Finally, we learn the name of Evil- Lori Drew.

They don’t.

Please pay attention to anyone and everyone who talks about suicide – even if you are certain they are doing it just to get attention. Play it safe. Give them the attention anyway. For heaven’s sake, don’t ignore them. They still need help.

This is also a good example of the fragility of the mind of a girl at thirteen. In another thread some of us talked about why in the United States girls are still legally off limits sexually when they are a year older than Megan.

I think I was fairly naive about meanness until I got a computer.

Christ-you’re right. Somehow I overlooked that bit. Jesus. :frowning:

I am in no way diminishing the horror of Megan’s death and her parent’s grief, but for me–the real horror is Sarah, Lori’s daughter–having to live with this woman (although for all I know she is now a mini-Lori).

Also, while I think that Lori’s actions may well have been the tipping point for Megan, who is to say just what the tipping point is for anyone suicidal? I am not defending what Lori did–what she did is unconscionable. But there is a strong chance that Megan would have committed suicide at some point. Maybe not. I really don’t know.

We had a rash of suicides here a few years back–all members of the water polo team. All of these kids seemed bright, eager, well rounded–like teens in a Pepsi ad. But most of them had witnessed the drowning of a friend of their’s the year before. They all got counseling of some kind or another. But by the end of 2 years past the drowning, 3 other boys were all dead by their own hands.

Not sure what I’m saying here, just that teens (or anyone) who commits suicide is usually not in a rational state of mind, so things can get distorted. Lori is busy telling all and sundry that what she did as “Josh” was no big deal, but it was–even if no death had resulted.

I just think that the kid who has to grow up learning and living the whole “I did it for you” cannot have a normal adolescence or healthy relations with her family or peers. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me to hear that Sarah has also committed suicide sometime in the future.

Maybe we should bring back the tar and the feathers?

Creating a blog and callit it “Megan had it coming”?

Isn’t that just handing the other family the civil case?

This is why I think it’s just some troll, not Lori Drew. It’s too neatly provocative. The name of the blog, the infuriatingly clueless defense of her actions, the attacks on Megan via “Kristen”, the “bring it on” at the end – none of it rings true to me.

From what I understand, the daughter has already been taken out of school and is currently living elsewhere.

Thing is, if it were really a hoax, it would have been yanked down by now. One call from the Drew’s attorney the blogspot people and it would be gone. Yet…nothing.

Also, think of the massive lawsuit that the Drews could probably legitimately win against the hoaxer for irreparable libel and defamation. What attorney wouldn’t be rabidly eager to convince the Drews to file suit. Yet…nothing.

Well for some reason, Megan’s parents are not suing the Drews.

This may change their minds.

I’ve read the blog and the stuff said does not sound like a 47 year old woman should sound, so it could be Lori Drew because she does not behave like a 47 year old woman should behave.

Things like, “This is from a guy in college and he is real smart” sound more like a teen, but Lori seems to be so closely identified with her teen daughter that maybe…

Or better yet, the sanguinary ambuscade.

Gotta remember that she was able to mimic the online style of a 16 year old boy…with deadly accuracy.

Maybe it’s just her natural ‘voice’.

Interesting. It’s been nearly 24 hours since the timestamps on that blog show the owner of the blog (“Megan Had It Coming”) posting. This is the last we’ve heard from “Lori” (she is responding to the post from a detractor. Detractor’s post is in italics):

[COLOR=Blue]Megan Had It Coming said…

If you acted like an adult (which you did not), then you would have dealt with that situation -WHEN THE TIME CAME-…not make automatic assumptions and wage an internet jihad against a freaking thirteen year old girl. If it had come down that, you could have always had her switch schools or something.

Stop over reacting. This wasn’t a jihad. This was a simple case of teaching a girl a lesson. It’s not my fault that she overreacted and killed herself. And how many schools do think I can choose from in this very rural town? Hmm?

It’s amazing how I seem to be the only parent on this board who knows how to have a straight thought.

The news reports were that another employee of the Drew’s business was involved in faking the MySpace profile postings. Who this person is hasn’t really been further mentioned (to my knowledge), but it was implied to have been someone younger. Dunno if male or female.

You mean Ashley Grills?

Huh. I don’t even remember the name being mentioned in any of the many times the “no charges being filed” story was covered this week in local news. May be I’ve started tuning it out because of the sheer amount of contentless news coverage 'round here on this.

Hell hath no fury like an angry Net. And I hope to witness that fury towards Drew for a long time to come.

The Interwebs will forget about Lori Drew the next time some politician says something stupid or some screaming kid makes the rounds on YouTube.

I’m unconvinced. You could just as easily argue that if it were real, it would have been yanked down by Drew’s attorney by now due to the very real damage it could do in a civil case. Yet…nothing.

I smell a troll.

That blog may be a troll. I certainly can’t rule it out. But I find it interesting that the blog seems to have started after the original story linked in the other thread on this topic broke. IIRC that first story indicated that prosecution was highly unlikely, and that the Meier’s were not planning any civil suit.

Given the behavior that this woman has exhibited in the past, I suspect she’s running on some version of, “Nyahh, nyahhh, can’t touch me. So why should I keep quiet and take this crap on the net without striking back?” ETA: I do think she’s stupid enough to fail to notice the difference between an announcement from the DA’s office that they cannot prosecute, and the statement that the Meiers won’t sue.

Which is one reason I hope that the Meiers change their minds about a civil suit. Far from the only one, but it’s one reason.

Well, Drew’s lawyer appeared on a talk show this AM, and gave an “official Drew version” of the story which was far, far different from what appeared in that blog, purportedly by Ms. Drew.

I too smell a troll.
