Favre tells Vikings he's not coming back

Nah, one of the reasons he keeps coming back is to maintain his consecutive games streak. If he misses Week 1, he’s done.

Why did Joe Webb draft so low? Sounds like a pretty great athlete.

If he’s on a retired or other sort of non-injury related list, I’m not sure if that would, technically, break the streak.

I just voted on two polls at sports.yahoo.com, and the results are:

Poll #1: Do you think Farve will play for the Vikings in 2010?
70% yes (this came out after the announcement, thus 70% of fans think he’s a liar.)
30% n0

Poll #2: When will you believe that Brett Favre is really, truly retired?
#1 answer: I will never believe Brett Farve. (32%, 6 options.)

Yes it would. Not missing any games due to injury is the whole point of the streak.

EDIT: Let’s hear it for my reading comprehension, eh? Can’t screw the pooch much more than that.

Missed window: so regardless of whether he comes back or not, he’s clearly lost the respect of fans.

What year did that happen? Its like Groundhog Day. Over and fucking over.

I don’t quite believe that his name is Bret Favre.
My guess is that he might be a late-season replacement.

Word is wait for by week 4. I’ve loved Favre for years, but if even I am sick of this…

Dio, I do enjoy that you Vikes are feeling the Packers’ pain.

Well, the mud is being slung over at Deadspin:

(NSFW discussion) Brett Favre sends some…uh…photos to not his wife

I don’t know if it s true or not, just thought I would put it out there.

Kare11’s reporting that they’ve thrown another $7 million at him, on top of the $13 million he was already getting. Peter King puts odd on him joining the team in week 4 (like **BottledBlondJeanie **reported) after the bye. The first teams we play are also all playoff contenders, King surmises, so that coincidentally also gives Brett a chance to see whether the Vikings will be in the hunt as well before he rejoins.

I don’t really care either way. Yes, I’d love to have him back. Without him, we’ve got serious issues at QB. But I’m also tired of the circus, tho’ I think the Vikings are doing pretty well not calling too much attention to it.

And now he’s claiming he hasn’t made a decision yet, ugh.

And now thanks to Gangster Octopus all I can think about is Favre masturbating with nothing but Crocs and a watch on. Thanks for killing my fantasies.

Yeah, I’d forgotten all about that.

Apparently now he hasn’t made a decision? What a self centered douche bag. I hate the guy and this is the last I’ll speak of him.

Is this really just a ploy to skip training camp and the pre season? and if so couldn’t he just tell the team he’s not going to do any of that?

It ain’t over 'til … EVER. It is never ever ever ever over. Ever!

Holy Crap! I really wish people would get over this.
The only ones who have their undies in a bunch over this is the media and the fans. And the media is just feeding the frenzy.
I don’t see Childress stressed out over this.
I don’t see Wilf stressed out over this.
I don’t see Favre stressed out over this.
I don’t see other players stressed out over this.
I don’t see the NFL stressed out over this.
But the media and the fans? “AHHHHHH! OMG, OMG, OMG! WTF!!I hate him!! Primadonna! Dramaqueen!!”
Do yourselves a favor. Walk away and come back on September 9th. Nothing matters until that date anyway.

We’re excited about training camps and the upcoming season. Brett Favre drama has been shitting all over this time of year for the better part of a decade. We’re allowed to be pissed about that.

He’s like that one girl in high school or college for whom you would do anything. She could tell you anything, lie to you, cheat on you, cheat off of you, talk shit about you but, you always take her back. Everybody else tells you that you’re being ridiculous. Your friends remind you that she’s hot, but what has she really done for you besides borrow money, treat you like a chauffer, etc.? The Vikings are like Forrest Gump and Favre is like Jenny.

Sure Favre’s got a great arm, but what has he done in the past 13 seasons? He’s had great games and provided some spectacular highlights. But at the end of the day, he’ll make some stupid decision to throw it all out the window. And yet the Vikings kneel in his presence.

Vikes fan here - I’ve been hoping that he’ll come back, but I know the odds are slim that he’d be able to repeat his 2009 performance. He gave us our most enjoyable season since 1998 and for that I’m willing to cut him a lot of slack.

If he doesn’t come back, well, it’s going to suck watching Tarvaris bring all the talent around him down to his level. He’ll get all the first-team reps this summer, so maybe he’ll develop some chemistry with someone whose job it is to catch the ball.

I don’t care when Favre announces what he’s doing or how much the media covers it or how much all you Dopers bitch about all of it. All I care about is the 2-4* wins he’ll add to our season total if he’s our QB.
