Food amnesty hypothetical

(not sure if this belongs in CS [food] or IMHO [opinion poll], mods please move it if I guessed wrong)

A genie with nothing better to do gives you the ability to eat one food without any negative health affects. It won’t give you any good stuff it doesn’t naturally have, but you can eat as much and as often as you want, and no stray calorie or trans fat will bother you. What do you pick?

I’m torn between pasta and donuts, personally. I encounter pasta on a more regular basis, but give me a box of donuts and I could scarf down the whole thing if I let myself.

Ice cream. I’m not sure if burritos or fried chicken comes in second place.

Coffee. Coffee–Coffee–Coffee–Coffee–Coffee–Coffee and---------- Coffee.

I was just thinking about this the other day, as I was scarfing down raisins in a midnight fit of loneliness and boredom. I’m diabetic, overweight and have GERD issues so there’s a lot of foods I have to avoid or at least only enjoy sparingly. Raisins are one of those foods I should avoid or enjoy sparingly…and definitely not eat by the handful out of a huge tub.

So right now, it’s raisins. It might also be fresh orange juice, which has the double whammy of sugar and acid.

Cookies.

If I chose Ice-cream I’d probably go bankrupt in short order.

Probably beef. I’m going to be eating a lot of beef anyway, even though I know it’s generally bad for me, so my diet and expense doesn’t change, apart from eating a bit more of the cheaper items to bring me back up to the lost energy.

Alcohol.

Ice cream.

I can think of a few that are on the short list (pasta and burritos come to mind), but my first choice is pizza.

Bacon

The first 10 items on this list are going to be various nuts, numbers 11 to 40 are going to cheeses, and then we’ll get to preserved sausages. The lower reaches of the hundred are mostly curries and Mexican.

I’ll go macadamia then pistachio to start.

Greasy BBQ ribs marinated and dripping with BBQ sauce.

Potato chips, probably. They are so tasty, and so terrible in every other way.

Chocolate. If that is too broad, then dark chocolate.

If I can pick a food component, I’ll pick gluten…which will open up a whole lot of other foods for me. :slight_smile:

I already pretty much eat whatever I feel like, without worrying about the health consequences. And I’m assuming this isn’t including “getting tired of it” or “being bored by blandness” as “negative consequences”, so I have almost nothing…

Almost. The one exception is that I have a condition called hemochromatosis, that means that I have to keep my iron consumption low. Now, it’s not all that hard to find alternatives to beef, but nonetheless I do like it, so I’d choose beef.

I’m leaning toward pizza, but I’m not ready to give my final answer.
