For people who like ridiculous heat in the MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy (partly moony?) with a predicted high of 96 with a humidity factor of OMG and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Also there is the ever present chance of afternoon rain/tstorms/apocalypse. We had a nice rain for almost two hours yestiddy afternoon. Today I shall head over to the church house around nine to help finish up mowage. Shouldn’t be more than a couple of hours as we did get most of it done yestiddy. Then, JDD and Partner are comin’ over for some quality cee-mint pond time and a continued bday celebration for me. I get burgers and a DQ ice cream cake. YAY!

OK, I read all but retained next to nuttin’ so, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how YOU doin’s all around as needed.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Waah. I want deviled eggs. As today is the Swiss National Day and it’s picnic weather, I really should have planned ahead and bought more eggs so I could devil some. I could have even bought hard-boiled eggs so I wouldn’t have to warm up the kitchen.

Looks like the rain which was forecast for today will come this evening or tomorrow. Which means I have to make sure the tomato plant gets enough water. Would like to see something turn red, but so far the tomatoes are just getting bigger and bigger.

Between the virus and the drought conditions, most of today’s celebrations have been canceled, so it’ll be a pretty quiet day. Probably still hear a lot of fireworks tonight, unless it finally starts raining.

Stay safe everybody.

We’ve had a good bit of rain over the last coupla days and nights and more predicted in the coming days. No idea when I’ll be able to mow again - I may need to rent a herd of goats!!

MissOwl - teh kitteh is a beauty!! The photos just ooooooze sweetness - YAY for new kitteh!!

Roxy’s wake-up routine is to carry her sleep toys out to me (this morning it was a penguin and Baby Hulk.) Then she asked for some juice which she promptly took back to her parents’ room. Mornin’, Mama!! In some ways, I’ll miss seeing her first thing in the morning, but it’ll be nice to be able to do my online reading without interruption. Just another month or so.

Speaking of phones, I’ve had to talk to daughter’s mortgage guy a few times (guess he’s my mortgage guy also) and he uses a speaker phone which occasionally cuts out, so I can’t always understand what he’s saying. It’s annoying as all getout, but at least I won’t be talking to him much longer. Yesterday I e-signed a bunch of documents and got and estimate for the closing costs. Near as I can tell, everything’s in the seller’s court now - repairing the incoming water pipe and getting all the estate crap straightened out so the sale can go thru.

One thing I found out, and I guess it makes sense - when 2 people apply for a loan, the interest rate is determined according to the lower credit rating. Daughter’s was higher than SIL’s - enough that it would have made a significance difference, so his name will only show up on the deed. The mortgage will be in daughter’s and my names only. But that meant they couldn’t include his income in the application, which is why I had to co-apply. Yeah, I know, nobody asked…

The only plan for today is furniture browsing. We won’t actually buy any for about 2 months, but we don’t know for sure what we want, so this will be a good start. We’ve been talking about getting a sofa and 2 or 3 recliners, plus we’ll need new end tables. The lamps are staying, tho - we like our living room lamps.

We’re also going to need some bedroom furniture for a guest room - chances are we’ll get that off Craigslist, but we may still look at new stuff, just for the heck of it. And we’ll get a new futon mattress for the old futon frame - that’ll be in Roxy’s room once her stuff goes to the new house. I think she’ll like having a big ol’ futon for herself!

Anyway, that’s today’s excitement.

Happy Saturday!

Happy Saturday!

It was a cool 68 this morning. Muggy out, but not hot.
Supposed to be cloudy all day with a high of 84.

Quiet morning at the park, hardly anybody showed up.
No new people, so no problems with Echo.

Very pretty kitty OW. I think two are better than one, they can keep each other company.

My back yard is turning into a jungle. The lawn guy seems to be pretty busy, so Sah-son can get out there and do something with it.

I hope you enjoy furniture shopping more than I do FCM
Too many choices and I get all bogged down.

Happy celebrating Swampy

Midget, I forgot your new name.
My two pups are shar pei. I posted a bd pic on Echo on FB if you want to see what she looks like.
I’m glad your head is clearer today.

Congrats on finishing Herald.

It may be sweet Nellie, but it is inappropriate. We’ll have to stop going to the park if she doesn’t get her act together, and as one person pointed out, she’ll probably get worse if she stays at home.
And you are welcome to the rain and cold. Although we need the rain, or the park does. The grass has all turned brown there. However, it doesn’t take much rain to turn my backyard into a jungle.
A cordless water pik sounds like a good idea.

