in suburbia. If he wants to try another show, he should do something different and original, like a cartoon comedy set, say, a thousand years in the future spoofing various sci-fi shows/movies/books/whatever. Yea, thats the ticket.

There’s actually a show just like that already called Futurama. What Seth should do is turn that concept on its head by making a cartoon about a family living in a cave in pre-historic times, with dinosaurs and other extinct creatures, and the big joke is that they’re just like a regular family from today!

A fourth show.

Just wait till your father gets home.

People much more deserving of a Family Guy Spinoff:

  1. Mayor West- Could get old unless they surrounded him with a solid cast. Could spoof West Wing and Law and Order shows.
  2. Joe- About his work on the police force. He could still be in FG.
  3. Pascqual and Santos- Completely subtitled from Portuguese!
  4. Channel 5 (WQHG)- A newsroom parody.
  5. Jillian- Brian’s “Ex in the City”
  6. Jim Kaplan- The con man who is always swindling peter.

As I drink my coffee, my counting is getting better.

Current suburban family cartoons:

  1. The Simpsons
  2. King of the Hill
  3. Family Guy
  4. American Dad

Projected suburban family cartoons:

  1. The Goode Family
  2. The Cleveland Brown Star Vehicle

Past suburban family cartoon:

-3. The Flintstones
-2. The Jetsons*
-1. Wait Till Your Father Gets Home
0. Family Dog

I’ve only counted series that have been on broadcast TV in prime time. I’ve probably left some out, but that’s what fractions are for.

And as I get close to the bottom of my coffee cup, I realize that Simplicio probably meant the third Seth McFarland suburban cartoon family.

  • The Jetsons’ neighborhood didn’t look very suburban, but I think we can give it a pass.

I noticed that American Dad wasn’t on this past Sunday. Has it finally been scrapped?

I think it wqas renewed for two season after last year. So, at least one more season after this one.

It’s pretty successful with the 18-45 men demo that is so crucial.

Plus, it is excellent! The Tearjerker episode was brilliant.

I must be the only person alive that doesn’t think Family Guy is funny at all.

Yeah, but I’d want that on Skinemax, not Fox.

I’m not quite that far in agreement, but I do think that both FG and AD have an ugly, misogynistic streak running through them. I also find Peter’s abuse of Meg to be so unfunny that when an episode includes it, it destroys my enjoyment enough that I generally turn off the show.

No, there are 2 of us. The Simpsons quit being funny about 10 years ago, but most episodes of FG I can watch without even cracking a smile.

And they killed Futurama.
Those bastards!

Nope - aside from the odd phrase from Stewie, I find it groan-inducingly awful.

In fact, when I first saw this thread title, I figured it would be all about how some guy who wasn’t funny at all managed to get a third show on the same network.
