Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot- An Heatwave MMP

Hubs rubbed his elbow against the edge of a door, so I grabbed our first aid tub. Most folks have a few band-aids and a roll of surgical tape. We have an entire tub of assorted band-aids, athletic tape, gauzes (rolls or pads) and tapes. He sure does leak a lot.

Over the winter, he was wearing long sleeves and didn’t leak nearly as much, now he’s back in short sleeves and I’m patching holes every other day or so.

You probably want to keep it off until you have someone out to look at it. ACs use Freon as a lubricant so you can do real damage to your compressor by running it low.

I found my ‘apple bowl’ pipe from the '80s. I had some 30year-old tobacco on the shelf. Why not? I smoked a bowl. I didn’t inhale. It was pleasant.

Yeah, I’ve had some bourbon…

Holy guacamole! It’s 55° here a the moment! We had to pull the comforter over us last night (yeah, the windows are open.) It’s not going to last - by Tuesday, we’ll be back in the 90s, but for now, it’s loverly!

Not positive what the day’s plans will be - FCD was really hurting after yesterday. So we shall see. I need to watch Tobias tomorrow morning while SIL goes to PT, and after that, I’ll run some errands since I’ll be in that neck of the woods - e.g. near Aldi and WalMart and such. I expect we may go to the boat at least for a bit today, because I know my spousal unit.

Daughter contacted us about helping with Roxy’s tuition next year. When she started at the preschool, we were able to pay for her tuition in full, but thanks to some unpleasantly unexpected expenses (HVAC, spousal crown, several auto repairs, taxes, life…) we haven’t got a big pile of cash to spare. But it is important that Roxy continue at that school. And since Daughter has a new, better paying job, we don’t have to cover it all anyway. So we worked out a 60-40 deal to start, and if they get into a real pinch, we can throw in a little more. SIL’s folks won’t help, for reasons. Whatever - we’ll do what we can. I’ll also talk to them about continuing to put away the tuition amount in a savings account for when Tobias is old enough to go. Then maybe we won’t have to kick in at all.

Speaking of finances, MIL is a step closer to letting us deal with their finances. They had to write 2 checks the other day, and it took over an hour! MIL can’t see to write and FIL is just so out of it… Once she decides to let go, we’ll set up online accounts for their bank and their VISA. And we’re hoping they’ll send FCD the checkbook so we can write the checks for them (or have the bank send them directly, if that’s a service they offer.) FCD is already on their bank account.

We were also talking about handling their estate - I’ll be surprised if either of them live more than another year. But apart from a few pieces of furniture that FIL built that we’ll keep in the family, there’s nothing of theirs that we want. So I suggested we just sell the house furnished, including dishes and linens and such. I would think that would appeal to someone looking for a second home, or a rental property. Of course, when the time comes, we’ll discuss it with a real estate agent.

Caffeination continues - Happy Sunday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 95 and N.O.S. for the day. The good news is this is just normal hawt not heat advisory/warning hawt. The big plan of the day is deheathenization (I get to plop in a pew with OYKW and just be today). We shall return to da cave for sammiches for N.O,L. Sup shall be roast beast, Baby N.O.T. and carrots, baby lima beans and rolls. Nappage and possible quality cee-mint pond time shall also ensue.

Wheelie hope your friend is better today.

MetalMouse don’t overdo it out there. Keep hydrated.

MOOOOOOM good freebie score! Also, good for y’all for helpin’ with RoxStar’s tuition and here’s hopin’ FCD’s 'rents do let him take over the finances.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all! Happy Father’s Day to all you Mumper dads of creatures both great and small!

I know what you mean Mooooooom. It was 57 when I just walked Nelson, but like you, it will be normal summer temps this week. The cool of the morning does mean that he can go with me to pick up a Marketplace buy though.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do Sunday chores before heading about an hour northwest to make a really good buy. Even with the gas (Mapquest estimates six dollars and change), I’ll come out about $100 ahead.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

90s in Mipples for the next few days; may even crack 100 tomorrow. We’ll likely spend faddah’s day breaking down packing boxes and disposing of same. I just realized the car registration/plates expire this month, so as a new resident I’ll have to go stand in line at the DMV to get new ones; it’s not like I’ve got anything else to do.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 15c/59f today with predicted highs of 17c/63f and cloudy. Hopefully it will rain and that will keep the noisy neighbours indoors for the day. Weather app and I agree today, “I’m completely apathetic with this merely fucking so-so day”.

