Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot- An Heatwave MMP

@JaneDoe42

Re: sweet or dry mead~may I decide when I get there? We can sit (in my case, slouch) on the porch/catio and do multiple tastings. I’ll try to entice GG into a cuddle of his choice.

I’ve only had sweet mead (blackberry). My city on the prairie doesn’t offer many mead opportunities. My dear housemate likes to sip mead when she’s playing a character in some medieval role-playing video games, so I hunted down a bottle for her birthday one year. 1 liquor store in 10 carried mead so I didn’t have a lot of choices.

Usually I prefer drier over sweet in wines, even in sparkling wines, which are my favorite category.

Someday I’ll take you up on the mead, Grand Canyon and cat. Can we poke fun at hubs a wee bit too? I’ll be sure to bring one of my canes to shake at passers by.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 50 degrees with an expected high of 62. It’s also cloudy and wet and that will continue pretty much through today and tomorrow. Rah.

I didn’t do much of anything yesterday. I tidied up my home office area by moving my printer to an under-desk printer stand. Now, I just need to get some desktop organizers for my notepads, sticky notepads, and pens. Plus I want to get a combo file cabinet/shelf thing so I can store my papers and what-not out of sight. I vacuumed as well because Polar’s fur just gets everywhere.

I was hoping to get the lawn mowed yesterday before the rain moved in, but I was not successful and it looks like I won’t be successful today either. It’s getting pretty tall.

I am thinking that today I’ll take care laundry and the usual Sunday chores since tomorrow is filled up with a vet visit for Polar as well as going up to the kids’ place to celebrate Father’s Day.

Greetings from Columbia, SC!
We bailed on last night’s game during a long rain delay. They did end up playing 2 hours late, but I’m not mad. We’ll be back tonight and there is 0% chance of rain, so we didn’t really miss out.

Ron (my baseball traveling companion) tripped and fell on our way to the ballpark and badly twisted his ankle. We barely made it back the hotel. He says it feels better this morning but he’s still hobbling. There is public transit here; we may need to avail ourselves of that rather than repeat the 2-mile walk. We’ll see.

It’s my first time visiting Columbia. I like it. We’re staying right near the capitol building, and if Ron’s able to walk, we’re planning to go over there and look around this afternoon.
There’s a nice clean business district about halfway to the ballpark with some good bars and restaurants. The locals are friendly. I look forward to a fun night.

One of the most puzzling things about this pattern is that she has health issues and really needs to have reliable health insurance. To arbitrarily take a large gap in access to health care seems self-defeating to me.

She’s coming over today, but I have to bite my tongue. Admonitions just fall on deaf ears and make her angry because there goes Dad telling me how to live my life.

On the plus side, she’s taking some of our accumulated crap off our hands and has volunteered to try to sell some of it online for us.

It’s gonna be a day over here. Buddy got himself a time-out for hassling Allie. I don’t think he was being malicious or aggressive, just REALLY wanted her to play with him. She wasn’t having it, and got pretty vocal on the subject.

Left arm does ache today, which I expected after the shots. DH’s snoring got me up earlier than I wanted to be up.

In France it’s 42 °C… that’s 107°F I guess.
About 10°C (or 18°F) above the norm.

Busy and shorted handed heave. Oddly enough, most of us who were there today are on the Monday-Friday schedule, not the Tuesday-Saturday schedule. Had to do some cleanup on the 200 slide

And why does everyone ask if I need rest? I’m not old. < pops Matlock tape into VCR, and settles into rocking chair >

Saving up for a kegerator. :beers:

Ouch! Welcome, and hope you have somewhere cool-ish to be.

That’s bad. Really bad. I hope it cools down soon.

Yesterday my son kept cleaning his room to prep for New Dog. This led to a mini-freakout by me at one point because his stuff ended up all over the living room. This was somehow my fault because I wasn’t there to help or something, but I digress.

We also got No Name New Dog! He is a very timid little guy and spends most of his time in his crate, surveying us all. He is slowly warming up. My big dogs think he is the Best Thing Ever! He’s not ready to say hi yet, so we’ll work up to that.

Not feeling so great today. Body aches, tired, elevated temperature (for me, 99F is at least a degree above normal). Definitely sloth day today. We have leftovers from last night’s magic Internet pizza and megacookie, plus plenty of other food, and DoorDash is an option.

