Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot- An Heatwave MMP

Got out the vintage percolator.

I understand completely! Our two sets of grand babies are the same, older girl child, new baby brother. I’m dealing with the same. Please let me know when you figure out the secret to peace and harmony.

Vent all you want~we’re here to listen and understand. I’ve got a 38 year old child that breaks my heart waaaay too often, so I feel yah!

Coffee machines are faithless heartbreakers. For 30 year I used a Mr. Coffee, resigning myself to having to buy new ones on short notice, usually because I broke the glass carafe. Then I was gifted with a entry level Keurig, which died 3 years later. The cost of the k-pods annoyed me, but since age and health issues connived to reduce my coffee to 1 to 2 :hot_beverage::hot_beverage: a day on doctors orders, I justified the extravagance. I was happy when my dear sister sent me another Keurig she found in an unopened box at an estate sale. I switched over to the reusable K-cups and my favorite locally roasted coffee but I always keep my venerable Corningware percolator close at hand for the next time the Keurig gives up the ghost or the power is out. My 33 year old housemate had never seen a percolator-she barely knew what a Mr. Coffee was. It’s reassuring to glance over to it decorating my stovetop and remember how good percolating coffee smells.

An unopened Keurig? That sounds like Christmas!

I’m a huge fan of my mom’s Nespresso - that stuff is strong and delicious (I like my coffee strong and thick enough to chew). I still can’t justify buying another coffee maker after I got a snazzy Ninja a while ago, but one day…one day, a Nespresso will be mine. (imagine scary music and evil laughter here)

I’m still on higher-than-healthy levels of antihistamines, and the itching never quite disappears. I have a telemedicine appointment on the 23rd. In the meantime, they’ve put me on even higher levels of antihistamines. I’m not complaining, though: a friend has a newly-developed autoimmune disorder that’s killing her red blood cells and is on high levels of prednisone, with its hellacious side effects. As my folks’ generation used to say, “Things are rough all over.”

Oh, and Al Vocado has had it. The anti-fungal treatment didn’t work. I’m too soft-hearted to just throw him away. I thought about sneaking him into the woods behind my house but won’t lest the fungus infects other plants.

cookie, my sympathies on being caught between a rock and a hard place. I hope your daughter sees the light.

metalmouse, my friend is fine and in no danger. The local economy will suffer, but she’s not dependent on it.

FCM, my kids are 9 years apart, so I never had your problem. I recall a friend who told her older daughter things like, “Too bad EMILY can’t help us bake cookies, but she’s just a baby, and babies can’t bake (or blow bubbles, or whatever), only big girls!” I can’t recall if it worked, though, so I’m no help. Let us know what you figure out.

Boo, congrats on new glasses! We should call you Peek-a-Boo.

I’ve fallen a bit behind on this thread due to bein’ on vacay, but yays, boos, hugs and love to all as appropriate.

Second day in Charlotte. Last night’s game was a good time. They have a very nice new-ish downtown ballpark. Once the sun went down it was pleasantly comfortable.

We toured the NASCAR Hall of Fame this afternoon. Good fun. There’s a big thunderboomer coming through Charlotte right now and we’re taking refuge in the hotel while it passes. Supposed to be out by game time tonight; we shall see.

Yeah. Just a small local thing, but from humble beginnings, right?

That must have been one heck of a water leak! I hope it does not cost much.

Howdy Y’all! We did some quality cee-mint pond time, but not for too long, then achieved nappage. We day drank and then fixed and et sup. Now we chill and sloth some more. Have I mentioned lately how much I lurve bein’ a retired drain on society?

Wheelie glad the vacay is goin’ good. I like a good tboomer, especially if’n I can watch it while inside and dry. My back porch is perfect for that.

roadrunner good luck with the singin’ gig. You’ll blow 'em all away provided the tornados don’t beat you to it. What? Somebody had to say it!

Yay for Akiko! Your new little guy is adorable sunny. You’ll get the name figured out soon.

shoe, you should have said something about the electricity. We would have tossed in a few shekels to keep you and the menagerie cool with refrigerated food.

Sorry about the daughter situation cookie.

Break a leg roadrunner!

Another 100F afternoon. it was so hot that I didn’t take Nelson for his usual Thursday afternoon romp at the dog park. However, we may pop into Sonic later this evening for some ice cream and a pup cup of whipped cream (with a milkbone garnish even!) for him. I’ll take him early in the morning a couple of days this weekend before it gets too stinkin’ hot.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Done with grands till Tuesday, so yay! And I had a free pizza coming to me from Domino’s, so supper was cheap! Now chillage shall ensue.

Tomorrow morning, FCD has a dental appt to finish his crown and I’ve got a dermatologist appt about this thing on my scalp. Afterwards, we’ll head to the boat. So we’ve got that to look forward to!

Unlikely. This has been her MO for 30 years now. At least she’s done with serious relationships, since they never work out (don’t get me started).

A friend of mine had a Nespresso~I understand the appeal!

