Foods that are too, too Tempting

You always hurt the one you love.

Utz dark russett chips.

Mentions of almonds, peanuts and cashews, but no pistachios? Come on! That is the most addictive of nuts.

I hate to say it, but I agree with the angry, violent turtle in the commercials-- they’ve gotta be shelled. That way they slow you down to a reasonable rate of consumption. The pre-shelled path just leads to anarchy.

Then there are the last few at the bottom of the bag, that are completely closed up with no split part to get fingernail purchase to pop open the shell. You kept grabbing those and throwing them back in the bag while you still had plenty. Now is the reckoning, where you go looking for a hammer, or a rock if you’re outside.

Am I the only one who, once I crack the pistachio shell and eat the nut, there’s a hull on the inside of one of the shell halves I scrape out with my front teeth and eat? Waste not, want not.

I like Campbell’s Chili. Especially with saltines, shredded cheddar cheese, and sour cream.

I also eat this. I crack the closed ones with my teeth, to the dismay of almost everyone, and perhaps ultimately of myself.

I learned quickly buying shelled pistachios is a very bad mistake. I caught myself putting a half handful in my mouth at a time. They’re so small its easy to eat 20 at a time. A whole bag from Sams Club disappears within three days.

Eating from the shell forces me to eat one at a time. It slows me down and I feel satisfied after 15 or 20.

Pistachios are wonderful.

I buy peanuts in the shell for the same reason.

Strawberry pie. Oh my goodness. It’s hard to walk through the kitchen without eating a cold slice on a hot day.

We limit ourselves to making one pie during strawberry season. :strawberry: There’s way too much sugar. It’s healthier to eat plain strawberries.

The mix for the filling syrup is in the produce section. Usually in a rack next to the strawberries.

Mmmm, marzipan. I buy those logs of marzipan for baking and just eat them like an almondy popsicle.

Brie

choco covered cashews

If a flock of crisp bacon strips magically fluttered around my head and someone bet me $1-million to not eat at least one (if not all), I would emphatically lose that bet.

If the bacon strips were wrapped around jumbo shrimp, carnage would ensue trying to prevent me from getting at them.

Pringles, especially the ones with cheese or sour cream. I can go through an entire cannister in no time at all.

An unopened container of ice cream can sit in the freezer for weeks, months even.

But once that lid comes off, even children and old ladies with walkers will be in danger if they are in my way.

mmm

Rice crispies treats. I don’t make them anymore, I eat the whole pan. I occasionally buy a box of Kellogs brand, or if they are sold individually at a bakery or coffee shop.

Indulgent Trail Mix, packaged by Great Value, sold at your local Wal-Mart. A 26 oz bag supposedly contains 25 servings. It can disappear in a day at our house. Faster, if I share.

Doritos, Fritos, Bugles, and Cheezits. I permit myself to buy a bag/box maybe 3-4 times/year. When I do, the entire package is gone within 2-4 days.

Glazed or coffee-glazed macadamia nuts. Those cannot EVER be allowed into the house, not even as a rare treat, as I will eat an entire can and then feel sick.

My personal religion compels, nay demands, that if any desert in my presence contains the words “chocolate” and “raspberry” together, then I am required to eat it. Lest I be smited by G*d.

Yes, this has caused embarrassment at restaurants - Yes, I will be ordering 3 deserts from the menu, why do you ask?

The less said about buffets the better.

So, naturally, I do not bring that combination into my home.

Typical exchange between MrsFtG and me in the grocery store:

“Do you want some chocolate ice cream?”
“Yes.”
“Do you want me to get some.”
“No.”

Ditto with chocolate glazed donuts.

If we buy it I will eat it. So, no, don’t get it.

And it must be mandated that Dairy Queens have to be at least 5 miles from our house.

Yes. 'specially of the with grated pineapple & covered in dark chocolate variety.

Ice cream - almost any flavor, but especially chocolate or variations with chocolate.

Most anything sweet, especially if it has chocolate.

Especially chocolate.

  • M&Ms (especially the dark chocolate variety)
  • Homemade chocolate chip cookies (and the dough…and the chips)
  • Ice cream, but only certain types (Ben and Jerry’s Smores and Jeni’s Salty Caramel)

That’s my gf’s weakness. Her weight is right where it should be and she eats a very health conscious diet. I’m the opposite.

But every so often she’ll buy a little carton (pint?) of ice cream. A few days after she buys it I think a bit of ice cream might be a nice snack, but the carton will be gone.
