Foods that shouldn't taste good but do!

Sea urchin (uni). Slimy sea creature gonads. I don’t care for sushi at all, but this darn stuff is delicious.

I love sushi, and constantly try things I haven’t yet tasted. I eat a lot of sushi.

Sea urchin is the only thing I’d never order again.

Dates stuffed with goat cheese, wrapped with bacon, seared until bacon is done, and then drizzled with maple or agave syrup.

Damn, those things are tasty!

gag!! barf!!

I grew up in Chicago, eating famous Chicago Style Hot Dogs

Ketchup instead of mustard is considered a sin, PEANUT BUTTER - Blasphemy

not as bad as Vincent Vega’s Mayonnaise

I am quite willing to concede that I most likely have a twisted palate.

I also like sugar on green peas and peanut butter on potatoes.

I felt like I was getting a cold (I was), so I made up a hot drink of the traditional cold-fighting remedies - garlic, honey, and lemon. It was surprisingly palatable.

One of my all-time favorite desserts is sugar sprinkled over white rice. I also used to have white rice with butter and milk.

Why not go all the way and make rice pudding (which I love)?

Not too long ago I tried a recipe for cherry (or grape) tomatoes grilled in a skillet. The only things added to the tomatoes were basil leaves (which makes perfect sense) and… wait, table sugar?! No way.

Turns out grilled tomatoes and basil with sugar is FANTASTIC.

Sheer unmitigated laziness. But I do love me some rice pudding as well.

Does it have cinnamon and raisins? Yum!

I was recently convinced to go in on a pizza with pepperoni, pineapple, and jalapenos. That was a fine pie and not a combination I’d have happened upon myself.

Then consider me a sinner… and a blasphemer.

I was making some chicken salad one day when I noticed in the corner of our kitchen a large open big-box store sized bag of almonds.
So, after I finished making the normal chicken saladl recipe I use, I chopped up 2 cups of almonds as finely as I could with a food processor and stirred it all into the chicken salad.

It was good! It shouldn’t have worked, they shouldn’t go well together… but they did.

I think it would have tasted better if you didn’t chop them up so finely.

I put chopped pecans in mine. But the pieces are big enough you can still feel the crunchiness to them.

Thank you!

Crockpot meatballs cooked in grape-jelly-&-mustard sauce is a thing. Sounds weird, but the end product is pretty much akin to barbecue sauce. Chili sauce is usually added to taste to provide a little heat.

Get some sliced beef summer sausage {pre-packaged store bought works best}, a handful of fritos and two slices of the softest white bread you can find {fresh Wonder bread works best}.

Put your sandwich together and then smush it flat with your hand. An excellent quick meal !

.

Seconded! A pinch of paprika/chili powder with it is awesome as well.

Peanut butter, bacon, and ketchup on a toasted, margarined English muffin. I shuddered too the first time I heard it… Then I tried it.

Spinach is lettuce from hell, and I loathe goat cheese, mix them together and encase in pastry? Godly. Spanakopita is awesome.

As for the sandwich with chips, I’ve seen a lot of young Irish fellows do that: kaiser with margarine, bologna (or similar) and a bag of chips/etc.

Not a fan myself, but as they say ‘those who like it, like it a lot.’
