Fast Food Cravings

Second saddest thing I’ve heard all day. At least you’re not stuck with Taco Johns which is what they had for Mexican fast food in Des Moines when I lived there. Damn was I glad to move back south a year and a half later. Taco Johns???!! Really? Not even Taco Juans, but Taco Johns. Lol.

Bueno beats Bell IMHO any day, but yeah I’m not sure I’d drive 100 miles to get it…but I might, it’s that much better, to me anyway. Bell has the Mexican pizza which I love and Bueno has no equivalent. I could eat Mexican food every day and I’d be so happy.

Currently, my go-to fast food Mexican is Taco Palenque, a regional chain with a location… thankfully… about 4 minutes from my home.

Yes, I loved those. I also miss the blueberry oatmeal that McDonalds used to offer. Just wonderful.

375 miles for me.

And Taco John’s isn’t bad for faux Mexican. it was started in Wyoming for chrissake! The one here sometimes way over seasons the Potato Oles though.

Damn you… I had forgotten about those. I had just discovered them in time to have a few before they were discontinued. Far and away the best breakfast sandwich out there. I don’t really remember the spread but that was likely why it stood out above the others.

Well, while we’re on that subject, I was addicted to the McDonald’s Cheddar Melt (Youtube link) back in the day, as well. Now, it may very well be for the best that I can’t revisit those memories in the form of the Cheddar Melt being reintroduced at McD’s,lest I be disappointed, but I swear I remember thinking that was the greatest McDonald’s hamburger ever. Why they don’t bring it back occasionally a la the McRib, I have no idea (though it does seem there was some brief resurrection of it maybe in the early 2000s? I seem to recall reading something about it. Maybe it was regional, but I don’t ever remember seeing it since the early 90s.)

The survey reward also includes a BOGO for the Egg McMuffin. Some restaurants allow me to substitute for the Egg Mcmuffin the far superior Sausage McMuffin w/ Egg (Big Macs for Q Pdrs, too.)

Yes indeedy!

I don’t like McDonald’s burgers at all but every 2 years or so (it’s been about 3 years now, looong overdue) I need to have a Sausage McGriddle. Don’t need no egg.

That’s what I mean Mexican does not have potatoes.
Lol. Wyoming? That’s hilarious.

I feel so bad for every soul who doesn’t have a Bueno in their city.

Of course it does. While nowhere near as popular as corn, Mexicans consume about 30 lbs of potatoes per year per capita. Looks like they have been there since the 1500s, at least, and possibly much longer. It may depend on region, of course, but deep-fried potato tacos and dishes with papas y chorizo (potatoes and chorizo) are pretty common, whether for breakfast with eggs or in a taco or whatnot.

I was thinking “well, guess everyone in San Antonio does Mexican food wrong”, but didn’t want to bother supporting the argument. Thanks!

The McD’s closest to me (in a Houston suburb) still sells those, although it does seem they may be on their way out. As a matter of fact, had one just this morning, you poor unfortunate bastards. My sympathies.

I can haz cravings for the McChicken and Filet o’ Fish as well. For some reason I don’t seem to get cravings for non-McDonald’s fast food. Hang on, except, now I think about it, for a double burger that A & W used to serve. With a diet root beer (at the time just about the only fast food joint you could get a diet root beer) that was a thin slice of heaven.

why? ii live in LA county if i want real Mexican food 30 girls in my block will make it for 20 cash and ingredients … i go to del taco and taco bell for stoner food …
A&W here used to make a “BBQ” sandwich that was yesterdays leftovers chopped up and smothered in bbq sauce … you could find fish patties bacon …burger and beef all in the same sandwich … I loved the htings …

Since you’re also in Kansas, I can tell you that you don’t have to go to St. Louis. There’s a White Castle in Columbia, MO, (at I-70, exit 128A).

Road trip?

I was home for Christmas this year in Virginia. There was a LJS’s there 40 years ago; I used to go to once a week when I was a teenager. My brother worked there. It closed down about 2013 because of a fire. When I was home that year it was disapointing, but this year it was open again.

It was…good. Not quite as good as my memory, but few things are. I always get the combo with 2 pieces of chicken and 1 piece of fish. And, of course, hush puppies!

Wish there was one near me now. As fast food fish goes, you can’t beat it.

Hell, it’s about the only place you can get fast food fish. The horrid Arthur Treacher’s doesn’t count

I haven’t thought about Long John Silver’s since the mid 80’s when I was just out of college and there was one close to my first job. They had a really good fish sandwich, and Hush Puppies… which are hard to come by in this part of the country. Does it say anything about them that the thing I miss the most are the little crispy bits of batter that fell off of the other food that they fished out of the fryer and put into your order? I just checked and there is actually still one not too far from me so I may just have to make a trip down memory lane in the next few weeks (although I’m prepared to be disappointing). Their marketing must be horrible because I just realized there are 3 within 8 miles of me and I had honestly thought they had gone under years ago.

i haven’t been to a captain d’s since 1987 but since they’ve been running commercials ive been getting nostalgic …

Skyline Chili is an outstanding example of what it’s supposed to be. It’s supposed to be Cincinnati-style chili. People who know Cincinnati-style chili understand that it’s not chili at all in the traditional sense, but it was never supposed to be.

I love chili but I love Cincinnati-style chili even more.

When I used to live down south I loved Krystal’s chicken sandwiches.

I love me some Capt D’s or Long John Silver fish-n-chips, or fish-n-fries - whatever they call them. But neither restaurant is near me. The local LJS disappeared a year or so ago.

DQ used to feature a mushroom/swiss burger that was messy but yummy - it appears to be off the menu also. Oh well…
