Fin De HalloHanuThanksChristKwazaa - A Post Holiday MMP

Today is the start of Kwanzaa, the end of Hanukkah, St. Stephen’s Day, and Boxing Day(where Canadians punch each other, and say “Sorry.”). Then holidays get scarce. I’m currently martyring my liver in honor of St. Stephen’s Day. Anybody working today?
Talk amongst yourselves.

Well, there’s still New Years Eve, if you like that sort of thing.

Speaking as an unemployed, and unemployable, drain on society, let me just say:
First.

We’re off to bed now.

Night!

Holidays still remaining:
December 26th: St Stephen’s Day aka Boxing Day (today)
January 1st: New Year’s Day (most people)
January 2nd: Berchtoldstag (Wikipedia)
January 6th: Epiphany (not here, but Italy, Spain, others)

Not working again until January 5th, but that’s because my company’s closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day. It’s leftover from when we had more manufacturing, but we’ll keep it as the schools are closed as well, so people get their family vacations. I’m not complaining.

Going to clean out the cupboard above the fridge, to see if there are any canning lids up there. If there are, I’m making orange marmalade. If not? More lazing about.

Most places are closed today, same as yesterday. We actually have some sun, with rain to follow this afternoon. Hopefully we’ll get some snow in the mountains - didn’t get much last year.

Happy Moanday!

Nothing like being awakened with a squalling Amber Alert alarm at 4:30 in the am… And it wasn’t even local - no clue why I got a Baltimore alarm when we’re 2 hours south of the city. Anyway…

I eventually got up and showered and dressed, ready to take stuff to FCD (he didn’t have his meds last night, or a change of clothes) but he doesn’t want me to come till I bring his mom back. So that all depends on when she wakes up. Then, who knows…

My plans for today were to put away the tree, then organize my spice cabinet, inventory the pantry/fridge/freezers, and make up a shopping list. But now, I’m not sure what I’ll do. Except the critter fountain - I should have cleaned that 2 days ago. Stoopit, because it only takes about 15 minutes, but I kept putting it off.

Maybe I’ll be more coherent after I’m fully caffeinated.

Happy Moanday!!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I have no actual plans. But it’s 19 degrees right now, so sloth sounds in order.

I assume lots of snuggles with Alex are somewhere on your agenda.

DH is off today, too, so we may decide to go for a long drive (something we tend to enjoy).

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 20 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 46 and N.O.S. for the day. Like doggio today will be a day of high sloth as we were waaaaaay to busy for us over the past three days. The main chore shall be emptyin’ the dishwasher. Outside of that, it shall be sloth, nappage, day drinkin’, and general overall uselessness. We have some leftovers from yestiddy’s feast which shall be heated up for sup. There was a lot of foodstuffs for the feast so we sent folks home with leftovers as well. A win-win for everybody!

MOOOOOOM I hope there are some serious conversations today. Maybe MIL will finally admit FIL needs help she cannot provide. I hope it does not get nasty, but sometimes one must do what one has to do. I also hope FCD and you can get some downtime today.

Is today a federal holiday in the U.S.of A.? I have no idea about these things anymore. I wonder if we’ll get mail. Not that I am concerned or anxious for stuff to arrive in the mail.

Nettie go and enjoy the drive. We haven’t done that in a while and it’s a thing we like, as well.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all! Happy Boxin’ Day! Happy Kwanzaa! Happy St. Stephen’s Day! A raucous whatever else might be celebrated!

No mail today, I checked. Since actual Christmas was on Sunday, at least the government types get today as their holiday. So do some private sector, such as DH (he’ll have next Monday off, too, and no mail next Monday either).

The sun came up, and the temp went down 2 degrees?

Indeed(We watched handegg together yesterday).

Happy Moonday!

It’s cold outside, 18 feels like 11.
We went to the park and it wasn’t too horrible. I would have stayed longer but the laser ran out of power and Cerby started barking.
We had a good group, seven people and eight dogs, and one person brought cookies.

I have stuff to do today.
No surprise since I’ve been lazy for the last two days.
I don’t want to do anything, this laziness is getting to be a bit much.

I didn’t get any of the brats Christmas gifts, they get stuff all the time.
There are always 9-10 different kinds of treats around here, and more toys than they need.
They go to the park almost every day, and sleep in the bed, lots of food and water, and people food, and cheese twice a day with their pills.
I think they are plenty spoiled already.
Well, Adam has only one kind of treat, but that’s because he’s finicky. He doesn’t like soft treats.

I got the same Amber alert, scared me right out of a deep sleep.

Some people have 12 more shopping days to Christmas…

A bit chilly in philly and lager has a vet appointment with a specialist. After that we will settle in for a winter’s nap.

MIL is back at the apt, FCD is about to get some sleep. I just cleaned the critter fountain and I’m headed to Food Lion for some 'shrooms so I can make sketty sauce.

Then, who knows…

FCD showed me how to turn off Amber Alerts, so that should be the last one. I hope.

Mornin’, all. Hope e’rrybody’s x-mass/sunday went well. I’m getting ready for the long drive home tomorrow.

Stay safe, and I’ll type at you later.

I should recap the past week, the weather, Christmas, and so forth; but I came across this video.

I lived in Lancaster when I was in high school and into my 20s. I haven’t been there since I moved north (we drove through last month), and it’s gotten a reputation for meth and crime since then. Anyway, we may have to make that our next holiday destination. Maybe get a haircut.

I had my coffee, a fruit plate(banana, apple, orange, 2 kiwis), and some Eggo waffles. Which are now hexagons. Did Kellogg’s get bought by 100,000 bees in a Brooks Brothers suit or something?

I have about 10 minutes before I need to finish getting ready and then head to Baltimore, so while I’m finishing my coffee protein shake I figured I’d just pop in and say good morning!

