Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot- An Heatwave MMP

We actually seem to have some playing going on between cats. I’m seeing pounces, but ears aren’t flattened, fur isn’t puffed up, no one’s yowling or snarling or growling or hissing…

Lucky you.

The hottest predicted temp here in the coming week is 69°. <snerk>
Where I’ll be living this time next year, it’s 110°. :astonished:

Speaking of which, our estimated closing date has been set as February 14. How romantic. I like that date, because we don’t want to take any more money out this year ‘cause of taxes. That’ll give us time to get the down-payment liquid after the first of the year.

The foundation has been framed, and pending inspection, should be poured later this week.

Tobester is here, shrieking and babbling, and grunting - I think I’ve got a messy diaper awaiting changing. Then I’ll stuff some food in his face so he can fill another diaper.

FCD came home to fix the boarding ladder - it was too difficult to work in the engine room without me there to hand him tools and stuff. So after UPS brings our package, we’ll go back. After lunch.

Not really. I’m sorry you’re feeling wonky.

Nettie I’m glad kittehs are getting along so well.

@JaneDoe42 I’m sorry your friend isn’t doing well. Are you able to do a FaceTime visit? I’m not sure if the VA does those. Hugs to you and Mr. Cane.

FCM I’m glad FCM made it home safely.

Like Nettie, our temps are in the almost 100s all week. I’ve noticed that TWPTB have been sliding forecasts around on a daily basis, so we’ll see what actually happens. Some of the PNW storm systems have been sliding further south than expected, and keeping our temps down. I’ll hope for a reprieve.

I had truly terrible dreams all night. They were so bad that I woke myself up at 2am and almost didn’t go back to sleep. I talked myself into trying again, and they were awful. I woke up feeling like I was going to have a stroke from high blood pressure, and my teeth hurt from grinding them. I don’t know what’s going on, but I don’t like it. I’m definitely starting the day on the wrong foot.

I need to do something about my bed. We bought this 10 years ago at a discount place. It’s got dips in it, and I’m waking up sore and hunched over. We’re trying to save our pennies for the house, so I don’t know what to do. I was considering a mattress topper, but a good one will cost as much as a halfway decent mattress from Costco. Costco is looking pretty good to me right now. Another 4-5 months of this do NOT appeal.

It turns out that my mom’s heart valve may be failing. She did not tell me (grr), but fortunately my sister did. I’m going over there in a bit to gently enquire what’s up. She’s in excellent health otherwise, so hopefully something can be done. My sister also told me that she is having autoimmune problems, which started after her heart valve surgery. She’s having trouble getting a doctor to do more than order tests that confirm that yes, she has autoimmune problems. She needs a referral to a specialist and so far can’t get one. This, folks, is the problem with Kaiser in a nutshell.

Oh well. I’m off, as Swampy says, to put on clothes to go about the public. I shall go down to my mom’s for a chat and to collect apricots.

Take care everyone. Happy Monday.

Short day and short handed. I endined up on tthe 200 sort table. I was sent to the slide, but had to go back since the one girl got stressed and ran off because the table was 15% full. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

North Carolina.
It’s a wet heat

Welcome home, WetOne.

Good morning! Taking a break from watching the Jan. 6th committee hearings. I try to watch critically, plus I think how I’d view them if I were a die-hard truth-denier and then argue with that view in my head. Somehow I always win the imaginary arguments.

I have calls to make at 9, when offices open, a hair cut appointment at 11, and then the gym, plus odds and ends around the apartment. Such is my day.

High in the low 60’s here. I’m not sorry we’re not getting blasted with triple-digits, but like wguy123, I worry about fires later in the summer–or if we don’t get a dry spell, next year. I hate fire season with a passion, even though I’ve spent my entire adult life in places where it’s inevitable.

JtC, I’m so sorry about your friend. What he’s going through sounds horrible, but if it weren’t for you and hubs, he’d be going through it alone and under a viaduct somewhere. True friends can do no more.

Welcome home, WetOne!

sunny, hoping your mom gets the care she needs. I’m not a fan of HMO’s and pay more to avoid them, but maybe with you and sister’s help, she can finagle a referral to a specialist? Also, sorry about the bad dreams. Mom used to say nightmares are your brain’s way of giving itself “a good cleaning out,” so hopefully your nice, clean subconscious will give you pleasant dreams tonight.

FCM, did you get a derm appointment?

@nightshadea: I thought you might appreciate this picture from the Antelope Valley, 1 March 1902.

9:45 on Firday! So yay!!!

Tobester has been de-pooped, fed, and after some play time, he’s now napping, just like his grandpa! The strainer insert was delivered, but FCD doesn’t want to go back today - he said his legs are really hurting. Daughter and SIL are on their way to their house with her classroom stuff. They should be back here within the hour… theoretically.

I need to run to the post office after the babby goes home. I’m down to 2 stamps!! Of course, they could last 2 more months, but I’d rather not take the chance.

I’m half listening to the Jan 6 hearings. I’ll admit I never liked Trump, even before he got into politics, but if he doesn’t wind up in jail or an insane asylum, there is no justice in this world! And Rudy should be his roomie…

Well, mail is mailed, shopping is done, and sammich acquired and devoured, so in about an hour I’ll head over to the gym and try to get my mile o’swimmin’ in. Aready 93F and it isn’t even noon yet.

{sunny}, hope the HMO can be brought to heel and your Mom gets the help she needs. And a new bed may not be a bad idea in helping with the dreams.

Y’all sure doggio is visiting you?

Seanette, nice that some feline peace has been negotiated.

