Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot- An Heatwave MMP

To be fair, tho, tech support folks get more than their share of idiots who think the monitor is the computer, or don’t know the difference between a browser and an operating system, or think that “wireless” means you don’t have to plug it in… And some are required to stick to a script, just to eliminate wasting too much time with the idiots. No, I’m not tech support, nor do I play one on TV, but I know things.

I absolutely hated stuff like that - discussing what influenced what or the significance of symbolism or all that crap. I read for a story, preferably one written by a person who has mastered basic grammar rules. If you’re going to make me look beyond that, I’ll take my cheezy paperbacks and go. :stuck_out_tongue: I could blame my 12th grade English teacher, who asked "What was the saddest line in < story>, then got pissed when no one picked the line she thought was the saddest. OK, too early to rant. I’m done.

Neither of us drink coffee, but spousal unit came equipped with an ancient Mr. Coffee after his divorce. We used it for years to make tea - bags in the carafe, and let Mr C heat the water. Then the heating unit died. Now I use the carafe to dump water into my counter top ice maker, or to water my houseplants.

Near as I can tell, we barely got a spit of rain last night, despite all the dire warnings. It pretty much stayed north and west of us. Dammit. Oh well.

We both have Dr appts this morning followed by an afternoon of chasing wires from the circuit breaker panel to places unknown. Yesterday, FCD found several wires in the middle of bundles that had just been cut and left. So we need to get all of those yanked out. We also need to find a 15 amp DC circuit breaker to replace the one that literally started melting down. I swear, the previous owner of this boat narrowly missed setting the vessel on fire! :open_mouth: Knowing what we know now, I’m not so sure we’d have bought it in the first place, but all we can do now is muddle thru the repairs.

I did get FCD to agree to call me periodically when he’s working aboard alone. I knew he was messing with electrical stuff yesterday, and it got to late afternoon and I heard nothing, so I was just a tad worried. Maybe I overreact, but considering what he was doing and where he was doing it, I don’t think so.

And so it goes. Happy Firday!!

Thanks for the best laugh I’ve had in days. That was perfectly played, good sir.

I love the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”

But thankfully the tornado warning ended up being a nothing burger. I heard like one lightning strike for this supposedly massive incoming storm!

OFFICIAL Somewhere over the Rainbow - Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole - YouTube I like this version a lot.

Morning all. Had trouble sleeping, thinking about the soccer tournament, but still got about 7 hours so that will have to do. Referee at 9:00a, 10:15a, 2:00p and 4:00p so hoping that nice gap in the middle will let me refresh. It’s already 80F at 7am, so it’s going to be another hot one.

Happy wiring, FCM

JtC, think you need to negotiate with husband-unit on using the porch and maybe find another alternative for him? And not a Vonnegut fan, sorry, mostly ‘hard’ SF and history in my collection.

OK, need to break fast and gather the refereeing tools. All y’all take care.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 28c/82f here with a predicted high of 29c/85f - waaaay too hot for me. Weather app says “Sometimes, I have to admit that it’s just fucking nice outside”, and it is nice but still too hot for my delicate skin. Shall not be venturing out there until it quits being hotter than hell.

Busy, busy, busy today…so I shall disappear off to get some lunch before the afternoon onslaught!

I’m happy that normal summer temps have finally arrived. May was a weird month. We had to alternate between heat and AC. We got a lot of rain in May instead of April.

We’re in the mid 90’s this week and that’s normal for mid June in Arkansas.

I was at the grocery at 6:30 this morning. I like to shop before it heats up. I’ll eat at my desk at work and avoid the mid day heat.

My scheduled SS deposit is the 4th Thursday of the month. Lately, the money has been showing up on the Monday before. Except today - it’s the Friday before! Weird…

I’m not complaining, really, but what happens if I get used to it arriving so soon, then all of a sudden, they go back to the original schedule? How will that affect my budgeting? Just weird.

Party @ the Cane’s!

Moooooooom, I’m surprised that the carafe has lasted that long. I usually don’t have to replace a coffee maker until I break one.

doggio, my favorite quote from that movie.

