Woohoo! First week of college football and boy was it a doozy. A great deal of upsets this week with Oklahoma (7), Auburn (16), Texas A&M (17) and Pittsburg (23) all losing. The Charlie Weis era got off to a good start with a shelacking of Pitt and USC took its first step towards repeating. BSU looked terrible against Georgia although I probably should say their quarterback looked terrible. After about 10 seconds of listening to Trev Alberts my hatred for him began to boil again.
But lets get to the important stuff here, the Buckeyes came out and looked pretty darn good today. Pittman ran for 100 yards on 14 carries and Zwick moved the ball around well. I saw more talent and ability in Pittman as a freshman than I saw in Clarett. Clarett was clearly more advanced when he came to Columbus but Pittman has some kind of speed and agility. He is going to be super this year and hopefully for two more years. Holmes and Ginn are absolute studs at the reciever spots and there look to be some pretty solid 3-4 recievers to augment them. The offensive line looks to be solid and should be good enough to let the talent do their stuff.
You don’t hear too much talk about the defense at OSU becuase there really isn’t much to talk about. The defense since Tressel has come has been dominant and this year is no different.
Now the day started great and only got better after Michigan played. If you looked at the scores (OSU-34 Miami (OH)-14, Mich 33 NIU 13) you would think that Mich and OSU did about the same. Not quite, Michigan’s defense looked absolutely horrendous on the field. NIU moved the ball at will, especially on the ground, and if it weren’t for all the fumbles and INTs they might have won. NIU racked up over 400 total yards and Wolfe was unstoppable rushing for 148 yards on 17 carries. The Michigan offense looked dominant out there but you can’t win in the Big Ten without defense. I look foward to OSU winning another Big Ten title!
O-H-I-O Go Bucks Go!
