Favourite commedians

Who is everyones favourite commedian?
Mine is either Sean Lock or Ross Noble because his improvising is so surreal and strange, but funny with it (obviously!)

Jonny Vegas is also very funny without really trying

Well, I’m probably showing my age, but my all-time favorite stand-up is Bill Cosby. I’ve seen Gallagher in concert (live) and enjoyed him very much. Also, Robin Williams cracks me up!

Richard Jenni and the late, great Bill Hicks.

Can’t say who my favorite is, but I’ve never laughed as hard as when I watched “Bill Cosby : Himself.” Of course, I was only about 12 or 13…

Gun to my head, I’d say Chris Rock.

hrh

Yeah, Bill Cosby old school stuff is some of the funniest stand up around.

Bob Newhart had some classic routines.

Current funny stuff, first guys that come to mind are Brian Reagan and Dane Cook. There was a young kid on Comedy Central by name of Nicholas something who had a hilarious bit on video games. I hope to see more of him soon.

Second for Dane Cook…he is just manic on stage…should be
followed around by a camera 24-7
Mitch Hedberg - best delivery
Joe Rogan
Bill Hicks
Chris Rock

George Carlin and Lewis Black - both I have seen in concert at the U of D in Neward, DE, very good and funny, I am glad I saw them.

Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, Bill Hicks, Frank Skinner. The three in the OP are pretty good too.

Richard Pryor

Favourite slice of stand-up ever: Woody Allen CD, Stand Up Comic. Various sections taped during his early 1960s gigs. I’m not a fan of WA’s movies but this classic CD is as good as stand up ever gets.

Favourite single comedy performance: Robin Williams, A Night at the Met. No single performance can beat this or come close. A genius at his peak.

Favourite single comedy video: Billy Connelly, Big Banana Feet. Annoyingly hard to track down these days, but this video, compiled from the BBF tour, is sublime.

Favourite not yet listed: Steve Martin, with routines like ‘How to Meet A Girl’ and ‘Men’s Underwear’ - dizzying invention plus perfect, perfect timing and delivery.

The all-time king for me was Cosby though. I wish I could go back and hear his stand up for the first time again. When I saw Himself on HBO years ago (was I in high school maybe?) I thought I would pee my pants.

Eddie Izzard! I saw his show Dressed to kill on HBO one day and I was amazed by his smart funny bits, he really had me cracking up!
The meanies from Boston are fun too, Steve Sweeney and … geez… what’s his name?? the blong guy who had a show (pretty good but canceled) called “the job”… Yikes, what’s his name… Help?!

Denis Leary.

My favorite comedians are Eddie Izzard and Jim Gaffigan. I’m still angry about Eddie not being cast as Lupin in the 3rd Harry Potter movie…Not exactly a standup comedian, but I think Tony Slattery is great also, like on the early "Whose Line"s.

I’ll second Steve Sweeney. I listen to “Sweeney’s Neighborhood” every morning on 100.7 FM, and he’s the best thing on it. I’ve also seen him, like, ten times in standup live, and I don’t even mind that he recycles 3/4 of his jokes from performance to performance. The guy’s a lot funnier than what he makes himself out to be.

I’ve also seen Eddie Izzard live, and there is no one funnier and more intellectual at the same time. He’s also a great actor. Spot on.

I used to like Robin Williams’s standup, but someone should tell a 50-something guy what he looks like in a Hawaiian shirt jumping around the stage while doing cat-poop jokes. At least Sweeney knows enough to be dignified.

Yeesh. I meant that the guy’s a lot smarter than what he makes himself out to be.

Thanks for the name Lisa-go-Blind!

JoanLinen, I second Mitch Hedberg. Love him!

Pablo Francisco autographed my breast once.

Richard Pryor - only guy to ever make me laugh until I couldn’t breathe. Eddie and Chris wish they could be half as funny.

Janeane Garofalo-