Took Nelson to the dog park when I got up this morning while the temp was still 79F. He had a good romp with a couple of other dogs whose humans were like minded.

Caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels / sheets ready for the dryer and a load of clothes on deck. I’ll do the usual Friday chores, then shop for groceries.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

We like it too. I have one of his CDs with the song on it. (The one where he’s floating in a pool.) I wish I could speak Hawai’ian so that I could understand what he was singing about in other songs.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 55 degrees and cloudy with rain moving in within the next hour. It’s pretty much supposed to rain all day. Wish I could share some of it with you folks who need some.

I was super busy yesterday and the training session went well. I also share the slide deck with the state leadership team so they had a one-stop shopping view of the process.

I don’t really have plans for today; I think I’ll just take the day as it comes.

Yays, hugs, and boos as needed. I hope you all have a great day!

JtC I did not know you are a fellow liberrian! Got my MLS in 81 and was a medical librarian for over 40 years. Retired last month (have I mentioned that? LOL) from a 21 year gig as a horsepital liberrian, a role I vowed I would never take.

Today is a sneezy allergy shot reaction day so after the chiro and a light gym session I will spend the day at home. Sadly no day drinking but there will be nappage.

So, he’s a beginner. Good for him! :stuck_out_tongue:

Took overlyboy out last night for more driving - with his dad. After having had some coffee. Coffee was a bad idea. A very bad idea. But, overlyboy did a pretty decent job.

On another note, I’ve developed another pet peeve: how much people are expected to mold their kid to fit the college rather than find the college that fits their kid. Since our school district doesn’t have a college counselor, we decided to talk to a private counselor and figured we’d start before Junior year so we didn’t get ourselves into a crunch starting later.

Holy crap. This lady was telling me I should make sure my son partners with local universities to get published in academic journals this summer and that during the school year in addition to cross country and his honors courses he needs to be doing volunteer work and additional engineering practicums and then take a couple of college courses next summer. The whole conversation just about gave me hives. I wanted to ask when he’s supposed to have a social life and/or sleep.

I once read this article in the The Atlantic about how “optimizing childhood” is kind of destroying it and creating a generation of burnt out, exhausted 20-somethings. I can see why.

Anyway, that’s my day so far. Off to work.

Happy Friday!

It was a muggy 75 degrees at the park this morning. It’s supposed to get up to 90 today, and then cool back down for a few days.
All the dogs were just lying around, not much energy in any of them.
Barky and Humpy are back. Barky was not so barky, probably too hot to bark. Humpy was plenty Humpy. I wish her mom wouldn’t laugh about it. One day she will do it to the wrong dog and nobody will be laughing.

Lawn guy came yesterday and tamed the jungle.
I had to talk to him about fixing my fence in a few places because I’m getting another dog. Temporarily… I hope.
Echo slipped through this morning into the neighbor’s yard, so it needs to be done.
Since one family owned both sides of the duplex for years, we have some shared areas. The neighbor’s patio ends at my deck, but about three feet of the patio is mine. There’s a spot in the railing between them that Echo can fit through that needs to be fixed. If there is a chair near the railing, she can jump in the chair and jump the railing. There are two other places in the fence where she can squeeze through if she wants.

I told Niece1 that I could take in Cerberlicious if needed. I meant for after my mother passes, as Niece2 will have to move and the house will need to be fixed up to sell. They want me to take him NOW! He is getting out of control again, has nipped a few guests, and they have enough to do with caring for my mother without dealing with him.
Hospice will be coming in once a week, Cerby doesn’t like strangers, and he is very protective of my mother. He’s giving Niece2 a hard time about going in his crate. If she puts him outside, he will jump the fence. He got upset yesterday when Niece1 was putting compression socks on my mother. He wouldn’t bite her, but he was whining and crying and trying to get her away from my mother.

I think he will be okay here. He is a nervous, high-strung dog, but my house is a lot quieter and less chaotic. I don’t have kids and their friends running in and out, and he will burn up energy playing with my dogs. I’ll try taking him to the park, it will be good for him to get out and about and socialize. I think a lot of his behavior issues are because he has too much pent-up energy.
He is always good when my dogs are there, and he sleeps most of the next say. I always say, a tired dog is a good dog.
He is the wrong breed of dog for them, although if he had stayed mini sized it might have been okay.