I’d like to have no plans for the day but I need to vacuum the floors, and the bedding needs to be changed and shoved in the wash so that will get done (after at least one more cup of tea). And it’s my turn to make dinner tonight, which will be chilli 'cos it’s easy and I don’t feel like doing anything complicated.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. I have an attack of Feline Paralysis, but luckily my Mr. Coffee has a thermal carafe, so I still have caffeine withing reach. Gordie is currently wrapped in his towel, dreaming. It’s 61 degrees Ferret Height outside.

Hope the InLaws do let you take over the finances, Moooommmm.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 51 and cloudy with an expected high of 65. The day will remain cloudy to partly cloudy with some rain showers moving in by evening.

I have to take Polar to the vet today and after I bring him home we’ll head up to the kids’. That’s the extent of my plans except for the minutia of picking up dessert, etc.

Yesterday we gave Polar a bath. Normally, at this time of year, we do it outside. It was too cool to do that, especially considering that we end up taking a bath too. Anyway, after the bath, we each took a shower, and then I did laundry and took care of other assorted chores.

Welp, it’s time for my second cup of coffee and then I need to get into the shower. I hope you all have a terrific day!

Breakfast was homemade biscuits, homemade loganberry jam, scrambled aigs, bacon and coffee. First baking I’ve done in the new hizzle. Cramped kitchen, but doable if you clean/clear as you go. The electric oven takes forever to preheat to 450, though.

Ron’s ankle turned out to be much better yesterday. He stayed in bed all morning, then we toured the Capitol building in the afternoon.
Then we went across the street for a pregame beer - well, beers - and he decided he felt up to walking to the ballpark, and he did just fine, so that’s a relief.

Really nice, inviting little ballpark they have here, and a post-game fireworks show helped make it a fun night, despite a home-team loss.

We’re off to Myrtle Beach today.

Good morning, everyone! 'Tis a sunshiny, glorious day here. I’ve been busy doing family history stuff. I want to have part one (previous generations) done before I go to Chicago to be with family (mid-July). The closer I get to my generation, the more there is to write about. All of the next generation remembers my mom, who had a wonderful ability to make each grandchild feel cherished, but my dad died when most of them were small and two weren’t born yet, and I want them to know him, a wise and kindly man who embodied integrity. My siblings are sick of hearing me talk about the project, even though they dumped it on me.

Shortly I shall walk to the grocery store–only 2.2 miles round trip, as Sunday is my easy day. There I shall procure cider vinegar to apply to my itchy self. I’m a bad subject for placebo trials, as I never believe wholeheartedly anything’s likely to work. The doc phoned in a new antihistamine for me, so I’ll hold off on vinegar application until I see how the new Rx works. Must be scientific about these things!

sari, Hope you find the dog leak in the fence and that your sister decides to keep her trap shut about mom’s prognosis. Some people have a hard time doing that, I know.

MetalMouse, sounds like quite the workout!

Wheelie, glad your friend’s ankle is better. I enjoy reading about your travels.

I’m out of cat food, so Monkey has informed me I gotta hit the store. Have put on my best “I look homeless” gear, so off to Wally World it is!

@JaneDoe42, think you’ve got it bad with a ditzy adolescent kitten?

Hehehe! The black kitty and kittens were one of my fav’s, thank you!

Our wood dining chairs have a cross hatch pattern on the back and when GG was little, I was afraid he would fall through the center hole and get hurt. When he got bigger, he started jumping through the hole on his way up or down.

Now that he’s a big jerkface, he can’t get on the chairs because we push them in and he’s too big to fit. A few days ago, someone forgot to push a chair all the way in and GG tried to jump through the hole, got stuck and and would have pulled the chair over on himself but it got hung up on the table.

Of course this had to happen at zero dark thirty so we were woken up to him squalling like he was getting skinned. It took both of us to get him unstuck. I doubt he has learned his lesson, but we sure have! All chairs WILL be pushed in and I’ve ordered some decorative covers which will hide the holes.

You are thinking again. Stop that!!!

A long time ago, I got it in my mind that drinking milk after dark would make me sleepy. I’m sure there was a basis in fact somewhere, I don’t remember, all I know is that it works. A juice glass of milk will put me out faster than a sleeping pill. I have absolutely NO interest in learning any more about why this works or shouldn’t work. I have a cheap, fast, effective sleep aid and I can’t see any reason to fix something that isn’t broken.

Home again. I forgot to take my phone, so no updates while we worked - sorry.