Nothing special on the agenda for today. Unpacking boxes mostly.
Another mostly boring day.

Good morning, y’all. Walked at 6:45 this morning and it was a refreshing 73 degrees. Nice! Offset somewhat by 82% humdiditty.

Yesterday evening we had a rerun of deja vu all over again. EC (cat) brought a live bird into the house. I’m sitting on the sofa watching TV, minding my own business, and it’s funny how you know what the typical noises are in your house. Oh yeah, that’s the a/c, that’s the water heater coming on, that’s one of the cats jumping down from somewhere, that’s the other cat engaging in zoomies on the hall rug. Then-- something pings your sonar. That’s a different noise-- better investigate.

Sure enough-- I didn’t see a bird, but EC was crouched up against the bottom of a cupboard in the dining room. It has a little space under it. Dang. I shut the two doors into the dining room, scooped kitty up and closed her in the bedroom (how do people in open-plan houses isolate their animals when they need to?). I turned off all the lights with a command to Alexa (hehe-- I have three Echoes in my 1,500 sq ft house), then propped open the front door. If you get a bird trapped in the house, that’s a good strategy: make the house as dark as possible and open a door–they will fly toward the light. I got down on my hands and knees and shined a flashlight under the cupboard. I spotted the poor little darlin". I used a yardstick and coaxed it to where I could pick it up. I ran outside with it and put it up in a tree.

Meanwhile, Sweetie Dog, spotting her chance, had availed herself of the propped-open door and was smelling her way down the block (searching out cat poop snacks in the yards-- yum!). I called after her but she ignored me. She wasn’t wearing her collar. (Hey! I take off my bra in the house, too!) I finally caught up with her and led her home by the scruff of her neck.

Too much excitement for me! I’d already exceeded my Excitement Quotient that morning by making my first post-lockdown trip to Target. Woo-hoo! I confined EC in the house for the rest of the evening and she was NOT happy about it. I hope she doesn’t make a habit of this. I can’t take it.

Doing laundry now, which I do faithfully every Saturday morning. It consists of washing the items I’ve worn during the week preparatory to wearing exactly the same thing next week. Routine is comforting, innit?

I don’t believe it. I’ve been wrangling dishwashers since I was a little kid, and I recently “tested” a DW detergent claiming to teleport baked on crud to a different universe.

You gotta scrub off the gooey/stuck/baked-on crud. Period.

Unless you wanna pay gazillions for a commercial job that uses internal firehoses for water pressure.

Ouch elfkin! Keep in mind the saying If leaves be three, let it be when dealing with wild plants. If none of your blisters are open, bathe in colloidal oatmeal (Aveeno tends to be what you’ll find at Tar-jay or Wally World). Hope you’re not to itchy soon.

dicey, the last thing tomatoes do before being picked is turn red (or yellow, depending on the variety). May your wait be short.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, towels and sheets in the wash and the puppy crate cleaned. Nelson’s lovey, Rocky Raccoon is also in the wash, since he has developed an odor. I hope that a wash will take care of that because I’m pretty sure my dog will not entertain taking Rocky out to the dumpster.

Once KP is done, I’m getting a few things together before SIL stops in for tea. She lives an hour away, but has to go to the 'Boro (town next to mine) today, so she’s dropping by for tea and lemon bars. We’ve been so socially distanced for so long that we’re ready for some girl talk that doesn’t involve a phone or computer.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

My two brats came from animal rescue with the undignified and insulting names of “Spud” and “Dink.”

C’mon, really?

They were adult cats, about six years old.

Both had gorgeous green eyes. The bright green-eyed one was renamed “Peri” which is short for Peridot, and the soft green-eyed one I renamed “Jasper.”

They learned their new names in no time. It was almost like a RELIEF to them, for they now had respectable names!

Feeling better today.

Instead of burning down the world, maybe today I’ll just watch the world burn itself.

In any case, trying not to be too stressed today.

Howdy all. I felt ambitious this morning and since the Hazmat place in Huntsville was open this morning, I loaded up about a dozen paint cans that have been in my garage for nearly 17-20 years and a box of caulking (I have no idea from whence it came) and dropped it off. Went by the soccer fields on the way home, the club teams are playing, looked like the parents were all grouped together and few face masks in sight…I really thought soccer folks were smarter than that…

Cloudy but cooler (78F) and the chance for rain is way down (which means we’ll get a downpour shortly). Still have mowing the yard on the calendar for tomorrow, we’ll see.

