I disagree. Not with the “bizarre and wonderful” part, because it was, but with the idea that it wasn’t a typical Sandler character. The genius of the film is, it takes a standard Sandler character and shows how that character would function in the real world.
Shrek
Are we talking movie or graphic novel? The movie sweetens the ending a bit, the graphic novel is more melancholy.
Excellent choice.
My entry: Happy Accidents
My favorite movie. I fell so in love with Alan Rickman because of it.
I like The Philadelphia Story, too. They know the worst about each other, and love each other anyway. Most movie romances are about the fun of falling in love, about the illusions that make falling in love possible. True love has been disillusioned, and becomes stronger because of it.
No Strings Attached - a movie I enjoyed much more than I expected. I was never a huge fan of Portman and I actively disliked Kutcher. But this movie completely worked for me and has even given me more positive feelings towards its two stars. (And I have to credit the acting. I’ve heard they did not get along at all well on the set.)
1776. Yes, I know it’s mostly about other stuff, but the relationship between John and Abigail Adams is awesome. True love at its best, and it’s a true story.
Wings of Desire
Romeo and Juliet? Zefferelli’s or Luhrmans, either.
Princess Bride isn’t so much about true love as about twoo wuv, as in post #15.
Maybe. But there’s a strong argument to be made that Romeo and Juliet is about teenage passion rather than true love.
