First annual SDMB Craft Exchange

I got nothing. Bummer.

[organizer]Everyone, we’re closing in on the end of the year – if you haven’t sent anything to your person yet, this is a gentle reminder. I will get around to less gentle reminders soon. If you have received something but haven’t posted, please do, so I don’t harass anyone who doesn’t need to be harassed.[/organizer]

[participant]I’m closing in on the toe of CongoDwarf’s second sock, so should mail before the end of the year, whether or not she gets them before the end of th year.[/participant]

I will try to get this in the mail before the end of the year. You haven’t been forgotten!

Yay!

Same to Brynda… you haven’t been forgotten, I just knit slower than I thought I did.
Very nearly done and the plan is to have it in the mail by the end of the week.

TruCelt – I’m so glad that you like them. I was worried that they had gotten lost or squished in the mail. Yours is a goose egg and the Celtling’s are duck eggs. Duck eggs seem to take the dye better than chicken eggs. I only had one egg stand in the house (sorry!) – they are a little hard to find in December. But I sometimes display the eggs using a napkin ring or a short candle stick.

Anyway, do you mind if I post a few pics (after I get them off my camera)?

Please!

Oh wait, you didn’t ask me. Nevermind.

Oh absolutely do! I tried, but my home computer died and the work one is cut off from flickster and photobucket.

Pysanky pics! Goose egg for TruCelt. All three eggs for TruCelt and Celtling.

Red helping me pack them up.

Those are absolutely gorgeous!

Those eggs are sublime.

They are truly absolutely amazing!

Thanks for all the sweet comments about the eggs. You guys are gonna make me blush!

Ok Twix, I finally got this thing in the mail. It’s light so I paid a couple of bucks to get it to you by Saturday, just in time for Consumerism Day.

Now the bad news. I’m really disappointed in how this came out. I though all the problems would be at the beginning with cutting and gluing. Turns out the finishing was the worst part. The wood was overly dry, so it crack and chipped, and required repairs with putty, which I hate doing. Then the stain wouldn’t take evenly. I had to get it much darker than intended to keep it from looking hideous. Then the grain raised in spots, and sanding marks became apparent.

Now hopefully you won’t notice every little flaw, and you’ll just see a box. But I’d suggest keeping it somewhere with poor lighting conditions. It seems lame to me compared to all the gorgeous pictures of other’s crafts. My contingency plan for such an occurence was to further decorate it with brass tacks and strips of leather, but that’s kind of an individual taste thing. You could use it as a base for your DIY project though.

I mostly feel bad that you’re bumming about it! I’m sure it will be really nice , and in any case nicer than anything I could make. (And, oh, BTW, there’s a wee bit of funkiness in the socks I’m making CongoDwarf that I’m sure is way worse than anything you did.)

I’m sure. It’s always this way when you make something yourself. That flaw imperceptible to the naked eye looks ten feet wide from ten feet away. But I do wish it had come out better. But everybody can use a box, even if you just keep it in the closet. Or worst case, just pretend your nephew made it in the Cub Scouts.

I made contact with amarinth and have a plan in mind. I’m glad I’ll be able to squeak in under the wire!

zyada’s gift went in the mail today!

My first project was a bit of a wash, as a it turned out to be too difficult for me. I was feeling horrible guilty but got back on the horse and am glad I did.

I definitely don’t want to call TriPolar a lying liar, so I’ll just show pix of the box he sent and leave it at that.

Now I just have to figure out what is special enough to deserve to be stored in this box.

Wow! That box is something else! There are some very talented crafters here, I gotta say.
