Just got off the red-eye from SFO to ORD. Did not sleep.
Waiting now to board my flight to Charlotte and get started on the Baseball Trip. Fortunately, my travel buddy got there last night, so the room has already been secured. My first order of business will be a nap.
Morning all. Mowage is the main thing today, at least the back yard; will probably start about 9:30am, hopefully everyone will be awake by then and since it is already 85F at 8am today, just a difference between very hot and really hot… Ah well, swimmin’ is also on the schedule, so that will help cool me off.
Wheelie, glad the flights are going OK.
OK, onward into Hump Day.
I’m taking Akiko in to the vet today for a routine followup on her lupus. Fingers crossed we can lower her prednisone some more.
The hummingbirds are getting puckish. I have a couple of squadrons that are waging a turf war over my feeders, and they’ve noticed that A) there is a large window next to one of the feeders, B) the cats sit on the window sill and watch them, and C) it’s a window. Now they’ve started flying down and hovering 6 inches from Tango’s nose, just to watch him get frustrated he can’t nab one of them. The Anna’s hummingbirds are especially flirty.
It’s the little things…
Here in upstate NY, the hummingbirds visiting my feeder seem smaller this year. Also dumber. They keep trying to go to the regular seed feeder, not theirs, all of 5 feet away. I did have to get them a new feeder as the old one committed suicide–the top plastic bit just gave up and the whole thing smashed. Maybe they don’t like the new one?
sunny Best wishes on the vet trip.
It’s cloudy and cool, slated to become partly cloudy, with a high in the upper 60s. No complaints here. I’m still worried about dry weather later in the season, but heck, in my Montana and Wyoming years, we had terrible fire seasons after hot, dry springs (like '88, the year of the infamous Yellowstone fires), so for now, I’m grateful for each cool day. School isn’t out here, yet, so I’m sure teachers are grateful, too: summery weather unleashes the Wild Thing in kids, and they’re bursting to let the Wild Rumpus start.
I’m trying to get the family history done, or at least Part I, before I leave for Chicago in a month. I got slowed last night by a couple of ancestors who had 18 and 19 kids respectively. One poor woman had her firstborn at 20 and her last at 57. I’m as lusty as the next person, but after the first 15, I’d have taken a machete to bed in case Mister got any amorous notions. ![]()
FCM, I’m glad the cause of death was something that wouldn’t inflict more pain on the family. I think I read–or maybe the doc told me?- when my son was a baby (so eons ago) that drool means the baby’s system is gearing up for eventually eating real food, and it won’t stop until there are enough teeth to hold it in. This was no comfort, but it did motivate me to take care of my own teeth.
I don’t want to be known around the old folks home as Droolin’ Nellie.
shoe, glad you posted and that you have Coolio. Also the critters and whatever life-affirming influences you have.
swampy, so sorry about your Good Guy friend.
sunny, I had no idea dogs could get lupus. Tell Akiko I empathize and wish him good health. (Or just give him a treat. Probably more uplifting.)
Hot but surviable heave. It looks like Captain Queeg got moved somewhere else in the building.

I had a bowl of Aldi frosted shredded wheat for brunch. The processing machine must have been on the fritz, half the wheat biscuits have a Little Debbie snack cake level of frosting. ![]()
[House]It’s never lupus[/House] But fingers crossed for Akiko.
Sorry about your loss, swampy.
Safe travels, Wheelz!
Happy Hump Day!
It’s 85 degrees here, supposed to get up to 88.
Not so bad, although the humidity is high.
The brats are at daycare, and I am inside with the AC trying to get stuff done.
Poor Echo had a bit of an accident at the park the other day. She ran over to jump up on the table and the bench broke in half. Had her sprawled out and scrambling to get on the table. It’s a good thing it broke on her and not on somebody sitting down. She’s only 45 pounds so it didn’t take much. The bench was a bit saggy so we had turned the table around so none of us sit on the saggy side, but I know other people sit there.
The park has been quiet though. Barky mom is still sick and it’s been raining most mornings too.