Welcome home wet one. And yeah, I’ve done the customs shuffle in Chi-town, not a whole lot of fun.

OK, need to get my bathing suit on and find something to read in the sauna, so all y’all take care.

Morning, all. First Monday of vacation and the cats haven’t read the memo. Pixel was in my face at 6am, poking and prodding and yowling like she hadn’t been fed in weeks. Then her sister joined in. Sigh. I’d be happy to get up early and get chores done while it’s cool except A) I have very few chores on the list for today, and B) it’s going to be a good 10 degrees cooler today than it was yesterday.* Oh, well…

Finally got new plants for in front of the office window. I’d been looking for a dwarf pomegranate for months, but they seem to have vanished around these parts. So I got a Dwarf Variegated Lemon and a Dwarf Olive to put in half-barrels. Took me over 6 decades to realize, but if you put the barrels on dollies before you fill them with soil they move around a lot easier! Who knew? In any case the squadrons of hummingbirds and flocks of finches will like having new places to nest and feed, so it’s all good. The first of the sunflowers is blooming and it’s color sets off the snapdragon next to it quite nicely.

Stay cool, peeps. The Summer hasn’t even started yet.

    • ETA: The literal second I hit “Reply” the A/C kicked on. “Cool,” it seems, is relative.

Predicted highs:
Today 63
Tomorrow 66
Weedsday 78
Thorsday 72
Fryday 69 (snerk)
Satturday 73
Sonday 71
next Moonday 73

It’s that time of year around here when you need an extra doorknob so’s you can hang your jeans on one and your shorts on another, and you check the forecast every morning to decide what to put on, if anything.

Sorry about your mom Sunny. I hope you can get Kaiser sorted. I don’t like them myself.

Mom, can’t FCD take his phone down in the engine room with him and call out if he gets stuck down there?
And as for justice in the world, I’m afraid there’s precious little of that, but we can keep hoping the old liar-in-chief gets some before he dies.

I watched a couple of hours of the Jan 6th hearings last week, but didn’t see or hear anything I hadn’t already seen and heard, so I’ve been avoiding it for the sake of my blood pressure.

Had to order a new exhaust hose for the portable A/C last night 'cause Home Depot didn’t have any in store. I’d think there’d be a demand for them, considering how flimsily they’re made, but oh well.

Somebody gave me a BIG plastic pot a while back and Wifey wants to plant a tomato plant in it up on the deck. She figures the deer won’t go up there to eat it. I hope she’s right. Anyway I need to drill some holes in he bottom of the pot for her today so she can plant it.
Don’t have any dollies though. Prolly oughta get some, or make some.

I might go out and work on the irritation irrigation system today. It’s got a couple of leaks in it. I know where they are but one of them’s going to be a b*tch to fix.

But first: breakfast!

Show off.

Nope.

But if I had triple digits in celsius, I probably wouldn’t be alive. High on Saturday will be (only) 30 C / 86 F. It will be uncomfortable.

Today we switched duvets from the spring/fall medium weight to the summer weight duvet. We never changed the duvet last summer - it never got warm enough.

Neighbors are gone until Tuesday, so I’m on plant watering duty. I will have some work to do this week.

It’s a short week, because Thursday is Happy Cadaver day (Fronleichnam / Corpus Christi). German is weird. We’re taking Friday off as well, so we’ll get a 4 day weekend.

Did a bit of a downhill trod yesterday - 1270 m / 4170 ft in 12.5 km / 7.75 miles. We’re both walking a bit funny today - especially after sitting a while. Probably won’t do that particular hike again, but now we can say we did it.

Took advantage of the improved food delivery choices and got Indian delivered. That’s one of the benefits of the last 2+ years of Covid mess.

We had thought we would go to London or Amsterdam this summer, but there’s too many stories of flight delays, so we’ll do all our flight stress in the U.S. Glad we have Global Entry, but that can only do so much.

It’s cold and rainy… 52 degrees F, and snow is expected in the mountains above 5,000 feet. I sure wish it was hotter here.

I mowed the lawns, mowed the weeds at the side of the house, inflicted mower-violence on some ivy, weeds, and blackberries in the unusable back side of the yard, and helped SWMBO to clear off the deck so she can pressure-wash it tomorrow. We have to take the cats in for shots in a couple of hours, and later I’ll buy a couple of gallons of gas.

Where did you arrange financing?

S’posed to hit 96 tomorrow in Mipples, with humidity in the 40s. We’re taking the RV down to a local Camping World to sell it to the dealership. We should be looking at mid-40K, which isn’t bad for a 12-year old Class B van. They’ll likely sell it for $50K+, but at least I will no longer have to pay storage, winterizing, insurance, etc. on it. We’ve loved having it, but it’s time to let it go. Sad, but inevitable. I looked at new ones and the prices are just outrageous now for van-style RVs. I’d rather rent a cabin on a lake somewhere.

Afternoon all. Swimmin’ has been accomplished, did the mile in 62:20 today along with whirlpool and sauna time, and the scale in the dressing room shows 282.6 lbs, which is still pretty big but much less than I used to be. Guess I’ll keep on doing this exercise thing. temperature shows a modest 94F.

Cookie, hope your figuring is good, that’s a nice windfall after years of service.

Flipper, be glad to share some of my heat if I could…

I always told people when I had to go to a Army Depot in Texas that I was heading for Body of Christ, Texas…got some interesting looks that way…

OK, need to clean out the dishwasher (I’m really really going to do it this time) and visit some other sites, while figuring out how to use Whatapp on my cell phone. Take care all.

I didn’t get to this yesterday, but at least I’m prepared for next year.