Thel, it’s great that animals bring us such happiness and joy or we’d probably strangle the &^&##&^& beasts…

FCM, interesting stuff on the mortgage. Hope it all works as planned.

DieC, Happy National Day!!

elf, arrrrgggghhh…hope it clears up soon.

Nettie, nothing like a broken microwave to upset the man of the house . Glad it wasn’t anything too expensive. And I read a lot on lunch breaks too, so I know the obnoxious type you encountered. Shooting them is a bit over the line, at least for a first offense.

herald, good news on the cardiac front. Stay well.

OW, whatever name you pick will be good, I’m sure.

MG, I’m still trying to figure out the restaurant angle…I’ve never been to a restaurant that served Gatorade in my memory–maybe for his employees slaving away in a hot kitchen?

If I missed anyone, hugs, tears, laughter and hope for all y’all.

Lunch has been consumed so internettin’ and readin’ and Sudoku-ing will occupy my afternoon. Take care.

Grocery deliveries today, which is the highlight of our week in these times. Got most everything we ordered, although salmon cream cheese seems to be scarce of late. Spoiled Americans, we.

Drove up to Vancouver to take our DeLonghi espresso maker to the only authorized repair place in the Northwest, apparently. It’s not a fancy machine, but it makes good coffee. Lately, it has become incontinent, leaking water from every orifice. Joe the repair dude says it’s likely a three-way valve that has cracked. I couldn’t figure out how to take the machine apart, or I might have been able to fix it myself. Well, a $60 fix versus a new $300 machine is worth it. I’ve had it for six years, so that’s not a bad track record. Anyway, a road trip to Vancouver was nice.

Today’s road trip will be to Lowes to pick up some bathroom floor tiles we ordered. Whee!

So, Frenchie got here this morning! She’s very shy around people but really perked up when one of the shelter workers brought in an 8-week-old kitten, which hissed at her. They brought in another kitten, which played a little nicer. She also sniffed around the shirt that Phoenix has slept on the last few days. She let me pet her a lot and actually reached toward me when I petted her head and chin and lifted up her butt for a skritch. Bonnie, her foster mom, said she hadn’t seen her warm up to anyone else like that. She’s now in a bedroom with all of her supplies and has peed in her litterbox! She’s hiding in a corner under a dresser and it took me a while to spot her.

She came here with a couple of her own toys, so I threw them on the floor for Phoenix, who sniffed them thoroughly and then played with them for a couple of minutes. I took them upstairs to Frenchie a few minutes ago and just heard a couple of cat thumps, so maybe she’s playing with them herself.

And this is funny - I was entitled to a senior discount and had to sign a paper which said in BIG letters at the top, “Pets for the Elderly.” I was highly amused. Apparently that’s the name of the program that underwrites the discount.

There’s another cat thump!

Alive still. Slept late and already ready for a nap. Hubs says he doesn’t know how I sleep so much. I do love me some sleep.

I don’t think I have ever seen Gatorade on a restaurant menu either.

Any Mumpers on the east coast of Florida? I hope the eye stays far enough offshore that it’s just a rain event. We are getting intermittent showers from the outer bands. No wind though.

Our county has had 1325 cases of the virus with nine deaths. Up from 109 on June 1st. Should have left that roadblock up. Guess we couldn’t keep it up forever. We are so lucky to still be employed. Since tourism is the only industry here, tons of people are out of a job and the ones still irking are taking risks.
Several businesses could not survive and have closed permanently. Hubs business is booming as it’s hot. People gotta have air conditioning.

I don’t know yet what shall be dinner. I have both chicken and ground beef thawed. At some point this weekend I need to go to the store. I just scrambled the last two eggs for Buddy. I mixed them with kibble and he ate it all. Spoiled.

Yay for new kitty OW.

We’re back. We only visited one store - walking around is still tough on FCD. But we may have found what we want! There was a modular sectional that included 2 recliners (both ends.) In the picture, remove the console section from the left side and the section between the corner and the end from the right side - that’s what we want, and the upholstery we saw was a deep blue-gray fabric. It will fit nicely in the selected corner. The other piece was a leather recliner. I hate leather furniture, but FCD really liked it, so it’ll be his seat. We’ll look more, but we’ve set our baseline.

No luck with tables, tho. We didn’t see anything that we even slightly liked. But I think tables are easier to buy on line since you don’t need to butt-test them!