My mother goes back to the doctor today, supposed to be chemo day, but she decided not to continue. Niece1 said they are going to talk about radiation maybe, but I think nothing is going to help. I also found out she has cellulitis, not phlebitis. She has to wear a compression hose and put her feet up. Her feet have turned purple, which is bad, and if they turn black, they will have to be amputated. Niece2 is on her all day long to keep her feet up. My mother tries to bitch to me about it but I tell her to lay down, put her feet up, and deal with it.
To add to the annoyance, she can’t get some of her prescriptions filled because of supply chain issues.
I think everybody has come around to accepting that my mother is dying and nothing can be done.
Niece1 says my mother is in denial, and I said that is fine. Let her be.
Everything else is annoying. I don’t know why everything takes multiple phone calls to finish. I’m annoyed. I took yesterday off irk, and I took today off too.
I called a new doctor, first time ever a doctor told me they had to review my paperirk before they would accept me as a patient. My appointment is in two weeks. I have to make reservations with the daycare now. I got confirmation back on Ripple but not on Echo. It took two days to find out if it was okay to bring both. I’m still trying to pay my son’s ambulance bill, because they won’t accept the payment because the insurance company paid part of it but the ambulance people say they never got the payment. Every month I get a nasty letter saying the bill is overdue, and every month they refuse to take the payment. Unemployment still hasn’t been resolved.
Most of yesterday and today has been dealing with all this crap. I was hoping to get more done than I have. I may end up taking tomorrow off too.
Irk is really getting in the way of life right now.
The lawn guy never showed up a few weeks ago, but my son has been whacking the backyard. With all the rain we’ve been having, the backyard is now a mini jungle. The lawn guy is supposed to come by tomorrow.
I know a black guy who got a sunburn. He was flipping out thinking he had some deadly skin disease until one of his white friends told him to chill out, he was just peeling.
I hope Akiko’s visit goes well.
Okay read lots, retained little.
Now back to dialing.
Talked to nice phone doctor, he wants me to lower the aspirin dose and he somehow worked some magic on the appointment system to get me to an in-person appointment on Friday. Assuming nothing else goes wrong.
The cats are at cautiously civil. The bird is noisy.
Afternoon all. The backyard is mowed and the swimmin’ and sauna is done, so if the weather holds off (I heard some thunder a few minutes ago, but no rain yet) I’ll try and get the front yard mowed after dinner…
Seanette, glad you were able to get an appointment.
Sari, sounds like a lot of medium things that could be cleared up if JtC could whack a few people. Hope it all gets straightened out. And {{ }} for your Mom-unit.
Sunny, hope the vet trop went well.
quietly, love how you describe the hummingbirds and cats; could be quite a good you tube…
OK, going to watch a little TV and then look to dine prior to finishing mowage. I’ve already bathed twice (bath after morning mowing and shower at the gym post-sauna) so maybe I’ll go for three baths in one day…take care all.
Put some pot pie in your pie hole shoe! It;s good fer ya. ![]()
Moooooom, I’m glad that the cause of your nephew’s death didn’'t bring on more distress.
Have fun wheelie!
silenus, your hummingbirds and cats are funny. When I had cats, they would perch in the upstairs window with the porch roof below them and a large maple tree in front of the house. The birds would walk up on the roof and taunt the cats through the screen. ![]()
I’m sorry about your friend swampy. The world needs more good guys.
May the remainder of your mother’s life be peaceful sari. Hugs to you all.
We’re having a cold snap. It was actually (barely) in double digits today when I got off irk. It’s supposed to be in teh eighties this weekend and 90s-100 next week. Oh, well.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
The kids have gone home and quiet reigns again. I made chicken-grape-pecan salad - it was pretty good. I think I’m going to have a handful of grapes, too.
T-storms are threatened for tomorrow - we shall see.
That’s all I’ve got. Mostly a boring day here.
Og bless popsicles. I have staged a massive amount of trash by the door, but desperately need help with the fridge. (No power for a month = ewww. It’s a haz-mat zone in there.) Need new job, but don’t have the mental capacity yet.
