Lots to share. But, I will dish out a little at a time, so you don’t doze off.
My world famous daughter, Rosalee, came to celebrate my birthday in January. Happy belated birthday Moooom! mine is the 24th of January.
Rosalee is a world famous author. Doesn’t visit much, cuz she is very busy. However, she did come when I was dying in the hospital last year. Told me last year she would come back if I took care of my health. And she did!
She rented an Airbnb in Isla Mujeres for four nights. They have a beautiful beach. You rent a couple lounge chairs and an umbrella for $15. And there is food and beverage service, or you can bring a cooler. Very relaxing.
Restaurants. We did restaurants! She picked the places using ratings on the internet. Imagine having no cash flow problems. We dined at some exquisite places. More on that in following posts.
Metal Mouse, I have enjoyed your posts on the home improvement projects. Amazing! Looking back, would you have done anything different? Installing ceiling fans is a rather simple process. If there was one there before. In my previous life, I was a sparky and have installed hundreds. However, if the ceiling didn’t support a fan before, it is better to have a qualified installer. So, the fan does not come raining down.
I will share more later. It is good to be home. And being Dopeless for two weeks gave me withdrawl symptoms.
Welcome back! It sound like you had a blast. I would love to hear more about your daughter and/or check out her books. I’m glad you two are re-connecting.
Today I’m having some spinal procedure that sounds hideous, but hopefully will result in at least a temporary block of any CSF leaks. The 2-day infusion also scheduled for this week got moved out. I need to do 3 days of laying flat. Ugh.
The dogs are acting just like kids. They play all the time. Akiko acts just like the big sister. If the puppy finds one of her toys, she growls and yank it away. Usually within 5 minutes, they are playing with it. It just has to be her idea.
Shades - Is there a renter’s right group where you are? It may even be a government agency. I know you don’t have anything in writing, but there’s a clear precedent established in your history with the property. I think you have a case to stay where you are and not move. I may not be much use for a few days, but after that I’d be happy to help you do some research.
Happy Toesday everyone!
ETA: Last night for dinner I made pork loin with garlic and rosemary, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. My son was dancing around the house. I asked him why, and he said “This dinner is EPIC!”
It’s raining and the dogs are napping.
Irk is slow.
I have some proofreading to do later, and some laundry, and I have to transfer the pics of the taste testing from my phone to the puter so my son can send them in with the assignment. He has to have proof of actually doing the assignment. I’m not sure how the pictures prove anything, in one he is standing next to a woman with a plate of oreos and in another he is standing next to a woman holding a cup. Picnic table and dogs in the background.
Echo’s diapers should get delivered today. I don’t know if she will wear them.
There’s a music school in my area. Started about 10 years ago, is pretty well-known, and I know several people who have worked there.
The other day, I found out that there are cats in the school, and that if a kid having a lesson plays their music well 3 times in a row, they get to play with the cats.
Midget, good to see you here and about. And that is a great incentive program.
moon unit, sounds like you an daughter had a great time; may you have many more.
As for the home improvement, I don’t think I would have done anything different…just maybe at different times (the ceiling fans would have been earlier in the process, before the new flooring and new bedroom sets went in). But so far happy with everything. Ottoman and Chest of Drawers are due next Tuesday, and that should complete my major furniture purchases. I do have fans in place, they are the same one the house came with in 1997, so I figured as long as everything else is getting changed around… Only thing I might need to add is a little ‘breakfast’ dinette set, but the nook is filled with books right now, so it’ll be awhile.
Expecting a ‘sparky’ (the company is Mr. Sparky) here after noontime, if his estimate is good we might get that done today.
It was snowing earlier this morning, but it mostly melted.
I have friends I inherited from my mother. They used to be her neighbors, and they were very kind to her. The wife gets worried and testy if they don’t hear from me often enough. When I didn’t report back in after my visit to the eye specialist, I got a note in the mail chiding me for not calling. Sigh. I called this morning, so that duty is out of the way for a while.
Not a good lupus day, but I’m determined to get to the gym. I got on the scale this morning, and it screamed. Then I screamed. I really didn’t think I was eating that much.
Shady, wishing you good luck in finding affordable housing. With that much time, hopefully something will turn up.
Sunny, good luck with the procedure.