I’m assuming the symptoms I’m having go along with having Tdap and shingles shots yesterday.

Yep, both of them can do that, especially the shingles. Tylenol for comfort is always what my doctor kid suggests.

Happy Saturday!

It was a cold, yes COLD, morning at the park. A cloudy and windy 66 degrees. I wish I had had long sleeves under my jackets and pants instead of shorts. I was there for two hours, and would have stayed longer if I hadn’t been so cold. I even turned on the heat in the truck on the drive home.
The dogs had a blast. Six out of seven of our core group showed up, only Barky and Humpy were no shows. A few of the semi regulars showed up, as well as three new dogs. Since it was cooler out, most of them were feeling frisky.
I got nipped twice. For some reason Urban always runs to me when he is wrestling with other dogs. They were bouncing around my feet and my hands got in the way. Urban really likes me, although I think he likes the bribes in my pocket better.
Echo got into a scuffle with Nelson, and lost a bit of skin. Nelson’s dad made him leave but I think it was just an accident. He told me to let him know if there will be a vet bill. I think a trip to the vet isn’t necessary.
I don’t know what it is with Echo and Nelson, they will be playing one second and squabbling the next. You can’t really call it a fight, more like having words, only this time there was some blood.

I was thinking about opening all the windows in the house today, but as chilly as I got at the park, I think I would be closing them pretty quickly. It’s supposed to drop down into the 50s for the next two mornings.

Cerberlicious, how I hate that name, is an Australian Shepherd. He was supposed to be a mini, but he just turned a year in May and he is about three inches taller than Echo and weights 50 pounds. Not a mini.
I hope it works out with him; he can be very protective to the point of aggression. He is so nervous. If he behaves well at the park, I think he will burn up enough energy to calm down a bit and be a lot better behaved. I expect he will do well with Coco as she is high energy, loves to run, and is very good natured.
The dog park did wonders for Ripple’s confidence and disposition, I hope it works for Cerby.
I’ve been hearing some horror stories about aussies, but then I’ve heard many horror stories about Shar Pei

I think my mother is going to be mad at me today.
I got a text from a cousin asking about her and I didn’t pay attention and sent my response to the entire cousin group text. She got mad at me for doing it before, I don’t know why, but with her there doesn’t have to be a reason.

However, I did say one thing in the group chat and I hope my sister doesn’t go running her mouth but I know she will. I told them that the doctors have given my mother six months and I think that is a generous estimate, and I do think that. However, I would never say that to my mother.

I think I need to go back to bed and start the day over.
I put the dogs out and thought while they are out back, I’ll water the plants out front. Then I don’t have to deal with them trying to get out the front door.
I came back in for more water and when I went back out, Adam was on the porch swishing his tail and BB&W cat was in the neighbor’s yard. They obviously do not like each other.
While I was watching them a young couple came down the sidewalk with a baby in a stroller and walking two dogs. I had said good morning to them and commented on how nicely their dogs walked past the cats and how my dogs would never be so nice. She said she had seen my dogs at the plunge and how nice they were. Right on cue my dogs came to the gate and started barking and then I don’t know how, they got out. All they did was run up to the other dogs to say Hi, then up to the porch where I was. I got Ripple in, but Echo saw BB&W cat and the chase was on. Around the yard, across and down the street. I yelled for my son and he jumped up out of bed and took off after her. He got her by the scruff but she got away so he ran in for her harness. Surprisingly, she came up to get her harness on, but she knows the harness means going bye-byes. Finally got her in, but we have no idea how they got out. The gate is latched. There is one spot that Echo can fit through, but we keep the trashcan there. I didn’t think Ripple’s fat ass could get through there, but maybe if he is sufficiently motivated.
At least all they want to do is say Hi and aren’t aggressive.

We’re going to go out later and my son is going to stand outside the gate to see if they will try to get to him. Guess it’s good we found it now than after Cerby gets here.

I shouldn’t pick on Niece2, she is taking excellent care of my mother. She has a good heart, but she doesn’t think. She is also totally optimistic; it never occurs to her that things could go wrong.

I need to get busy, I’ve not done much of anything today.

Home. FCD crawled under the flybridge console to sort wires - OMG! I couldn’t see in but he took pics, plus he said many bad words. We discussed future remedies, but for now, it’s at least in some degree of order.

