It is with a measure of sadness that I must report that Andrew Dice Clay pretty much spoiled nursery rhymes for me. I can’t think of one he hasn’t had a better version of.
Having said that, one of the favorite cartoons I have ever seen involved a Charles Addams or Gahan Wilson or somebody whose work was in the ghoulish or macabre vein those guys perfected. Anyway, this one was of an old lady sitting in a porch swing with a little girl reading her nursery rhymes. The caption went something like:
“Hey diddle diddle
The cat and the fiddle
The cow jumped over the moon…
Preposterous!”
OK, it’s time I shared this with people other than my family. We (my brother and cousins) took great delight in spouting this rhyme when we were young, and I recently shared it with my own kids and husband. They feigned outrage but died laughing:
Milk, Milk (while pointing to each boob)
Lemonade (while pointing to crotch)
Around the corner (pointing to butt)
Fudge is made