As nettie confirmed, today is indeed a federal holiday in the U.S. and next Monday will also be one. No mail or gov’t services today – or work, for us fed contractors (even if I weren’t taking the whole week off) – but restaurants and shops and things are open. Which is a good thing, because if my dad and bro and I couldn’t go out for lunch the three of us would starve. There are two federal holidays in January, for New Year’s Day (observed on 1/2) and MLK Jr. Day (1/16), which makes for a nice way to ease into a new year.

Right now Google Maps is showing no issues on either I-495 or I-95… :crossed_fingers:

Seconded, FCM!

OMG. When I lived in LA I dated a guy from Lancaster. I can’t stop giggling! Too too funny.

Let’s have our next doper gathering in Lancaster!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 57 degrees and raining. That’s the high for today; temperatures will start dropping and descend to about 50 degrees by this afternoon: nothing, but rain, rain, rain all day.

The grandkids were spoiled yesterday. The day was long and loud, especially since Adam wasn’t having his best day. We all did our best to redirect him, but he wasn’t having any of it. Most of his tantrums derived from being told “no.” It’s so hard being two…

My son-in-law arrived, just not feeling great, and my daughter looked tired. So, Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle B were trying to keep the littles busy and entertain Oma. All that being said, it was nice having them home, and the prime rib roast and the rest of the meal turned out to be most excellent. The kids and grandkids would have stayed later, but Adam was wearing his parents out with his non-stop wailing and crying. They left a little after 5:30. He’s not usually this way, but I think everyone forgets the holidays just become a bit much for littles too. He’s also at the age where he is pushing boundaries with his explorations and has to be told no a lot. He’s incredibly stubborn (hm, I wonder where he gets that from). It’ll improve; it’s just a phase.

Zoe was trying to be helpful and was such a good girl yesterday. She loved her princess outfits and wanted to wear them right away and play with her new doll. She also enjoyed playing with Adam’s hotwheels track and cars. She had lots of fun with Grandpa and Uncle B. She had fun with Grandma when she wasn’t busy cooking or prepping food.

My son and mother stayed a little longer than the rest of the family, but they eventually took off since my mother had to be dropped off at her home first. Quiet reigned the house by about 7:00 pm. It was nice, but I was exhausted.

It’s a federal holiday (I’m a civil slave) and has been pointed out above, we’ll have next Monday off too. This work week will be extra short for since Friday is my RDO, but I’ll have a lot to cram into those three days, especially since I missed last week, despite having to work some of that time to take care of stuff.

FCM, thirding the serious conversation bit.

Other than some laundry, I don’t have any plans. I need to make an appointment for Polar because we noted his skin infection is back. Sigh…

As an accompaniment to my coffee, I’m eating some Elisen lebkucken. Not early enough of it got eaten yesterday.

I hope you all have a pleasant day and that the train finally made it to the kids’ house, nellie.

I have a non alcoholic hangover. I just finished breakfast at 9:45. Christmas Eve was celebrated at my friend’s. Her husband cooked prime rib (sadly he cooked it well done). Yesterday was at my sis and BILs. BIL and I got into a spirited political debate. Oddly enough I remained calm and he got kinda shouty. My sister stood back ready to break up the fight. But BIL and I love each other and everything turned out fine.

Today I should replenish the larder and see my horse. But I can do that tomorrow. My niece lives in L.A. (lower Alabama) and has a friend with a motorcycle. I have suede chaps that no longer fit somI am sending them to her. I believe the term she used was bad ass. Her or me? Or both?

OK. So you all know that I had oral surgery a week and a half ago. My lip and chin are still numb, but I think… maybe… I have some feeling coming back. My jaw still hurts a bit, and I’ve been wearing a guard at night to protect my teeth from clenching.

We had some snow Tuesday morning, so I worked from home. The Jeep wouldn’t start, so I had to get a boost and then get a new battery. Wednesday and Thursday we got about a foot and a half of snow, with temperatures in the low-teens (and I think 10º for a bit). They don’t plow our street, so the Jeep was the only way to get out. Friday we had an ice storm that made driving rather dicey. 4WD is useless on ice, so I was keeping my speed down to 20 mph or so when I had to get out (e.g., when I went to get some Thai food). Wifey, RN cancelled her patient visits.

I’d planned to get Christmas cards, and to surreptitiously get a present for The Spousal Unit to unwrap on Christmas morning. (I bought her a greenhouse for her main gift.) I thought she’d like a nice Patagonia long-sleeve shirt, because she loves the one I got her another year. But every time I wanted to ‘run errands’ she asked to go with my. [Where’s the :smackhead: smiley?) Between my mouth, the weather, the roads, and the inability to sneak out, I couldn’t get cards or a present. Finally on Saturday I was able to get out alone. I got The Missus a card – the kind that holds a gift card – and a $100 gift card for REI. She liked the card and the card. She got me a warm, grey, flannel shirt, and a six-pack of Dickie’s-brand socks.

Yesterday was a cooking day. I’d bought a 7.24 pound rib roast from Costco, so we had prime rib, baked potatoes, creamed spinach with feta, horseradish sauce, and a bottle of Cooper & Thief Red Blend for Christmas dinner. While the roast was cooking, I made escargots in mushroom caps for an appetiser.

As I woke up this morning, I thought about all of the snow-shovelling I have to do. Since I can’t go for a walk, it would be good exercise – especially since the snow became heavier with the freezing rain. I opened the bling on the front door this morning, and waddaya know? The snow on the walk was melted! It was in the teens last week, and it’s 54º this morning. I guess I’ll be able to walk after all – if the wind doesn’t blow me away.

Down to Burien tomorrow.