Evening all. Watered the back yard and rode the bike at the gym, which led to nappage. Have checked in for the soccer tournament tomorrow, have 4 games to work and the heat index will pass 100F, so both the kids and I will be sweatin’. Didn’t water the front as the sprinkler I had for it broke and I never replaced it and it was just too much bother to get the one from the back yard…so tomorrow I’ll get a new one and try again.

I don’t drink coffee (copious amounts of Pepsi provide me my caffeine), but hope all the drinkers can get their cups filled.

FCM, thanks for the reminder, I have a dental appointment next Wednesday (just a regular cleaning).

Wheelie, Charlotte is probably the big city I’d want to live in if I had too do it, enjoy the vacation.

{{nellie}}. Be well.

Sunny, I missed that, sorry you have a water leak, mine got repaired but I still don’t know if it fixed things or not. Next couple of water bills will tell the tale.

OK, onward into the evening. Got to pack my refereein’ bag tonight so I’m ready to go early with all the stuff I need for the day (including lots of water). Take care all.

Mrs. L.A. and I shared a large wild-caught salmon fillet (unfortunately, skinless) that I baked with kosher salt, three rosemary sprigs I cut off of the plant outside, and lemon slices. I steamed large chunks of yellow squash, and reheated the leftover creamed spinach. Goo especially liked my fish. (The Spousal Unit did too, but she didn’t sit next to me begging. She had her own fish.)

I walked 2.55 miles today. Walking on gravel slows me down, so I tried to up my pace. 2.85 mph, which is lower than the 3 mph on asphalt. I’m tired.

It has cooled off quite a bit today. At one point it was under 90F. I’m still not playing in my garden. It does look like we will be feasting on a cherry tomato in a couple of days. When it’s ready, I will bring in it, wash it carefully, cut it in half and place both halves on a pretty saucer then present it to hubs with a salt shaker. After we each savor our small morsel, we will agree that this was the best one ever. Routines are important, LOL!

I’ve managed to get my caffeine addiction under control, mostly, but I do have a couple of emergency cans of espresso tucked in the back of the pantry. Remember the clear glass percolators? As a kid, I spent hours watching them perk.

Are you a fan of Kurt Vonnegut? He did a lot of Lovecraft tribute work. Have you ever watched The Thing? That was a new version of The Mountains Of Madness. Many folks think that Poe was the father of modern horror, I disagree. I feel that Lovecraft had a much larger influence and can see him and his Fear of the Unknown and Fear of the Outsider in a lot of modern fiction.

To me, the biggest part of his mythos was the fundamental indifference of the universe to humans.

Yes, a large part of my Master of Library Science degree did involve comparative literature, why do you ask?

As you surmised, hubs is feeling the exertion of yesterday. I don’t drive a big vehicle, I drive a little low econobox and the poor man spent way too much time crawling and rolling around on the ground. For the most part, the only times I get mad at him is when he’s doing something that I know will end up hurting him. The rest of the time, I just silently laugh. (I would have let him keep hand filling the waterbed all day, but I needed to pee.)

It’s so good that tech support is un-whackable cause otherwise they would be first against the wall!

I want you to trust me, OK? I’m pretty sure more folks will back me up. Use apple cider vinegar on your skin several times a day. There is something in it that really does stop itching, the reason most folks don’t advise it is because you will start smelling like a salad. Think about this…have you ever seen lettuce scratch? Try it, it can’t hurt and I really do think it will help some.

Y’all are making me crave coffee, which is weird, since I almost never drink the stuff.

The percolator didn’t work very well. The first couple of cups (one for me, and one for the Spousal Unit) were good, but after removing the stem and the filter it just sort of boiled away. Tomorrow we’ll use the Keurig. I’ll probably manually pour hot water through Mr. Coffee and just use it to keep it hot.

I’ve been having thunderstorms off and on all day. Making some Bojangles chicken for dinner

Only 4 days? That’s practically a miracle. Good job.

Well, if the tornadoes come, you may have to change it to “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. But stay safe, and good luck!

Sorry about the daughter issue, Cookie.

It seems as though tomorrow is going to be the Big Beer Brewing day. Hubs has spent most of the afternoon setting up everything needed to cook beer from scratch instead of using concentrates. Insert sneer about lazy brewers and how fresh is always better than concentrates.

While I usually support his hobbies, I think I am not very happy about this development. His fancy pants programmable cooking pot is so tall that he needs it on the middle step to MY back porch so he can stand on the deck as well as on the top step in case he needs the extra room to be able to pull the heavy wort bag out.

Hobbies expand to take all available room and I do NOT want to give my beautiful porch up for his four beer a night habit. I can get the spare room ready whenever someone wants to come and help him drink up his “inferior” stock. After eyeballing his cellar I’m estimating over 120 bottles and 15 gallons in various stages.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

[Blues Brothers]We’re on a mission from God[/Blues Brothers]

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 78 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 98 and mostly N.O.S. with a heat advisory and promised heat index of up to 113 Amurrkin. 'Twill be another day of indoor sloth and general uselessness for sure! Sup shall be majick intartoobz pizza and sallit.

Beerfest at JtC’s place!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Firday Y’all!