Under normal circumstances, we’d have stopped for lunch, but these being abnormal times, we came home for lunch - he had grilled ham-n-cheese with potato salad and I made myself a big salad and a couple of deviled eggs. Happy tummies all around.

Now, well, no plans. Chillage, I guess.

Evenin’ all. Had a zoo meeting, and went up to the fruit 'n veg shop for, well, some fruit 'n veg. Got some very nice strawberries.

That’s about the limit of today’s excitement.

I smiled. My mortgage story involved some ‘it takes a village’ too. My about to be ex-husband co-signed mine with me because except for that little divorce thing he is a good guy and we share parenting three of the greatest now adult kids and I didn’t have a strong enough recent earning history because I’d been at-home momming said exceptional kids for 20 years. We got a lot of strange looks but it worked. When I could, I remortgaged it and we both get to feel like good folks. Sounds like you all are being creative, trusting and clever.

Dang! Ain’t that right! Spidey sense, like bolting up off the couch when you hear a cat hacking up a big juicy hair ball two rooms away. Much better interrupting reading that enthralling library book now than stepping in the cold, slimy mess on your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night hours from now.

Not unlike when you there are awake kids in the house and it’s tooo quiet. That usually involves self-hacked off bangs or bright red lipstick on a two-year olds face (or on brand new towels that you searched for 6 months for just the perfect color). I never believed that saying about mothers having eyes in the back of their heads until I had eyes (and ears) in the back of my head. Now 35 years later I can’t turn it off even though all but one kid o’ mine has stopped messing with bright red lipstick.

Sounds deee-lishous! Nothing like friend time. Enjoy.

My latest :cat: came from his feral rescue group with the name of Cricket. Not that bad but he was a handsome dignified boy kitty and so he became Salvador (after the artist with the melting clocks) because he was so loving he melted in your arms. That of course became ‘Sal’ in no short order but I haul ‘Salvador!’ back out if he starts using his superior size in play-fighting with his sisters.

My plan exactly. Let us know how it goes. May the force be with you🖖🏻.

When they persist, I sigh heavily and pointedly get up and move to the next empty table, trying to have my back to them. I’ve been known to wear earbuds with no sound too. Don’t people know that reading is a sacrament? :books::open_book:

Heh, I was up and had my first mug of coffee in my hand by 11:30am. That qualifies as ‘good morning’ in my forced retirement and sequestering. Going to get to babysit my 3yo granddaughter starting about 4p, which qualifies as a special occasion for the both of us. Harriet and I get into some great cahoots and giggles.

Good Saturday all.

Boo

I figure if you’re not stressed these days, you’re just not paying attention. I had two major panic attacks myself last week. When I’m in the throes of one nothing helps-- walking, meditation apps, distracting myself, talking to my therapist-- I’m trapped in a vortex of terror. I can’t even eat, because a massively upset stomach is one of the hallmarks. A quarter-mg of xanax is the only thing that makes me feel better. Takes an hour to kick in. I don’t drink anymore, as my liver can’t take it and the rest of me can’t afford the calories. I wish I could have back all the alcoholic calories I consumed in the early 80s.

Take care, honey. :hugs:

It’s the plunger sound, amirite?

I have often said that it’s better stepping in cat vomit or a hairball in bare feet than it is in sock feet. 'Cause with bare feet, you can just stick your foot under the tub faucet and hose off. But with sock feet — ewww! — you have to peel off the offending garment and deal with it, PLUS hose off your foot anyway.

My allergies kicked my butt this morning, but I managed to get all the cleaning and erranding done. I tried the pick-up service at the World of Wally for the first time. I may never go inside the store again. They were able to find the wax burner lightbulbs I can NEVER FIND. Are they in the lightbulb section? No. Are they with the wax burner supplies? No. Are they in some sort of hidden vortex only Wallyworld employees can enter? Yes!

The kittens were wound up this morning. Connor kept trying to “help” me fold clothes while Murphy tried to chew on a plastic bag. This is why there’s a big bottle of Kitty Correction Fluid in every room.

Was going to take a walk but it’s entirely too hot outside. I’ll veg instead. Wait, I still have to do today’s educational short. {headdesk} Okay, one more thing left on the to-do list, then I’ll veg.

Our guy was misnamed Pat and the Humane Society. We figured out that his proper name just had to be Ralphie. He is very helpful around the house though…