Moon unit, what a great visit! You must be incredibly proud of your daughter.
Don’t know what dinner is going to be. I’m too mad at my body to feed it.
It’s on the list, possibly this month; could maybe even drive out of the way to take a college kid out to dinner, too.
I’m not unsympathetic to the situation, but a renter w/o a lease is being given 6-12 months notice. Why do you think the family can stay? I don’t know CA law; do they have rent control like NYC? Midget I could see little devils intentionally clawing an ankle after 2½ successful practices.
Just got an email from the skool district about :eek:panic:eek: & sickness - there are no known cases of coronavirus in the state at this time but a general reminder to keep your rugrat at home if there’s things coming out of them that shouldn’t be & for 24 hrs after said things have stopped coming out of them.
Russets are in the toaster oven to bake. The steaks will go under the oven broiler later. Just gotta decide on sides. I’m thinking beets, plus peas-n-carrots for the non-beet eaters.
I just finished watching the latest season of Mrs. Maisel - when’s the next one due?? dammit.
This morning I went to the doc who removed my gall bladder. He said things are progressing normally. I shoulda stopped in at the vampires after and get my blood drawn for next weeks visit with my primary care doc, but I forgot. I did stop by their cafeteria and get a nice salad outta their salad bar. They have a very good, but small, cafeteria.
Just as well I forgot about the blood draw as I want to text my doc and ask him to add a thyroid test to the blood workup. I’ve been getting cold a lot lately, and Wifey says my hands and lips are cold.
Got some ground beast outta the fridge. Maybe sloppy joes for dinner.
Sitting in the computer room while the electrician builds and mounts my new fans. That the service will cost about $150 more than the fans did is one of the wonders of electrical contracting. Still, even with that my budget for them was so high that I’ll still have (some) money left over. At least the rain has gone away (clouds remain).
Hey Red, just looked an I’ll be up Nashville way in a couple of weeks for the Chieftains farewell tour…they’re at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (no idea where that is-google maps will be my friend) at 7:30pm on the 19th. If you’d like to meet up sometime before that, let me know.
Howdy Y’all! We laundered and et sup. What an exhaustin’ day! Seriously not much more, if any more, happened today. We be chill.
moon unit glad you had such a fantastic time with your daughter!
sunny hope all went well with the procedure.
metalmouse as to the ceilin’ fans, I’d rather pay someone who knows what he/she is doin’ than do it myself and live in fear of a ceilin’ fan crashin’ down on me in my sleep.
midget if they had doggies to play with I would be motivated.
nellie then again, it’s nice to have someone who worries about you, right?
So, what are doggio, bumba, baker and me? Chopped liver?
You expressed interest in visiting Fat Moe’s sometime when you visit Nashville. They have a location 3.7 miles from TPAC (that’s pretty much dab smack right downtown) fat moe's - Bing Maps If that’s not your idea of a pre-concert supper, let me know what kind of food you’re interested in and I’ll find a place.
It sucks that you’re having to move shady.
Welcome back moon unit! I’m glad that you had a good visit with your daughter.
Playing with kittehs sounds like a good reward for music practice to me emily.
It’s drizzly today, not too good for grumpy joints. On top of that, when I went to make myself more coffee at irk this morning, I got tangled with an empty pallet that was hanging out into the aisle and took a three point landing (knees and left arm) on concrete, sending my Mason jar mug crashing to the ground and getting a whole mess of ERTs running to me. The knees are bruised and the shoulder of the left arm is really sore. I declined medical treatment for the moment, but if it hurts too badly after a couple of days, I’ll go to the doctor. One of my buds in engineering came back to bring me a spare coffee mug so’s I would have caffeine for the rest of the day. (Chip’s a good guy). I popped a pain pill when I got home and will use them as needed for a couple of days. I hope that I don’t get too stiff overnight.
Had my infusion today. No craziness this time.
Had a good report from my blood test. My white count has gone really low. The infection in my Kidney is beat back, right now . The PA said not to get TOO happy. But the the antibiotics are doing their job.
I’ve felt really good. So I’m gonna get TOO happy anyway.
Have a good evening all.
Put my Gen-u-ine Tony Llama Cowboy boots on for the first time in maybe 10 year. Felt good, but not ideal for out in the Jeep. Biggest surprise? Was able to get them off!
