Well, Cecil Adams, for one…
I’M Emmit Smith.
Mentioned him earlier in much reverence
The Bad Astronomer is a celebrity of sorts. Maybe not “cover of People magazine” famous, but he’s been on national TV, been quoted in numerous articles, and has a popular website.
I think there was a thread on this a few weeks ago, and, IIRC, Pamela Anderson’s favourite website belongs to Opalcat, The Bad Astronomer is famous in ‘certain circles’ (is it the same Bad Astronomer who is on this weeks JREF report?).
And as I’m writing, boardreader delivers the goods…

We all see things from our own perspective.
If I were able to command my world as I wished it; have more comforts and toys than I could ever enjoy, I would still be unable to give myself what I needed the most.
Some semblance of a normal life.
For just a while, to be one of the masses. To know that if people are agreeing with me, it’s not because of who I am, but what I say.
I think, beyond a doubt, famous people post to message boards. And, this is one of the best.
James Lileks is a minor celebrity. He registered here at one point, but I don’t think he every actually posted.
Anybody from Cops or Jerry Springer?
I was once on Wonderama.
**Scylla ** I swear that that read : I was once on *wonderbra *.
Do you know exactly who, or is there a list somewhere? I know one of the guys from The Allman Brothers used to be quite an EQ addict and RA Salvatore said he occasionally plays but usually doesn’t have the time. Who else plays?
I know The Spice Girls were all given AOL screen names for an online chat and signed on them pretty frequently for the next few months afterwards back around '97 or so. Don’t ask me how I know this, as I was never a fan.
There are probably quite a few celebs posting on the net, but like any denizens of a MB, including this one, are somewhat self selecting. I would imagine the lives of most “celebs” don’t really allow for the sit down time necessary to participate enough to weave an online personality. I would venture to guess that another aspect is that many (not all) busy movie/TV/music etc. celebs with people hounding them for their time, just want to unplug and be left alone in their down time, and have the money for the toys and other distractions that would cut down on net time.
A lot of us are here because we’re kind of bored IRL and like the stimulation of interesting people. If I had the resources for high level, fine dining and entertainment nightly and there were attractive, interesting and influential people interested in meeting me at these venues I would be probably (not that you’re not my favorite people) be doing a lot less SDMB posting and more schmoozing.
More than a rumor: she did under the name Robobo. Then Spider-man came out and she hasn’t been back since.
A few of the mods there confirmed it really was her.
I used to post and chat at a site that had a very big NHL Star there. I know him personally from summer camp and one summer he flew 5 of us down to his place to play for a long weekend. IIRC he posted as Mingus Khan hehe
Ted Nugent posts frequently on his own message board.
I was the at-home player for the Grand Prize Game from Bozo’s Circus. Does that count?
An “Ask the celebrity” thread would be cool, especially if it didn’t deal with specific people (in other words, if Brad Pitt posted here, you could ask, “Are most directors and famous actors easy to work with?” rather than, “What was it like working with Edward Norton in Fight Club?”)
By and large, they’re mostly pussycats if you show up for the shoot on time and reasonably sober. Ed is the consummate professional and a great all around guy.
Why thanks Brad, I mean pravnik.
