Hey, fun thread!!
My fav’s (in no particular order):

Metallica (if you knew me, you’d know how wierd this is!)
Diana Krall - jazz goddess! That voice!
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Gypsy Kings
Ricky Martin (please, no hissing! His last
Spanish album “Vuelve” is great!!)
Mandy Barnett - for you Patsy Cline
lovers out there, check her out! She’s
Cline-esqe with the great voice but
unique!
Pre-Hagar Van Halen - I can’t believe I
haven’t seen this listed yet! Maybe I
wasn’t paying attention!
Will Smith - the only rapper I like

Carpe Diem! or at least seize something!

I’m more than a bit partial to The Reverend Horton Heat, also Webb Wilder. And lots and lots of blues. Muddy Waters, Leadbelly, Koko Taylor. . . ]]
Just to inject a note of Straight Dopey anal-retentiveness to the thread, Leadbelly was technically a songster (like Mance Lipsomb and, more famously, Mississippi John Hurt). These guys (the songsters) did have a wide blues repertoire, and they tended to a bit play more blues as their careers progressed (due, I think, to the market), they had a lot of numbers from other traditions.

just bought a new cd yesterday that totally kicks some ass. If anyone likes hard/industrial music, then you definitely need to get STATIC-X, Wisconsin Death Trip.
Very supremely super kick ass. Especially song #2- I’m With Stupid. That song has some tremendous ass kickingness to it.
Here’s a link to hear it: http://www.static-x.com/wisconsin/med/track2.ram
I had my speakers on full blast and just about made 'em burst listening to it. Everyone needs to go get STATIC-X. GO NOW! DO IT!

Kinks
Yardbirds

And one more vote for Led Zeppelin; inventors of metal and quite a bit else.

All right, all right, point taken. Also, I dunno who it was that mentioned Louis Jordan, but he’s one of my favorite listens as well.

Waste
Flick Lives!

Falcon - I consider “Under the Table & Dreaming” his first big release, if only because 90% of Georgetown U. had the album and knew most of the songs by heart within weeks of its release.
Initially I hated DMB because one roommate would play “Ants Marching” almost constantly and it got annoying. Then another roommate started playing bootleg tapes from live shows and that got me hooked. I still remember a version of “Satellite” with different words (apparently the original lyrics) that fit the song a lot better.

All Hail Unca Cecil, or the next best thing available!

Olentzero -

I thought that was the album you meant, but I wanted to make sure. I can understand about hearing the songs beforehand - I knew most of the songs on Under the Table and Crash before they were released. And usually the original lyrics were a lot better. (Case in point - “Halloween.” The version on Recently was better.)

And I agree the bootlegs are better, since they’re live. Guess that’s why I’m going to see them again this summer. (August 1st, here I come!)

That cat’s something I can’t explain

Two Words:

         WARREN ZEVON

If you haven’t heard him (other than “Werewolves of London”), RUN, don’t walk, and buy “Excitable Boy”, his second album. With songs like “Lawyers, Guns, and Money”, “Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner”, and the aforementioned WWOL, it’s one of the best albums of the 70’s. You could also pick up “Warren Zevon” which is almost as good.

This is my bread and butter…

Waters-era Pink Floyd