We cleared out a few more abandoned wires and we’ve started labeling others. Slowly but surely…

On the way home, FCD saw a highchair on the side or the road with a sign that said FREE, so we stopped and nabbed it. I cleaned it with the pressure washer - the seat cover will go in the wash on Moanday. But it will be great for dealing with the Tobester at mealtimes. So huzzah!!

The rest of the day is dedicated to chillage, because.

Howdy Y’all! Mowage did not get accomplished. The motivation was not there. Furthermore I don’t care. After all, I am retired, so I don’t want to, I don’t have to, you can’t make me. Much sloth along with quality cee-mint pond time and nappage did get accomplished, however.

Afternoon all. Slept a bit later than I planned and couldn’t get my morning message out. Was assistant referee on two 14U Boys games, I was worried about being able to keep up with them, but managed OK until late into the second game. Again into the 90’s and no rain today, so I’m certainly a redneck (and red arms and red legs) today. Came home and took a long bath to feel clean again. And of course I signed up for two more games tomorrow, so that’ll be 8 total for the weekend. Won’t be at the gym but I think I’m getting a pretty fair workout…

FCM, nice Freebie, amazing what a little cleaning can do.

Sari, sounds like the dogs are enjoying the weather; and I’ve been known to open my mouth at times when I shouldn’t, so don’t fret. And hope you figure the miracle doggie escape route.

Sunny, hope the new pup adjusts to the madhouse quickly.

Frenchie, that’s hot…I lived in Abu Dhabi for 4 years, and I know hot and that is hot.

Wheelie, hope your friend is doing better and enjoy the game(s)

OK, tired out from scrolling up for the last 24 hours; hugs and mugs to all of you. The mention of father’s day makes me think about getting my Sunday dinner tonight rather than running into the mob tomorrow; I’ll see if I can work up the gumption to get dressed or not.

All ya’all take care.

Buddy has definitely figured out the evening serving of canned gunk. Had both cats patrolling the kitchen while I was dishing it up. They get served well away from each other to avoid squabbles. They share the water and kibble civilly enough, but I think we’d have fights over the canned food.

Feeling a good deal better now, with no aches and body temp back to my usual range. Left shoulder still feels tender from shots, but I expect that to take a day or two to clear up.

Canceled my haircut because the farrier said he could be out this morning to do Ariel and Bubbles’s feetz. Bubbles is my friend’s horse and she had to irk so I brought Bubbles in, held Ariel, had a riding lesson, put Bubbles and Ariel out, cleaned water buckets, cleaned my bridle, fed the teeter babes (kittens). I was ready to go home when Bubbles’s mom came out so spent another 4 hours yakking.

Bubbles’s real name is Potanio. We just call him Bubbles.

wheelie, I hope that your friend’s ankle heals quickly and he can keep up with you for the rest of the trip.

Yay on the NoNaNeDo sunny. You’ll find a name that fits soon enough.

Spent the day working on my SIL’s birthday present (the party is next Saturday and I made her a set of tea themed greeting cards) and will make a nice little box and gift tag for it this evening.

Picked up a prescription and was pleasantly surprised that the 3 month co-pay went down to $6.07. I also picked up a bottle of rice vinegar while I was at Tar-jay and stopped at Cook Out for a stoner supper to go.

Of course! GG isn’t much of a cuddle cat yet, he’s got too much shit to do! He is entertaining though. If we time your visit for a beer cooking day it will give us lots to talk about as we sip and watch. (I am willing to ship mead if you want to treat your roomie.)

Well darn, it bites when someone manages to hurt themselves at the beginning of a long anticipated trip. I hope you both have a great time anyhow.

Both of the shingles shots kicked my butt and I understand that it’s very normal to feel like crap for a couple of days after.

Sounds like some cats i’ve had in the past. All is good until one bends a whisker wrong and then they are all hissy slappy. Then it’s over and they are giving eath other baths and stuff.

Watching the Stanley Cup Finals(Not sure what they did with the Stanley Plate and Stanley Cutlery Set).

Good pickup on the Freecycle zone, FCM.

Hope Ron is gonna be OK, Wheelz.

I’m glad we’re supposed to have a relatively temperate weekend, because my a/c halfway crapped out earlier this evening. (It’s just blowing air, and not cooling; I shut it off and opened a window for now.)
