Fantasy football preseason general discussion

No clue. There are leagues that let you pick any guy any week you wish, but none that exclude a guy from everyone else once he’s picked.

I need a replacement for Ellis Dee in the all pro and auction leagues. The auction league drafts Wednesday, Aug 29 at 7:30pm eastern. The all pro league drafts the next day at 9:45 eastern. You must be able to make the draft, and people with known reliability of course will be preferred.

Anyone who already expressed interest in those leagues if there was an opening will get priority, but you’ll have to remind me here.

We need to replace him in HHM too. Already have a volunteer there; just wanted to see if there was any more interest.

I may. Cause 500 FF leagues isn’t enough.

Interested. Never played here, but I’ve played with friend from the work and school and stayed in it to the end, even when I wasn’t in the running for 1st.

Last chance to apply for auction league. Darth gets 1 spot but the other may go to a non-SDMBer if no one wants it.

Alrighty. I had my live draft in my money league this weekend, and I was wondering if anyone wantex to give me some feedback. I was drafting from the #9 spot this year (12 team league), and league scoring is typical non PPR combination scoring (yardage and TD’s), but we give 6 points for passing TD’s, so QB’s are heavily emphasized. Here it is:

QB: Drew Brees, Ryan Fitzpatrick
RB: Darren McFadden, Trent Richardson, Beanie Wells, Reshad Jennings, Taiwan Jones
WR: Roddy White, Mikw Wallace, Reggie Wayne, Greg Little
TE: Fred Davis, Kyle Rudolph
DEF: Jets, Packers
K: Dan Carpenter, Billy Cundiff (who I will drop as soon as waivers opens)

I was thrilled to have McFadden, Richardson, and Wallace fall to me, but, now that I look at it, my team carries a ton of risk, risk that I tried to, but may not have, limited. What say you, great fantasy minds of the SDMB?

I can’t believe you didn’t handcuff McFadden with Goodson. Or that you’re carrying two tight ends when one of them is Kyle Rudolph.

I’m not so sure that Goodson will be McFadden’s backup. He’s been injured and had two fumbles this preseason. And Taiwan Jones has performed pretty darn well this preseason. Odds are both Goodson and Jones (along with Reece) would get carries if McFadden goes down and I took Jones because I think he’s a big play guy more than Goodson.

Our rosters don’t allow replacing positions, so I have to have two TE’s, and Rudolph is my sleeper TE this year and he has that “preseason buzz” that I know I should ignore, but I don’t.

Alright, last call, we have 1 slot to fill in the auction league. Draft is Wednesday at 7:30pm eastern. Not high requirements - just make the draft. Anyone want it?

Just did a redraft in my 12 team PPR league. Drafted from the 12 spot.

League starts 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR, 1 TE, D/ST,K

QB. Matt Ryan, Carson Palmer

RB. Matt Forte, Fred Jackson, Ben Tate, CJ Spiller, Toby Gerhardt, Cedric Benson, Jonathan Dwyer

WR. Roddy White, Brandon Marshall, Pierre Garcon, Greg Little

TE. Tony Scheffler

D/ST. Lions

K. Alex Henery

I waited way too long for TE. One RB too many.

Yes and yes. The TE pool is pretty deep, and with only one roster spot taken with it, I would think that there would be a lot more talented guys out there than Scheffler. Unless someone goes with the Senor Beef’s patented Grab the TE’s plan, I would think you could find someone else. Heck it may not even be a problem because there’s likely to be some talent on the waiver wire too.

Picking 12th this year is a tough spot, because it’s at the start of a big ole tier of question marks. So you’re likely going to end up picking a guy who you don’t love, but you feel like you have to take. I’m assuming that was Matt Forte. I don’t like Matt Forte. Coming off the injury, rarely getting into the end zone, with a questionable O Line and the signing of Michael Bush, he doesn’t excite me in the least. The Bears are talking like their going to be a running team (which should make Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler very happy) and Cutler throws to Forte a lot, so there is some hope, but I don’t see him having the kind of year he had early last year at all.

I think you know you’re light at the RB position this year, but quantity over quality may be the way to go this year. Both Tate and Spiller are “backups but who the team wants to get more carries”, and the Jackson/Spiller combination should give you one starter the whole year. Gerhart isn’t exciting, but given the questions about All Day’s effectiveness, he’s worth a shot, and Benson has a chance to step in and be a starter, which is great value from the RB 5 spot. I don’t love any of these guys, but at the piecemeal RB position in today’s NFL, I think you did the best you could.

Finally, I love the value I see in Matt Ryan and Brandon Marshall this year, so they were great picks. Roddy White and Brandon Marshall give you a great WR crew.

If Matt Ryan takes even a small step up in production and your RB’s stay healthy, I really like your team. Again, the RB position is a weakness, but hopefully this year you may not need it to win it all.

I like this team a lot. I don’t think Matt Forte gets nearly enough credit for everything he does. As long as he can bounce back from last year’s injury, I can’t think of a better RB you could have taken at 12.

I’m also a big fan of Matt Ryan (especially in the second year of the Julio Jones era) and the Packers have been talking up Cedric Benson all pre-season.

You may not win it all, but you’ll be in contention.

Well this thread has almost served its purpose, but just a quick heads up. If you want in on the SDMB Pick 'em, survival, and salary cap leagues, you need to get your entries in before the game starts tomorrow. If you want in on the SDMB Yardage Pool League, you can post your pick before the relevant game.

The yardage pool league is awesome* and I encourage you all to play.

*even though I finish second by a hair every fucking year.

In a standard scoring league, I can start 2 of 3 running backs for week 1: Demarco Murray, DeAngelo Williams, and Shonn Greene. Who should I start?

Murray is probable for the game and should start. I plan on running him.

DeAngelo Williams - he usually splits with Jonathan Stewart, who is injured. He might fly solo or split with the 3rd string RB.

Shonn Greene - perpetually underwhelms, much like the J-E-T-S (SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK). But he’s supposed to have a bigger workload this year.

Murray, Williams. Stewart is hurt and my Bucs can’t stop the run.