We tore out the doors and the panel where the radio was mounted, and it was lots easier for FCD to work under the fly bridge console. He not only cleaned up all the wire mess, but he dug out a bunch of mud dauber nests and vacuumed miscellaneous detritus. Progress, slow, but progress nonetheless.

While I was up on the flybridge, I noticed a boat on an adjacent dock that looked awfully low in the water. So we reported it to the marina staff, but while it’s not exactly floating right, it’s not sinking. And the staff is aware, so there’s that. If it’s a problem, they can notify the owner. Good deed done.

Daughter’s tribe stopped by the boat, then we all went to Roy Rogers for lunch. Afterwards, we went back to the boat and they took the kids to the playground. So it was a nice Father’s Day. I’m about to haul the laundry downstairs - maybe I can get a couple of loads done tonight so I can help at the boat again tomorrow. What I really want is ice cream I may have to run to the dollar store…

I know that’s hot because that’s what it gets around here although we’re having a few cool days so when it does get hot again we can feel like we’re

you know if I lived near ya id have to give you money for groceries because id be eating dinner at your house 3-4 times a week lol I can and like cooking but not every day …

cookie, one of the things that I miss about a big kitchen is workspace to roll out biscuits, pie crust or knead bread. Small apartments rarely have this.

Happy father’s day to all of the Mumper dads!

Picked up the Marketplace deal and was going to hit the drive thru for brunch. However, being out in BF Tennessee, there were no drive thrus. :frowning: I had to make do with a bag of salted peanuts and some bad gas station coffee (the only thing that they had hot was some dubious sausage / pineapple pizza and there was little choice smaller than 2 liters for diet soda).

I corrected the light breakfast (a peach) and light brunch with some cabbage roll soup and columorbus. It hit the spot.

Walked to the store. En route, a guy I passed told me the following:

• “We’re all headed toward death.” (No surprise there.)
• “No sex. No orgies.” (Now wait just a minute, fella.)
• “My wife murdered me in February. I’m dead.” (Oh, sh*t, poor ill man.)

I asked where he was headed to figure out if he needed 911. He said, “You don’t need to know.” I agreed and wished him well. He was dressed in nice clothes and well-groomed. Dang. I hate that there are so many people who desperately need mental health care wandering around.

I disposed of Al Vocado. I told it, “You tried. I tried.” There’ll probably be a news story someday about a giant avocado tree growing out of a landfill.

The NWS lied again. That’s what happens when you day drink on the job. It’s very cloudy and nowhere near the 67º forecast. Right now they’re probably sword fighting with swizzle sticks and paper umbrella shields.

One of my favorite dogs was in our little dog park as I walked by. She’s a very lively Portugese Water Dog (I think.) Turns out her person is also from Chicago. She’s having surgery next month, so I said I’d walk the pupper and help out .

I used to kid myself that I could stop at any time, but I can’t meditate or watch Fox News, so I’ve accepted that I’m a hard-core cognition addict. I did buy apple cider vinegar, though.

Sing it, sister! The mind is capable of some pretty incredible things. The placebo effect just makes me aware of that. Plus the amino acids in milk ARE supposed to aid sleep, last I heard.

Howdy Y’all! I ended up servin’ today. My co-Verger aka the A team, texted me this mornin’. She has been havin’ back problems as is scheduled for surgery mid-July and was hurtin’ this mornin’. I told her to stay home and rest, so she did and I served. No worries cause I know when she does have the surgery she will be out of commission for several weeks and I am all prepared to be it for a while. We got back to da cave and had sammiches and nappage. We early supped a little after four and it was good if’n I do say so myself, plus leftovers for Tuesday. Tomorrow is men’s night over to the church house so that will be sup. Also, steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. The biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow, as well. Now much chillage and sloth ensues.

shades you’d be welcome to sup with us anytime. I don’t cook everyday. We eat out a fair amount of time, plus there tends to be leftovers which neither of us mind. However, we would not want to eat out everyday cause we’re cheap plus that requires attire acceptable to be out amongst the great unwashed which we avoid as much as possible.

Nellie I tend to be skeptical of the placebo effect, as well. I hope the stuff the doc calls in works, but if it doesn’t, no harm in tryin’ JtC’s remedy. You met a zombie today. Impressive!

red too bad you couldn’t have had peanuts and diet Coke. A true southern gourmet delight!

Wheelie glad you’re friend’s foot is better and y’all got to go do stuff.