I did eat today - yesterday’s pot pie but hey, it’s solid food.
hangs head in shame
Howdy Y’all! We funeralized, it was outside but under some big oak trees so at least it was shady plus we had church fans, I took care of candle duty, ‘scripts got picked up, N.O,L, got consumed, and provisions procured. We got back to da cave about one-thirty, stowed provisions, got into our comfies and proceded to accomplish nappage. Lots of sloth and stayin’ outta the heat (101 Amurrkin out as I post) now in progress. Any further need to feed will be via forage. Hopefully we’ll get a tstorm a little later on as TWPTB say one’s a comin’.
shoe glad you et. May coolio keep you cool.
sunny hope Akiko can come down from the prednisone.
sari hope stuff gets straightened out and your mom continues to do as well as she can.
Hummingbirds do make for some fun entertainment. One of these days maybe we’ll put up a feeder or two.
Wheelie have fun!
Nettie yay for gettin’ an in person doc appointment!
MOOOOOOM glad your brother and sil now know the cause of death. It might not be a huge comfort, but hopefully some comfort in knowin’ it was not suicide.
It’s sister and BIL, but yeah, it’s good to know. It makes me want to go back in time and smack my nephew upside the head for not seeing a doctor. He had health insurance, but I guess he thought he was immortal, as many 30-somethings do. Anyway, this makes moving forward a bit easier.
I had grapes. I want Tin Roof Sundae, but I don’t have any, and I’m not leaving the house, so I shall suffer… < pose of woe>
Doing it’s best. Got kinda humid 'round these parts lately. WTF summer? Go away. I want winter back!
In Mali, our house had a kitchen window facing west, so they put a one-way mirror in the window frame to cut down on heat gain and glare. We had a gecko that would sit on the wall opposite the window and make aggressive moves, then run down the wall, up the house wall, and attack the mirror image. There was also a bird that would land on the sill and do mating dances to his image.
sari my best wishes to you and your mom. {{{hugs}}}
nettie I’m glad the dr was helpful. I hope it continues to be so.
Akiko is cleared to lower her prednisone. Her liver values are elevated, so the sooner we can get it down the better. Her lupus is still in remission. ![]()
On an even better note, we have a new friend coming home on Friday - no name yet…
Someone left him in front of the vet last month in a kennel. They kept him for 30 days and we met him today. He’s a little shy, but I think we’ll win him over. Now we just need to find him a name.
Sunny, he’s a cutie and I’m sure you’ll bring out the best in him.
Front yard is mowed, we got a couple rumbles of thunder but no rain (my neighbor said it poured rain about 15 miles east of us, but we got nothing). Dinner was supposed to be Cheeburger, but I forgot to take it out of the freezer so BLT’s substituted. Need to finish the Wednesday crossword puzzle and head off to bed.
Catch all y’all Thorsday.
Well, last night the tornado sirens went off and roomie and I and 3 cats spent a tense late night hour in my funky basement. Joined by a bitty bat who must have heard the sirens and picked my basement to shelter in. Now I have to scour the basement for whatever crack he came in through. A 140 year old house has lots of cracks and crevices. It’s always something….
At least my lawn finally got mowed before my mean cranky neighbor turned me into the city. His name really is Mr. Schmuck and he acts like he’s earned it. I prepaid two different mowers who were no-shows for weeks. Pursued all the leads I could find. Everyone was booked solid. My roomie talked to few from Craigslist for estimates. I texted the most professional and pleasant one, in less than 90 minutes he and his co-worker had my lawn mowed and trimmed. deal! What a relief. And I’m on their list every two weeks from here on out. Take that, Schmuck! I treasure the victories however small.
Plus one of my pairs of new glasses were ready at Costco and I picked them up ($180 for two pairs of progressives-quite the deal!). At last I can see well enough again to read my beloved trashy novels from the library. The traumatic brain injury screwed up my vision in oh! so many ways but these whackadoodle prism lenses are amazing. I was getting depressed not being able to read like I used to be able to. So that would be 2 small victories for the day. These were my reading progressives book to computer distance ones. I have an all day everything else pair of progressives coming in any day now, but it was the not being able to read that was miserable. I worked hard at not picking little old lady frames. My readers are matte black Harry Potter with giraffe print ear pieces, the better to find them when they slip between the cushions on the couch. I also thought it would tickle my grand daughter if her Grandma has giraffe glasses.