My son is not happy about it, but I said you are doing this for your grandmother, so deal with it. He doesn’t know it yet but I am going to try to drag him to the park with me to make him get out and be social. I’m not supposed to take three dogs there, so that can be my excuse. If he doesn’t go, one of my friends will say that Cerby is his if the park people snoop around.

I have to figure out how to feed them. My dogs are free fed and don’t fight over food. He is not free fed and will fight over food. Niece2 needs to check his vaccination records and make sure he has Bordetella so he can go to daycare. I want them to take him if he needs it so I’m not taking him to the vet right away. I think I may have to puppy proof the house. My dogs leave things alone, I don’t know if he is that good yet.

As far as my mother, nothing more to do. She can’t have stronger chemo, and radiation isn’t an option. The doctor told her six months, I think that is a generous estimate. My sister and Niece1 are taking her to the ocean next week.
I hope she can handle the ride, close to 3 hours.
We found out you can rent wheelchairs for the beach, but they come with a person to push them. Mom said she wanted to sit by the water, but now thinks not as she is very sun sensitive.

I ordered groceries today to pick up later and so much stuff on my list isn’t available. I’m a bit annoyed that they didn’t make substitutions, but maybe there was nothing to substitute.
I’ll figure something out.
I have to get gas too, so there will be much cussing.

Mortgage companies keep calling me, and I tell them I don’t owe enough on my house to refinance. They say oh no, we have new programs and we can go with lower balances. Then they want me to take cash out, and my payments will go up 50%+. Why would I want higher payments?

Cookie, your daughter may never learn. Niece2 is a lot like that.

Cute pup Sunny

I am so far behind on stuff today.
But then, that is every day.

Tell me, does he make IPAs? No reason. Just asking…

It does make me wonder how it passed inspection. I am very impressed with team FC’s handiness. It’s a good quality.

I’m glad the tornadoes missed you. I like IZ’s version quite a lot. We’ve got a few of his albums.

For some reason, banks have started releasing auto-deposits 2 days earlier. The Wednesday SS deposit is now available on Monday, for example. This Monday is Juneteenth, which I guess is a federal holiday now, so the deposit is today. I just checked and mine is there too.

Without telling too many tales on my childhood, this is exactly right. I did a year’s worth of college before I even got there. Don’t get me started on my extra-curriculars. I started university while I was 17. I was lost when I got there. My entire focus since I was 11 was getting to a top school and the school I went to was never the school I should have gone to.

sari what kind of dog is Cerber?

Today we get new pup. He is so SMALL. He is smaller than our cats. Beamer has performed a miracle and cleaned his room, so new pup will have a clean, safe space to stay in.

Take care everyone and Happy Friday!

See, this is my concern, too. I really just need my kid to clarify what he’s interested, have a reasonable list of colleges and get a timeline & task list for applying.

I’m having trouble putting this into words and I’m probably doing the whole thing bass ackwards, but I don’t want to make him into this image of the perfect sparkly candidate because that’s the only way the college will look at him.

On a completely different note, I hope you enjoy your new pup!

Make mine mead and it’s a deal! (Boo doesn’t do beer)

The federal government has started observing Juneteenth this year~maybe that influenced the timing of your SS?

Oops! I later see @Sunny_Daze ninjaed me. I snoozed, I losed.

Survived heaving, and stopped at the likker sto for gin and rye. Naptime, then laundry.

My dad worked at the JC Penny’s at the mall where they had the car chase
“I bet they’ve got SCMODS.”

$25 is a fair price for peace of mind. The thingie on my scalp is a sebaceous keratosis and nothing to worry about. So whew!

We’re about to quit boat work for today and start again early tomorrow morning. It’s been interesting, bordering on terrifying. But we’ll make it safe. Meanwhile, no one can steal the boat because of the state of disassembly.

As to why the inspector didn’t find these issues, they weren’t at all obvious. Only after we started tearing things apart did they come to light. At least we’ll really know our electrical system.
